Especially once i read this shit from the author of the story….“but Bosh’s corollary should probably be Dennis Rodman who is better at rebounding and defense than Bosh, just as much as Bosh is a better offensive player.”

Does anybody not know that Rodman could score IF he wanted to? fuckin critics out there…..read Rodmans book.

But to call him Bosh’s equal on offense is simply not true.

What should be mentioned is that Rodman was better at what he did well than what Bosh does well.

Rodman’s rebounding and defense were GREAT. He was a major factor in two teams being champions. Back to back with Detroit and 3-Peating with the Bulls. Bosh might never do anything as well as Rodman did in rebounding and defending.

Well, I certainly agree with that

Rodman is one of the best rebounders and defenders of all time and makes Bosh look utterly pathetic in his wake. He certainly was never an offense force though and Bosh certainly is.

who the hell compared bosh to rodman......

he might not have put up the offensive numbers bosh has (even though he could have if needed to), comparing there defensive and rebounding abilities is pretty much the equivelant of kicking rodman in the balls. He is a much better def/rebonder than bosh. not even close. en dof story.

Which dumbass writer from yahoo came up with that comparison?

Dennis Rodman is THE BEST rebounder and defender of all time. (wel maybe not defender, but rebounder for sure........)

Considering he was totally undersized compared to other bigmen at only 6’7", he was an unbelievable rebounder. And going with the fact that he guarded other teams PF and sometimes even C, he was a great defender giving up all the size he did. He was only 220 pounds.

Name me one person, at Rodman’s size, who could average 13.1 rebounds over their whole career. At the height of his career (Detroit, San Antonio and Chicago) he averaged 18.7, 18.3, 17.3, 16.8, 14.9, 16.1 & 15.0 rebounds per game. Ungodly numbers that only a few people have ever matched at his size.

He is 10th on the NBA rebounds per game leaderboard, but everyone else above him played in the 60’s and 70’s (when players werent as tall and people like wilt & beylor owned the boards). He competed for those rebounds with guys who were 5 or 6 inches taller than him.

Also taking into account that he was a very raw player coming into the league and only averaged 4.3, 8.7, 9.4 & 9.7 rebounds per game in his first 4 years. His averge would be much highers if he had come into the league a little more polished. He averaged over 11 rpg every season after his first 4, including his last 2 (when he was 37 & 38 years old).

This is all my opinion and probably biased as he is one of my favorite players of all time, but he is one of the best, if not THE BEST pound for pound and inch for inch rebounder of all time. Why do you think the Bulls never needed a above average big man??? because they had Rodman.

Pound-for-pound, Rodman is arguably the best rebounder

I’d incline towards saying Russell or Chamberlain were better, but it’s hard to say given how different the game was (especially the hyper-fast pace) back then.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Aug 19, 2010 10:55 AM PDT up reply actions

Russell and Chamberlain were athletic freaks of nature, playing in a League where positions were far more set and the pace was higher.

I’d be willing to wager if you pace-adjusted the rebounding numbers, Rodman would be at least on-par with Russel and Chamberlain. I’d also be interested to see how the rebounding percentages by position were distributed in that time.

And Rodman has to earn extra respect not only for his comparative lack of size, but for the fact he was probably at best an average NBA athlete, whilst Russel was reportedly good enough to be an Olympian high-jumper and Wilt’s athletic dominance was simply awe-inspiring.

    And there you go

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/trb_pct_career.html

Rodman crushes any modern player by a mile in this category. The statistics to make a comparison to Chamberlain and Russell are unfortunately not available since they didn’t track certain stuff back then.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Aug 19, 2010 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions

I think that Russell and Chamberlain had advantages that Rodman did not......

if you think about the pace of the game back then and also consider than they both were monsters compared to anyone else on the court. Most players back then were not tall. Rodman had to rebound over guys who were much taller and bigger than he was.

Oh My God.....Rodman didnt use his offense because he didnt need to

He got draftet by the Pistons after AVg. 25 points a game in college. And was drafted for his D-fense and rebounding since the Pistons didnt need another scorer with Thomas and Dumars etc.
Then he went to the Spurs and wasnt needed as a scorer and then to the Bulls…..not as a scorer….he said it best though…..

    That's nonsense

Rodman had a very limited offensive game and it showed throughout his career, which is why we consider his rebounding and defense in such a positive light due to the other limitations in his game.

And averaging 25 ppg on a Division II team is nothing special. Any NBA player worth their salt looks good against that level of competition.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Aug 19, 2010 10:33 AM PDT up reply actions

    Here we go agian....

His shooting percentage was what? above .520 for his career….so if he did shoot more he would have had more PPG in the NBA, but he didnt have to cause he wasnt scoring option #1, or #2, or even #3 on any team he was on.

Bosh will fall into Rodman’s bracket since Lebron and Wade will take up all the shots on that team….so effectivly Bosh will suck even worse since his shooting percentage is below .500 for his career.

I don't do it for your thanks, I do it because I had a calling, but I do love the support you give me and my Soldiers.

by Sarge Clemins on Aug 19, 2010 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions

It's easy to have a high FG% when you're rarely called upon

To do more on offense than get put-backs and an open dunk or two, which was essentially what Rodman’s offensive game was. What “scoring option” he was is entirely irrelevant — he simply wasn’t a good offensive player.

As for Bosh, his overall career FG% is lower simply because of the fact that he was the primary offensive option, and it’s a testament to his offensive game (jumpers from the high post, drives, etc.) that he managed to stay fairly efficient (career 57.1 TS%) while essentially carrying Toronto since he came into the league. If anything, his efficiency will improve in Miami now that he doesn’t have to shoulder most of the offensive load and will get a lot of offensive opportunities off Wade and LeBron. Stick Rodman in Bosh’s position in Toronto in which he had to create most of the offense and I assure you his statistics would be much, much worse.

by Sarge Clemins on Aug 19, 2010 10:54 AM PDT up reply actions

im with you on this one sarge.

if he was needed to be an offensive option on any of the teams he was on, i believe he could have been. but he wasnt. he probably wasnt even the 5th or 6th option on many of the teams he was on. he developed into a defensive and rebounding specialist because that is what his teams needed him to do. he wasnt needed to score. anyone who can put up 25 ppg in college, regardless of what division it was, can score. maybe not 25 ppg in the nba, but it would have been much higher than his career ppg average.

i dont know how many times i saw him get an offensive rebound around the rim, and because he was 5 or 6 inches shorter than all the bigs he was around, would pass it back out to the perimeter to Scottie or Jordan. He didnt have the greatest jump shot but was accurate from close range, as his career fg% will show you. Bosh does have a more polished post game and jumper, but Rodman was never required to polish his after college. Teams wanted him to reboudn and play tough defense. Its obvious that Bosh is better on offense by their numbers, but I believe Rodmans numnbers on offense coudl have been much better if he was on a team that needed him to score.

I still cant believe a yahoo writer compared the two. baffles me…….

25 ppg in Division II is nothing

The difference in competition between that and top-tier Division I schools is massive. Stick Bosh from Georgia Tech into a Division II school and he’d look like he was reliving his high school days destroying people. I really don’t see why this is a discussion — Bosh is arguably one of the best offensive big men in the league and Rodman was never more than a cleanup guy around the rim. There’s no comparison whatsoever to be made here.

    Generally I hate BDL.

But I don’t see any way in which Rodman could be rated as a better scorer than Bosh.

What’s more important, however, is that in a supporting role of the type that Rodman was relegated to with the Bulls, and Bosh will be with Miami, Rodman’s all-time-great rebounding and defense as FAR more important than Bosh’s simply above-average scoring and rebounding ability.

This was following a previous fight with C.A. in which he was banned, then let back under "probation."

He violated the terms of that probation with the Dex fight.

We all kept telling him to calm down, it wasn't that serious, but he challenged Dex one time too many

and BAM. It was actually my fault, but he took it too far.

well i just started posting cause i was banned..

For thinking a reversable Louie Vatton/Gucci belt was cool. Dex and C.A. said it wasnt..i pleaded it was. One thing lead to another..they said somethings i didnt like..so to get them back i claimed Luke Waltons contract wasnt a financial Albotross..then Bam!!!!!!! I was banned. I cant stand those guys!!!!

Well, you should have been banned for misspelling Vuitton, which is clearly the better side of that belt.

I’d be more careful if I were you.
