My preseason schedule analysis is up, and it mentions L.A. more than once. I don't usually start threads on other teams' forums, but I thought some people around here might be interested, since the Lakers get several mentions, and I look a little further than stupid things like "15 back to backs, the league is protecting Kobe!!!!!"

That is so damn lame.

Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.

LOL

Or is that L@L?

I’m not sure which is more immature, someone having fun with something or someone else getting all sensitive about it. You decide.

I spell it “Lakers” when I come here (rarely) because you guys apparently can’t handle a little honest good-natured fan hatred of your team.

We have players who play defense now, look out!

the thing is

it’s not just a “fun” thing over at blazer’s edge. You get absolutely torn apart by the community if you don’t censor the word “Lakers”.

So yeah it’s not the word but where the word is derived from: mindless, pathetic, reverse-fanboism.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Not true

In fact, there are regulars over there who criticize it as much as you guys do. And some guys never spell it with @ or *, and nobody bugs them.

Doesn’t matter, though.

Don't know why you would want us to read an article if you're just planning on clowning on our team.

What if we went over to Blazers Edge and pointed them to an article over here where we made fun of all their fails? You like?

Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.

by LakerUNLTD on Aug 14, 2010 1:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Did you read it?

The “clowning on your team” is a microscopic part of the article. Man, you guys are sensitive.

Why did I link to it? Because you guys have had to read a bunch of stupid stuff about only 15 back to backs, etc. I thought you might find some of the information in there useful. Like:

That actually changes things quite a bit, doesn’t it? At face value, it looked like the schedulers had handed L.A. and Phoenix a cakewalk. But when you realize that everyone else had quite a few of their back to backs in which their opponent was also on a back to back, suddenly it gives a different picture. The team with the easiest schedule of back to backs is actually OKC, with N.O. close behind. And Houston, Portland, and Denver have the worst schedules in this category, but not with as much disparity as it first appeared.

Or:
This is the second year that L.A. had the fewest number of opponent back to backs. Last year, it was 9, this year 10.

Or:
Who has the worst schedule in terms of back to backs? Amazingly, despite the fact that they have fewer back to backs than anyone, it is L.A. They aren’t hurt much by back to backs, but they get almost no help from the schedulers in terms of tired opponents.

But if you can’t handle a few @s scattered here and there, you can’t.

Take care anyway.

by jscot on Aug 14, 2010 2:14 AM PDT up reply actions

i started reading it too but stopped when saw lakers spelled with @

if you invite a “rival” fanbase there should be some professionalism in your writing, so we take it a little seriously… if it was a story just to mock Lakers then i would understand, but when you are analyzing and then inviting some other bloggers then the story is different

by rballer on Aug 14, 2010 2:32 AM PDT up reply actions

Oh, well

I wrote it for Blazersedge, not for you guys. Inviting you guys was an afterthought because I thought you were getting the short end of the stick on some of the stuff being written. Probably shouldn’t have bothered….

If I had it to do over again, I’d warn you in advance.

There’s a lot of humor mixed in that post, as in all of mine. I tend to combine humor with analysis. If that isn’t professional, so be it.

We have players who play defense now, look out!

by jscot on Aug 14, 2010 10:59 AM PDT up reply actions

I think he was just referring

to the Lakers thing. Meaning unprofessional to not spell it correctly in an analysis, not that humor can’t be included.

If I had it to do over again, I’d warn you in advance.

Warn us of what? That you intended to use the @ symbol?

Like I said, my comment wasn’t about your post. I am sure it is wonderful and full of Laker fairness. That’s not the point. The point is that sometimes the message gets lost on the messenger. This is one of those times. The @ symbol may be funny to Blazer fans, but to us it is the internet equivalent of “LAKERZ SUCK”….etc.

If you want to be taken seriously around here, be the bigger man and type LAKERS like a grown up. Maybe you will take a little shit at BE, but it may be worth it. You would NEVER see a writer here use a term like JailBlazers, or Thuggets, and to us the @ symbol is equal to both.

That is the point.

It's a SS&R policy

that our users refrain from calling other teams’ bad names. We could easily call the Celtics the common derogatory name most Laker fans like to use, but we don’t here. Why? Because it is disrespectful. And if anyone does, we call them out on it.

If you want us to respect and read your “analysis” then please extend the same courtesy to us. Even if your schedule analysis is thought provoking and well-written, you can’t expect Lakers fans to take it in good humor that you used L@kers. It’s not only highly distracting, but it just shows you don’t care how other fans feel when they read it. And then you call them sensitive.

There is a huge reason why it’s banned here in SS&R. Because the mods like to make all fans feel comfortable if they should ever visit here. They would think us highly immature and disrespectful of their team if we used those names. All we ask, is that you extend us the same courtesy.

Now if this was good ribbing fun and everyone was just talking smack, then fine. But you’re passing your analysis off as something we would find interesting to read. I think by now, it’s safe to say, most Lakers fans are tired of seeing L@kers, L*kers, or Fakers, etc. It’s unnecessary and we already get it. Mostly everyone hates us, but hey, we might have dropped down to second or third most hated thanks to the Heat.

Several points

1. Different strokes for different folks. We have a no swearing policy as a means of showing respect. You don’t.
2. As I said above, linking to it here was an afterthought. I didn’t write it for you — if I had, I would have posted it here.
3. If you call my team Bl@zers on your blog, I’m going to laugh about it. But I guess every fanbase has things they don’t like.
4. I know it is your policy. I have respected it the few times I’ve posted here, and will continue to do so, if I ever come back….

We have players who play defense now, look out!

by jscot on Aug 14, 2010 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions

you have to understand where we're coming from though

We as Laker fans get what we believe to be a lot of undeserved hate from nearly every team out there, especially on SBN. It gets a little tiresome trying to distinguish between well-deserved/thought-out hatred, bandwagon/non-sensical hatred, and straight up jokes.

Now do I stop reading an article when I read L@kers? No, of course not especially if it’s a well written article. It does, however, irk me a little bit if for no other reason because it’s the kind of stuff that perpetuates stereotypes about my team.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Sure, I understand

So now I’ll ask a question. Since I didn’t write it for you guys, and I wrote it for people who enjoy a joke at the Lakers’ expense, and so I included it, do you not want to read it anyway? I’m going to ask that question below.

But please do keep contributing in fanposts, fanshots, and comments

while we don’t appreciate the name-thing, we really do like it when opposing team’s fans give us their take on our team, the nba, their team, etc.

Timbo, WaveOcean, are all long-time SS&R readers and commenters and they’re definitely not fans of the Lakers. Though we hope eventually they will be :)

Rivals?

I used “rivals” in that post of every team which might contend for a playoff spot. It was used generically.

although I don’t know why it was fair and yet somehow Lakers could never be spelled correctly. Either way, it details a break down of Western conference schedules very well.

Should I delete this fanshot?

You decide. It’s your site.

Laker fan statement #1.

I don’t want to read analysis which uses “L@kers”. It’s annoying, and I’m not interested in what you said if you do that. If you did that in your analysis, don’t link it here. Please delete this fanshot.

Laker fan statement #2.

I dislike the fact that you used “L@kers”, it’s annoying and detracts from your analysis, but I still am glad you linked it. You provided useful information. Please do not delete the fanshot.

Simple, really. Choose statement #1 or #2. If enough people want it to stay, I’ll leave the link up, if they don’t, I’ll delete the whole fanshot.

It’s your site, you decide.

We have players who play defense now, look out!

by jscot on Aug 16, 2010 1:12 AM PDT reply actions

You can leave it up

I gots no probs with the analysis. Just understand that around the internet L@kers is just a sign of disrespect towards the organization and the players, and Fakers is a shot at the legitimacy of the history of the team and the supposedly fake fans that support it. I’m sure you wouldn’t mind if I posted a fanshot over on BE and included the various disrespectful names for the Blazers, but could you say the same for everyone else on BE. I’m not so sure you could say that.

There have been other incidents with people who post things here just to get a rise out of Laker fans at their “analysis” when they only posted it just to show us that they think we are (insert some adjective that questions one’s intelligence). So yes, in the future we would ask that you either 1. Warn in the caption that you had some fun at our expense or 2. Don’t include those names in the writings if you intend to link them here. Or at least, thats what I think. The moderators could always have their own line of thinking or reasoning, but since this hasn’t been deleted I’m going to say they don’t have a big problem with it.

Its perfectly fine though man, love to have you come around for Blazers games and participate in the game threads. Even come by and post some more of your analysis, since this was a pretty good read.

These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fucked up the end game. - Charlie Wilson

So no one wants it deleted?

We have players who play defense now, look out!

by jscot on Aug 17, 2010 5:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Obviously not

Which means all the griping about @ was sound and fury, signifying nothing. Since no one wants it taken down, it demonstrates that SS&R people recognize it still has value. You’d rather it not use the @, and if I were writing for your site, I would respect that. Since I wrote it for Blazersedge, and within Blazersedge standards, and to entertain as well as enlighten Bedgers, I’m not too bothered by that.

I won’t link my regular updates through the season, though, unless there is something really notable (as there was in this) related to the Lakers.

Thanks all for the interesting discussion, if somewhat off-topic. I do understand where you are coming from a little bit more, and that’s always valuable.
