What the hell are the Knicks thinking hiring Isiah in any way?

He seems to have the talent to scout players but as far as him making executive decisions or giving advice to executives that is just ridiculous.

"That means no more coming into camp fat and out of shape, when your team is relying on your leadership on and off the court. I think thats all he'll be there for

But I don’t think the NCAA or the NBA allow it to happen since he has pretty strong ties to a college program since he is the freaking coach of a D1 team. Sometimes the Knicks management just makes me wonder.

They are but they should still be okay next year

Billups is the only one getting up there in terms of age and his game is still fairly consistent. Karl coming back should prevent them from imploding as they did last year when he was on the mend and Dantley was coaching. I think their biggest problem won’t necessarily be their mental makeup but injuries - they have a lot of injury-prone players on that roster (Melo, Martin, Nene, etc.) and Harrington doesn’t solve their frontcourt depth issues (although not for lack of trying). They also somehow thought not bringing Warkentein back would be a good thing when he more or less got them into contention in ’08’09, and that probably will hurt them down the road.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

good points

I think if Melo doesn’t sign his extension, it’ll hurt the team too. It’s possible for them to slide out of the play-offs this year.

by wickedskillz on Aug 10, 2010 4:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not sure it will hurt the team necessarily

If he’s not signing the extension, he’s playing for his new contract, and the last thing he wants to do is give the impression he’s not a max-worthy player. As for the playoffs, there’s too much talent on that roster to not make the playoffs. I doubt they’ll be very successful once they get there, but they’ll definitely make it.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Aug 10, 2010 5:01 PM PDT up reply actions

He really doesn't have to prove much to be a max player

I mean seriously, did you see Gay and JJ? I remember seeing an ESPN Article about this very topic and not buying it. They made a good point about him having low efficiency rankings, but imo, in the current NBA he’s def worth it. If nothing, you know he’s gonna sell tickets and jerseys.
But yeah, say he does try to push for a max, it would probably be with him taking more shots and stat stuffing than anything. This is usually the trend! The Nuggets already have character issues and a somewhat volatile chemistry (eg end of last year). The other guys might see as Melo bailing on em and create more bad blood.
About the last point, you’re right. What I said was too dramatic. They make the playoffs bar injury problems and chemistry issues.

However, their roster pales in comparison to the one the Heat now has. Pretty much every roster in the NBA comes up short to ours, and that is before guys like Mario Chalmers and Joel Anthony benefit off of the talent on the players around them

the heat has the best roster even before you add Mario Chalmers and Joel Anthony? now he’s just being modest.

If we're grading on potential energy, sure.

I’m going to say the kinetic energy of teams like the Lakers still greatly surpasses their potential.

Mathematical proof that their kinetic energy cannot be as great as their potential energy. Kinetic energy equals potential energy minus energy lost to friction (and we expect lots of friction) minus Heat out.

There you have it.

Kupchak wasn't kidding about Blake's athleticism numbers in the draft
Speed:
Raw speed is hand-timed by Schaefer, as the players sprint as fast as possible from the baseline to the opposite free throw line.

Blake’s Score: 3.25, tied for first out of 11.

Schaefer: "Steve’s 3.25 is excellent, once again. Rarely do you get under 3.3 for that test."

Four-Corner Agility Test:
The Lakers set up cones at the four corners of the lane, and instruct players to sprint from the baseline corner to the free throw line, slide laterally to their left, backpedal to the baseline, slide laterally to their right, touch the cone and then reverse it back around. The test is designed to reveal how quickly a player can change direction with economical body movement.

Blake’s Score: 10.47, first out of 11. Only two other players (Ross being one of them) finished under 11 seconds. Being the quickest is more impressive when you’re also the fastest, two things that don’t always go hand-in-hand.

Schaefer: "Anything under 11 seconds is good, anything under 10.5 is really good, and Steve ran the best of all positions that year with a 10.47, which is really superb."

http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/100809steveblakesmeasurables.html

To put this in perspective, here are some other numbers:

John Wall: 3.14 (3/4 court sprint), 10.84 (lane agility drill)
Rodrigue Beaubois: 3.15 (3/4 court sprint), 10.49 (lane agility drill)
Jonny Flynn: 3.23 (3/4 court sprint), 10.86 (lane agility drill)
Jrue Holiday: 3.21 (3/4 court sprint), 10.64 (lane agility drill)
Ty Lawson: 3.12 (3/4 court sprint), 10.98 (lane agility drill)
Toney Douglas: 3.03 (3/4 court sprint), 10.63 (lane agility drill)
Darren Collison: 3.10 (3/4 court sprint), 10.45 (lane agility drill)
Derrick Rose: 3.05 (3/4 court sprint), 11.69 (lane agility drill)
Russell Westbrook: 3.08 (3/4 court sprint), 10.98 (lane agility drill)
Jeff Teague: 3.18 (3/4 court sprint), 11.05 (lane agility drill)

So Blake matches up pretty favorably with a lot of guards considered very athletic, especially in terms of lateral quickness. Granted, this is a much older Blake, although he’s not that old right now and should still have a lot of that quickness he demonstrated in the draft.

This also reminds me of why we should have kept Toney Douglas. 3.03 on the 3/4 sprint? Faster than Rose, Wall, Westbrook, and Collison? What a waste.

No problem wit it

its a risk every time they’re on the floor and its a risk even when they’re just working out and for players like Ron its a risk when they’re near stairs. I don’t get how he expects to integrate foreign teams into the NBA though, considering the amount of travel that team would have to do. I get having foreign venues, but I don’t see him getting enough players to form enough teams in enough countries to make this a viable plan from all the way over here in the US, especially since they already have European leagues. Just seems like it would be nothing but making FIBA and the olympics into an everyday entity instead of one that comes every 4 years.

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be committed against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the Limelight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

what is Van Gundy's problem?

Thats why he’s no longer a coach because when you start thinking like that, your already at a disadvantage. The Heat are definitely guardable, all you have to do is take advantage of their weak links and they have alot, they will be good but 72 wins or anything Van Gundy is predicting is not foreseeable to me.

By the way Lakers schedule looks great besides the 15 back to backs, I’m ready to get the season started
