So last year, SS&R got it's own league on PASPN.net which runs a fantasy GM league, where you become the GM of the team and worry about all that stuff like payroll. The league is a keeper and it's in its second year now and the offseason portion is really the best part cause of all the trades and free agents that you can attempt to sign. You can be either a GM and run a team, or be an Agent, and represent players and decide which contracts they accept and so on. 

The League needs some more GM's so sign up and work that charm of yours to trade yourself a champion!
