It’s actually disgusting the way ESPN has bowed to LeBron. They gave the lamest, most transparent, untruthful excuse ever.

This will only encourage writers to pile on Lebron.

They have been already, and he continues to make it worse. It’s going to be interesting to see how LeBron deals with animosity and “adversity”. He’s never had to.

I think Shoals was spot on.

There’s nothing wrong with what happened as far as the night itself, but considering the roasting LBJ is going through, it was poor judgement to put James and crew in that situation to be covered and written about like that. Not now. He needs to lay low. Stay out of the limelight. Even worse thinking by ESPN to pull the story.

Right. If a reporter happens to be in the vicinity and reports what he saw, so be it.

But don’t have him at your table in the VIP section within earshot of your sotto voce conversation. Seriously poor judgment.

And ESPN is just spinning around the toilet bowl faster every day.

I've heard Simmons get on LBJ.

So, I’ll credit him for that. Not as much as Kobe (then again he is a Celtics fans), but he does. Will he? Doubt it. ESPN seems to be taken a hard stance, or else the “editied” version would have been released by now.

Abbott? He’s a huge LeBron apologist. I doubt he would if he could.

They basically want a first rounder

And don’t want to take on salary past that. The problem is that Fernandez’s salary is so small as to make such trades difficult unless the team is under the cap. This makes Chicago a logical landing location, although all they’ve offered is James Johnson so far.

Arash Markazi’s ESPN.com story on LeBron James will not be posted again. Here are comments from Markazi & ESPN.com’s Rob King. King: "ESPN.com will not be posting the story in any form. We looked into the situation thoroughly and found that Arash did not properly identify himself as a reporter or clearly state his intentions to write a story. As a result, we are not comfortable with the content, even in an edited version, because of the manner in which the story was reported. We’ve been discussing the situation with Arash and he completely understands. To be clear, the decisions to pull the prematurely published story and then not to run it were made completely by ESPN editorial staff without influence from any outside party." Markazi: "I have been in conversations with ESPN.com’s editors and, upon their complete review, understand their decision not to run the story. It is important to note that I stand by the accuracy of the story in its entirety, but should have been clearer in representing my intent to write about the events I observed."

ESPN is contradicting itself again. They say the pulled the story on their own without outside influence.
Markazi: “I have been in conversations with ESPN.com’s editors and, upon their complete review, understand their decision not to run the story. It is important to note that I stand by the accuracy of the story in its entirety, but should have been clearer in representing my intent to write about the events I observed.”

But if they weren’t influenced, why would Markazi have to be clearer about his intent? Sounds like they knew who he was (if Maverick Carter didn’t, he’s a bigger a fool than we thought; you gots ta get outta yo mama’s basement!), but didn’t expect him to write about the evening. I mean who wouldn’t just want to hang out with The King, just for giggles? When he did write about it, they didn’t like it, got pissed and made a call.

BTW, I like that he understands their decision but doesn’t say he agrees with it. Clever!

Paul is caught in the mystique

Which is sad because he’s hyper-competitive/driven/intense on the court (cue him punching Julius Hodge in the nuts) as versus LeBron’s lackadasical nature. And I’m not sure Paul would know who he was either; only person that night who might have picked him out is Odom because Markazi is an ESPNLA writer.

lolz bullshit

arash markazi didn’t identify himself as a reporter? in the article markazi details LBJ’s security, which would make it impossible for some guy to hang out with LBJ’s inner-circle. everyone knew he was a reporter, sure they might have been fucking idiots thinking a reporter hanging out wasn’t going to report on anything. what exactly would they edit out? everything that makes LBJ look bad?
so espn’s story is this:

They commission a reporter to report on LeBron James, the personal side and not the basketball side. He hangs out with LeBron James, writes his story, publishes it. 15 minutes later the article is pulled, because it was accidentally published. Today, espn says they will never publish the article because markazi didn’t identify himself. but how would they know? is LRMR espn’s PR company, because this seems like another PR disaster.

I've been MIA for a while but wanted to check in and say hi

This has been quite an interesting offseason so far for the Lakers. Not too many teams win back to back then have so many roster moves.

I am definitely happy with the additions of Blake and Barnes. I feel like Blake is going to be a massive upgrade over Fish and Farmar. What I like about Blake is that he will be able to eat up the bulk of the minutes but still allow Fish to hit hte big shots in the clutch, I don’t see Blake having a monster ego. Plus, I like Blake as a player, he’s smart and won’t try to do too much, I think of Blake as a younger, quicker Fish.

Barned on the other hand adds more toughness and is a nice addition to the D. Barnes along with Ron Ron should drive other teams mad. Barnes was always one of those players that you hated to play against but always kind of wanted him on your team.

As for Ebanks and Caracter, I briefly saw them during the summer league. I’m sure everyone’s heard the Ebanks Ariza comparisons and it’s well deserved. I definitely think Ebanks has more upside than Caracter. I’m hoping both make the team. One very small downside to always being good is never getting exciting draft picks. I think Mitch did a great job with what we had.

Lastly, I would like to see the Lakers keep Sasha over Brown. Sasha along with Luke are two players that don’t really do too much on the court but are fun to have off of it. They both seem like nice guys and I always am rooting for them. I think if Sasha can get back to his 2008 form, he could add another important piece to this team. If not, he becomes an excellent practice player.

Anyways, ho[e everyone is doing good. Can’t wait until October, ring night is just around the corner.

Ken Berger's reporting the knicks extended a contract offer to shannon brown

anyone wonder why it is taking so long for shannon brown’s deal to get done? i think the standard interpretation is that he’s going back and forth and fielding offers and such. Another interpretation I have is that it takes 30 days for a team to be able to trade a signed draft pick.

i’m thinking maybe there is a deal in place already, and kupchak and shannon are just waiting for the 30 day period to expire.

i think the lakers are trying to unload sasha first?

so that they could feel comfortable signing brown to a bigger contract?

by theshmoes on Jul 29, 2010 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions

maybe this is just something brown's agent leaked to generate interest

with delonte west’s non-guaranteed deal unavailable, the prospect of trading vujacic now is close to non-existent, i think. the next opportunity is just before the trade deadline, where the lakers will have already paid most of sasha’s salary.

so, now teams know the lakers are willing to part with a #1, and that it doesn’t seem likely for them to keep both brown and vujacic. so, they’ll ask the lakers for Brown and that #1 for a low-salaried prospect, i think.

Vujacic and a #1 isn’t very enticing. Brown and a #1? Much more enticing. This gives both Brown and their partner Kupchak more options.

How about Brown and a #1 for Nick Young? or Omri Casspi? or Courtney Lee? or Wayne Ellington? or Toney Douglas?

"I've hacked into your brain. You're throwing a party and no one's showing up."

by ignign*kt on Jul 29, 2010 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions

A lot of those situations aren't very appealing

Young is a single-minded gunner who can’t do anything else on the court. Casspi solely plays at a position where we have a ton of players at and Sacramento isn’t trading him anytime soon. Lee is offensively mediocre and somewhat overrated defensively, besides the fact that New Jersey has no reason to trade him for Brown. Ellington can shoot but wasn’t doing anything else out there. Douglas would be a solid choice but New York is fairly high on him and would likely much rather have him over Brown.

on 2nd thought, i think we should unload sasha. he only had a decent year in 2008, his contract year. he sucked before and after.

From 20 Second Timeout link:
Brown opted out of his contract because he thought that there would be a market for his services but he has discovered that the truth is what I have been saying all along: he logged so many minutes for the Lakers the past two years mainly because, contrary to popular belief, the Lakers simply lacked quality depth. Sixth man Lamar Odom was a quasi-starter during most of that time period because Bynum was either out of the lineup or else limited by injuries, so Brown was the Lakers’ de facto best bench player—but the total lack of interest around the league now for his services shows that NBA executives realize that he is nothing more than a solid NBA player. If the Lakers were truly as deep as so many journalists suggested then wouldn’t teams be salivating over the opportunity to acquire the Lakers’ de facto sixth man?

At least to me, “solid NBA player” is something quite beyond where Brown is right now. Guys who get full MLE deals (or rather, are worth that money) are “solid NBA players.”

Is that he really needs to give his articles a quick re-read before publishing them. I catch spelling errors in nearly every one.

His writing is also full of comma-spliced run-on sentences,

which sends my OCD into hyper-drive. I would read FB&G regularly when he was still running it—used to love his work—and I don’t remember that being a problem before. It almost feels like he’s doing it intentionally as a stylistic choice (I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt), but a lot of the time it comes off as ignorance of the rules of grammar. I just wish he would either use a conjunction, forming a proper compound sentence, or change the comma to a period, making two sentences. Pardon me for venting.
