good work as usual on the links

read some chris paul articles… it really seems like he’s staying. i just don’t see him leaving NO like that, and ruining his reputation. like someone else we all know. i don’t know how much the hornets can improve though, but if chris paul is healthy, they have a fighting chance at an 7th or 8th seed.

i still find it surprising shaq doesn’t have team and july is almost over. mcgrady and iverson i get, and we all know shaq is small shell of his 2000 self, but he could still be useful. unless some of the rumors of him demanding 4-6 million and a starting role, then it’s more understandable.

btw, if anyone has been suffering from lack of basketball recently, i recommend watching some videos on this guy’s youtube channel. he has tons of classic games from the 80s and 90s on there, just finished watching this classic from 1987. the 1987 finals are also a great watch to see showtime at it’s greatest.

On comparing CP3's alleged trade demand to Lebron James' decision to leave the Cavs

I really dont know if they compare. There are huge differences between both scenarios. The biggest reason why Lebron has received so much grief is because he painted himself to be a god of not only Cleveland but the NBA. He self proclaimed so many things that he wasn’t ever able to deliver like saying that he wouldn’t leave the Cavs and that he promissed to bring them a title. Paul has never promised to be Charlotte’s savior.

Hollinger called the Lakers one of his off season losers.
Los Angeles Lakers

What, you ask, did the Lakers do wrong? Nothing — in fact, they shored up the point guard spot with Steve Blake and got a tough gamer for peanuts in Matt Barnes. And, of course, they coaxed Phil Jackson to stay on the bench for one more season.

All that would have made the Lakers overwhelming favorites to repeat as champions next season, except for a little thing that went down in Miami. With the Heat looking like a super team, the Lakers find themselves downgraded to co-favorites at best, through no fault of their own.

Had James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh aligned themselves in any other combination with any other team, that wouldn’t be the case. Thus, L.A. lost ground this summer, even though, in narrower terms, it won with the additions of Barnes and Blake.

He’s trolling for hits with that ridiculous logic, so forgive me if I don’t provide the link. It’s insider only anyway.

the entire nba except miami was a loser?

Well, every team that thought about winning a title next season

I don’t think Indiana gives a crap about this situation.

but his GOD plays for Miami

so, it’s understandable that Hollinger would choose Miami as the favorites. good thing he didn’t pick the lakers, dude’s never right.

LBJ says

that the heat aren’t going to win any championships, yet the regular season will be easy, like in Cleveland. these heat players have no confidence in themselves, how terrible. 2 of the top 10 PERs of all time on the same team, how could Hollinger lose?

PERs is a broken statistic

As are wins produced, etc, etc.

They show us part of the story, without a doubt, but until the advent of better stats (some of the crazy video analysis stuff) PERs to me is not what matters.

Thanks for posting about this. I have to admit, I had a good laugh at this.

With the Heat looking like a super team, the Lakers find themselves downgraded to co-favorites at best, through no fault of their own.

If that’s the case, then his winner’s list must only have Miami on it, right? OTL.

the hits don't hurt

But honestly, I just think Hollinger loves anything counter-intuitive. Nothing wrong with that—as a geek, I also enjoy seeming paradoxes—but it would be nice if it were also actually so.

well, let me ask you

How is it bad for the NBA? Because I can see quite some good coming out of this. As much as people hate both the Celtics and the Lakers, this season’s Finals was a big ratings winner. And so were the meetings between the teams in the 1980s. And there’s a chance that eventually—maybe not this coming season or the next (assuming the next season actually happens), but eventually—we’ll see some top-flight basketball out of Miami.

It might not work out that way, but I don’t see the position that superteams are good for the NBA as ludicrous on the face of it.

by Brian Tung on Jul 27, 2010 12:51 PM PDT up reply actions

i'm not against 'superteams' specifically

more against the ‘creating a superteam mentality’ that players would take. if there were like 5 superteams with all of the best players, where does that leave the 25 other fanbases with no hope whatsoever? Also, good players drafted would sign their rookie contracts with shitty teams and then depart in free agency, to greener pastures. small market teams that are based in non-tourist destinations would never have the chance to succeed.

do small, shitty teams generate money? or is it just the large market teams?

A agree with Brian Tung.

There has been no reason to believe super teams are bad. Historically, the NBA has thrived off of dynasties. As an NBA fan, I would prefer there to be a 4-5 that a lot people want to watch, and 2 teams everyone wants to watch, rather than 14-20 teams that some locals want to watch. The super teams raise the profiles for every team. It won;t just be Lakers games that every team sell out. Heat games as well. Now, there a great storyline for the NBA to capitalize on.

Johnson had plenty of help from teammates like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy during his playing career, and commended James’ decision to join the Heat with the goal of winning a championship alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

“You got to give him credit,” Johnson said Monday. “He wants to win a championship. When you put LeBron James with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, you put yourself in a position to do that.”

lol its not flopping to say He wouldnt have done what those 3 did, but at the same time acknowledging their “sacrifice” represents their desire to win…..

It’s just a more PC way of saying: Those guys are willing to sell out to win, winning matters to them most, even if they means they are taking the easy way out, and will never approach the legacies of Magic, MJ, Kobe, and even Tim Duncan, Karl Malone, and Reggie Miller.

None of those guys should even get into the top 30 of the NBA of all time
