Its been a long time since we have had a couple of these...

Hello my fellow ssr&r people, i log on everyday I love this blog, and
this is my first post. Please go easy on me.
Im talking about rookies. Actual rookies that have just been drafted, not players that play like rookies. The reason I bring this up is because of our two new players that were recently drafted. Ive only seen them play a couple of times, but Im already growing attached to them. But one of the main reasons why i REALLY wish the Lakers  would sign Ebanks and caracter is, the Rookie hazing. I dont mean hazing in a malicious or evil way, but in a way that lets rookies know that they are part of the team and they made it into the League, but also to show them who is boss. Just imagine what kobe will ask the rookies to do for him. "Hey rooks, make sure you get the bottom of my heli". I also want our rooks to get camera time and interview them on how the vets are treating them. Please list on comment area what you guys think the vets will ask for from the "rooks". Thank you guys for your time.

One small suggestion...

…use apostrophes. They’re very friendly and make things much easier to read.

Lakers haven't really had rookies to haze in a while

Sounds like a great team bonding experience if Ebanks and Caracter get signed.

Well let me welcome everybody to the wild wild west. A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness.

Wow, Pippen getting b*$#h slapped.

I wonder how and for how long Jordan and Kobe got hazed.

Magic made me a Laker fan.

In an Interview that I saw with John Salley

he said that some players were told that Kobe was not to be hazed. One of the reasons why the jealousy started.

"That means no more coming into camp fat and out of shape, when your team is relying on your leadership on and off the court. It also means no more blaming others for our team's failure, or blaming staff members for not overdramatizing your injuries so that you avoid blame for your lack of conditioning. " Kobe on Shaq being a leader

It sure did isolate him from his teammates

Kobe once spoke on that and said that these guys wanted to go to strip clubs and out to party and drink and he was not old enough but he said that if he was he still wouldn’t go because we was here to play bball.

Yeah, I know he was never about that stuff, plus he was the only one living with mom and dad. Hell they had to sign his contract.

I remember watching him when he came to the Lakers and thinking how much fun he was having when he played. That gradually went away and it was sad to see. My opinion is that Shaq took a lot of that away with his sniping and shit-talk to the media. Kobe kept quiet as long as he could, but the biggest mistake he made was firing back in that interview with Jim Grey (funny how he keeps popping up), and he said so himself a couple of years ago.

Wow, off on a tangent. At any rate, I think some of that fun-loving Kobe is coming back somewhat as he’s gotten older, but that kid disappeared much too quickly.

When he was young all the fans wanted him to play.

And we might not agree but I personally am glad he fired back. A person can only take so much. But even then, it was both of their faults to a certain degree. Funny though how you can say that they both were immature but Kobe was the teenager and Shaq wasnt.

But I defenitely agree that because of how much older everyone around him was he was forced to grow a lot quicker.

At the time, I was definitely glad he fired back at Shaq. As you said, a person can only take so much.

But in hindsight, as Kobe said, it just made things worse. If he’d been able to keep quiet just a while longer, all would have been revealed much sooner. As it was, the whole thing just looked petty on both sides, instead of Kobe actually being the bigger person (no pun intended) by taking the high road. All that stuff, compounded by the friction with his parents over his marriage at such a young age, to someone they didn’t know, and I think he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. I think Shaq’s shit was the last straw.

Kobe was right when he said the truth would come out because we’ve all seen the real Shaq in the intervening years.

It’s a pretty funny coincidence that the story about Dez Bryant became public just after this.

Yep

I’m glad he stood up to Roy Williams, but 1, or 7 rookies even, can’t take on 50 vets.

I don't mind a small bit of hazing.

I mean, if they make the rookies do a singing and dancing talent show or they have to do the little things like bring food to practice then that’s no big deal. If it goes as far as them taking someone’s credit card and charging a ton of money on it or taping someone up and leaving them there all day, it gets ridiculous.

Yeah

to me thats not hazing. Hazing is the carry everyone’s bags in because it teaches you to be humble b.s. The stuff that borderlines punishment just because you’re a rookie. Quite frankly, singing, dancing, and talent shows are more bonding experiences than that other stuff anyway as it actually lets you in to see a part of a person, as compared to just making them do physical labor to “bond”

LeBron apparently didn't get it too bad either.

Some players got popcorn in their cars, tied up in the shower with ice dumped on them and some bad things like that. LeBron’s best story is that he had to bring donuts to practice.

Oh, and here’s another pretty funny video I found. They made Darren Collison sing “Single Ladies” in front of a bunch of fans.
