Lakers vs Pistons Summer League Notes

Just a running diary of the Lakers first Summer League game:

- DJ Strawberry with a Coast to Coast layup-layup-layup. This guy is pretty quick

- Devin EBanks jumps from just past the free throw line, pumps fake-mid air, and finger rolls the ball in. Reeal Pretty.

- Ebanks with the quick release three pointer with 2 defenders in his face. High arching jumper. Swish

- Ebanks seems to be a great rebounder. He has a ridiculous wingspan. Just reaches into the sky and grabs the ball. The form on his jumper is smooth too. Not awkward at all.

- Nearly every player on the team is wearing Zoom Kobe V's. Best basketball shoe of all time. ALL TIME

- Kurz looks like a Josh Powell-type, with the way he plays the game. Not real strong, but with a nice jumper. Has a knack for blocking shots, like Chris Anderson.

- Caracter with a left handed hook shot. Nice footwork. And One foul.

- Very next play, Caracter running down the lane at full steam, sends players tumbling like bowling pins. Fast and strong.

- We have a sky hook sighting, folks. Courtesy of Caracter. Good moves in the post. Can pretty much get off any shot he wants down there because he's so strong and skilled.

-Lakers lead by 10 midway through the second.

- Gerald Green looks pretty terrible. Tumbling and falling everywhere. Getting his ankles broken by Austin Daye. Just all over the place. Taking bad shots too and turning it over.

Halftime -

Caracter has a sweet sweet jumper. with 3 seconds left on the shot clock on an inbounds play, he nails a contested jumper. Really high arc.

Sims looks ungainly and slow on defense. Clumsy on offense.

Ebanks is basically a clone of Ariza. So long and athletic. Steals the ball and gets an and one layup in transition. Plays a disciplined brand of basketball. Doesn't take random jumpers or over dribble (cough gerald green cough). PERFECT role player.

I like Strawberry. He plays hard. Runs the length of the court to poke the ball away from Austin Daye. Runs back to get fouled on transition. He has good ball handling too.

Caracter with an emphatic swat on Greg Monroe, who looks absolutely gassed. Caracter, despited playing many minutes, still running hard. Completes a 3 point play on the other end after getting fouled. Looks like the most talented player on the floor right now, next to Austin Daye of the Pistons. Offense with either hand.

And a late game meltdown by the lakers. Pistons get to the free throw line at will. Silly fouls.

Overall i'm extremely impressed with ebanks and caracter. They look like they could be quality bench players. Besides some silly late fouls by caracter, they played disciplined and passed the ball willingly. I like ebanks defense. He plays extremely hard and fights through screens.

Nice post.

Hopefully Ebanks and Character develop into solid players.

Character is a bit undersized, but he'll be a good replacement for josh powell

ebanks would be great if his 3pt shooter improves. His stroke looks decent, so he has hope :).

Still need a center though...

Isn’t Caracter a four?

and Ebanks a 3…?

If possible, then we should get a center and if we’re lucky another guard. As much as Sasha’s improved over the playoffs, I still remember all those missed shots of the season…

Yes, we need a Center and a Guard.

However, we also need another 3 as Walton-insurance. The Lakers have a minimum of 4, maximum of six roster spots available. Even after a Center and Guard, the Lakers still need to sign two more people. Ebanks and Caracter seem the best bets.

If Kobe doesn't make his teammates better, how on Earth does Adam Morrison have two rings!?
