Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Congratulations from the Celtics fans..

I'm taking the word of most Celtics fans here when I say congratulations guys. There isn't another team I would've wanted to play against in the finals, and i'm pretty sure its safe to assume you guys feel the same way. We couldn't have asked for a closer, harder fought game 7 then this...and you guys pulled it out in the clutch. It truly pains me to say this, but you guys hit the clutch shots to win the game and take home the title. We brought in Rasheed Wallace to beat you guys, and you guys brought in Ron Artest to beat us. Rasheed played a hell of a game, but I have to give a lot of credit to Artest for basically giving the finger to anyone who doubted him this series and showing up to play.

The fact that you guys pulled this off with Kobe shooting so poorly tonight shows a lot about your team's courage and persistence to win games when they need to. I was never a big Pau Gasol fan, but he showed he has got what it takes to play against the big boys in this league. His HUGE double-double performance tonight was key.

I was confident my boys had this game locked up. 12 point lead in the second half, the Celtics finally managed to contain the Lakers potent offense...everything seemed to line up perfect. However, your key players showed up...your bench outplayed us...and the NBA champion Lakers came out on top.

This was a soid game tonight. The refs let both teams play. No one seemed to be favored at any point tonight. Both teams played physical, and there wasnt 1,000 free throws like the first two games. Congratulations Los Angeles...this is a well deserved trophy...and I hope you guys hope to see us in the finals next year as bad as we want a rematch with you. Congratulations.

I screamed Beat LA all night…but I still have all the respect for the Lakers and their franchise. When this winds up being the cleanest series of the playoffs with no fights or anything…that is saying a lot about the two most stories franchises in all of basketball, if not all of sports. Lets do it again next year.

I had a no-talk-to-any-celts-fan rule during this playoffs

cause the majority that i met were just ignorant laker haters. but reading this, i have respect for your show of class and maturity. Cheers for a well fought series and an epic and intense game 7.

I’d call myself more of an ignorant Suns, Spurs and Cavaliers hater. But I think there is nothing better in all of sports than this match-up….David Stern is probably pissing himself after the money he made on this series! Haha. Let’s one up the NBA and do it again next year.

I Can't Believe I'm Going to Say THis

But the green team won my respect this series. No whining, no wheelchairs, just hard basketball. They were more than a worthy foe, and ironically, did more to cement Kobe’s legacy of greatness than anybody else ever has.

There was a lot to admire on the other team, more than there was to hate on the 2008 team. I promise to go back to hating tomorrow, but tonight, I have to begrudgingly give my respect and like some of the team and its fans (note the SOME :) ).

Nah lol.

Pierce was still a bitch (Does your shoulder hurt? Why don’t you grab it more.) Ray Allen, who I thought was a clean player, did some dirty things to Fisher. Rondo, Rondo is a pussssssie. Grown men don’t need bandaids, get over it.

You're wrong LakerUNLTD

The Celtics DID do everything right to cement Kobe’s legacy. If you are unwilling to admit it, so be it. They pushed, shoved, shot, hacked, blocked out, double teamed, triple teamed, and quadruple teamed their way to a game 7. Then, in game 7, they gave him more.

You see, against Orlando, Kobe looked good, but not great. Orlando lost the series. Orlando came up short at home. Orlando was simply being Orlando. Not these Celtics.

Kobe got in this series what Jordan never could; a true, worthy, foe. Well, four of them, to be honest. There was Paul Pierce: ALL STAR. Kevin Garnett: ALL STAR. Ray Allen: ALL STAR. Rajon Rondo: ALL STAR.

What you are saying is blasphemy to my ears. Though you hate them, inside of yourself, you know they are great. They had to be great to get where they were. Do you forget the history leading up to this series.

Dwayne Wade? Vanquished. Lebron James? Vanquished. Dwight Howard? Vanquished.

And then came Kobe.

And the came the Lakers.

Hell yea, they pushed us o the edge.

As much as i hate the celtics, i gained alot of respect for them after this hard faught series. You couldn’t ask for a better foe.

on a side note: I STILL HATE THE CELTICS!!!!! (but in less hateful way, unless we meet again)

I'm with you guys

I hate the Celtics, but I’m all for a best 2 out of three. Let’s keep monopolizing NBA titles. I can’t count how many people told me that they hate both teams.

Classy post.

Lakers vs Celtics game 7. If it happened every year it’d be ok with me. That was an amazingly fun series. The finals are great no matter who is involved, but when it is Lakers Celtics the drama is amplified.

I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

Classy

But I gotta say I hate your team.

by YankeeLakers24 on Jun 18, 2010 12:40 PM PDT reply actions

It’s nice to see that not all Boston fans are twats, I was just reading the posts in the CB, the excuses some of your fan base are coming up with are preposterous:

Excuses:
1. The Boston Celtic Starting Lineup has never lost. Are you kidding me? You guys are going to use the excuse of not having Perkins, all the while the Lakers own big man can barely move? It makes no sense whatsoever. Boston fans definitely didn’t accept our lack of BOTH Ariza and Bynum in ’08 so using Perkins absence as an excuse is bollocks!

2. The absured rebounding advantage we had, many on the CB use the rebound discrepancy to try and say the Lakers got preferential treatment with the refs. Um…. no… the Lakers got more rebounds because our team is bigger/younger/faster than yours. The Lakers obviously just wanted it more. When you have guys on the verge of retirement like KG and Sheed and guys 6’8 guarding 7 footers, obviously we are going to have an advantage.

3. The commentators represent the NBA bias towards the Lakers…. also wrong. The commentators just invent their own storylines in order to generate interest. If game 7 were played in Boston I guarantee you the storyline would be talking all about Bill Russel, Red, bird etc. Don’t blame the commentators for your team not being able to secure home court advantage.

4. Kobe and Artest should be in jail?! This is plain laughable….No one knows what happened in Colorado, and Artest has already served his punishment for letting his emotions get the better of him in Detroit. To say the Celtics are more gentlemanly than the Lakers is just silly. This is the same team that has Rasheed “king of the T” Wallace, and Kevin “I’m going to punk anyone who is from europe/smaller than I am” garnett, and Paul “I’m the Best player in the NBA” Pierce haha. Not saying the Lakers are without their characters, but Boston fans live in their own glass house.

Trivial excuses aside, I am very happy we played the Celtics. As mush as I hate them, I appreciate them for giving it their all, championships are only as good as the obstacles you have to overcome to get em! Thank you to Boston and its fans for continuing the legacy of our heated rivalry. I will be a life long laker fan/boston hater, I sincerely hope you guys don’t lose faith, hating you guys is too fun !

We're still coping with the grief of losing

But seriously, what an epic series it was. We may have lost to our traditional, most bitter enemies, but we have NOTHING to be ashamed of this season. Everyone left them for dead, and they truly played with the heart of a champion. Unfortunately, they ran into an absolute buzz saw with a possible (give it time and this will turn to probable) GOAT candidate.

Celtics-Lakers is the way it was. The way it is. The way it should be. Our two teams, while they hate each other are absolutely bound to each other through time.

We may have fallen short this year, and all the respect in the world goes to you guys. Celtic pride (not that movie) is back and it’s back big. Enjoy the party, and we’ll more likely than not see you on Christmas Day. Beat LA!

Christmas day indeed. The only way it couldnt be christmas day, is if Lebron, Bosh, and Wade form some sort of evil alliance.

nice post

Captures the way a lot of us feel.

The Lakers are loaded for bear for the next four years. We want to become the franchise with the most titles with this team and Phil at the helm. We want it now and it’s okay with me if the Celtics are the ones to get their butts whupped each Finals while we get there.

Congrats Celtics fans. Be proud of your team.

We lovingly hate you, and we know the feeling is mutual.

What could be better?

by LakersForDeuce on Jun 22, 2010 2:41 AM PDT up reply actions

No worries, I will never lose faith in my celtics fan/laker hater fanship.

…and you are right, those are trivial excuses. To say you guys wanted it a lot more than us, I do disagree a bit. We left a lot on the court the first three quarters…and age absolutely caught up to Sheed and KG. Your team is younger and quicker than ours, but I don’t believe it was rebounds as a whole that was our downfall. The Lakers annihilated us on offensive rebounds, and the second chance points in addition to taking away our transition game is what I really believe was the only significant difference in this game…well that and age. Obviously haha.

by Justin_Bobo on Jun 18, 2010 4:47 PM PDT up reply actions

true, i shouldn’t say who wanted it more, it was obvious everyone was giving everything they had. To both teams credit, they didn’t ever give up. Boston had us against the fence, we fought back, and unfortunately for the Celtics, they just didn’t have enough left in the tank to keep up with us.

I am gonna be very curious to see what changes you guys make in the off-season. Trading Eddie House was a huge mistake for you guys IMO. Everytime that guy touched the ball, I felt like a dagger would soon be coming my way. You guys need to find a way to bring in a guy who inspires that sort of anxiety in the enemy off the bench.

But you guys have 3 great young pieces in Rondo, Perk, and BBG. If you find a way to trade Allen or KG for a younger superstar player maybe like Granger, Al Jefferson, or Joe Johnson, then I think you guys will be set for some years to go.

In Kobe we trust!

by robi s on Jun 18, 2010 5:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree.

Those three young guys are a good place to start for the future. (I’m not saying the current team is done yet.) But letting Eddie House and James Posey go was a mistake in my opinion. Those guys have always been Laker killers. I hated those guys and was glad to see them go.

The C's were a worthy opponent

Thanks for the good sportsmanship. Unlike, all the haters who flooded my facebook page with vile after Game 5 (to which I did not respond) and have not offered any sort of congratulations since, you came on here and showed class. Very unexpected from a fan of a team with the likes of PP, KG, Rondo and Allen on it. Props to you.

You know, the Celtics really did us a favor by getting to the Finals this year. I don’t think many people expected them to get there and in so doing, gave the Lakers a chance at redemption, plus a lot more, since so much was at stake in this series. As a Laker fan, we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. The pressure was on the Lakers and what this series meant was HUGE for the players, coaches, fans and the city of LA. Kobe admitted as much after the game.

I didn’t know what to expect going in. The match up seemed so close. I give credit to the Cetlics for bouncing back with strong games and a couple of wins after tough losses. Though they’re beating up on Allen over there, I think that without his Game 2, the series may have been over sooner. He’s streaky, but I wouldn’t mind having a player like him on our team. That’s a team with a lot of heart and pride. I respect that. Our two teams are not much different in that regard.

Magic made me a Laker fan.

meh…. I really wouldnt mind beating down the Celtics again…. tying their 17th banners and passing them with 18 would be sooooooo sooooooo satisfying.

If Lebron never makes it to the finals I wouldn’t mind, he can’t even enter the convo of whose better with Kobe if he doesn’t make the finals for yet another year in a row

Man, jbobo. I’m feeling so ashamed right now. And to think I was looking to pick a fight with a resentment filled leprechaun lover…

Much respect for your post. Laker Nation FINALLY knows what it feels like to beat you guys in a Game 7. However, there is still much work to be done; we narrowed the gap but the score is still 9-4 your favor. For now, thanks for letting us enjoy this one – I’m sure Jerry West never thought he would see this day…

thanks.....

There are alot of classy fans on both sites. I don’t think Phoenix would have brought out what the Lakers do to Boston. That team played over and above and pushed us to 7 games because of the rivalry. Conversely, the Celtics brought out the best in the Lakers. I think we would have beaten the Magic, but the C’s brought out the best in us, and in the process have made us a better team. It will be interesting to see how the Lakers play next season with this newfound experience. See you next season.
