There's a ton of things to like about basketball. High flying dunks, silky smooth perimeter touches, pin point passing, passionate fan base, and the inexplicable home court advantage. Aside from those things, quality write ups hooked me into basketball. I get my daily dose of basketball / Lakers addiction from three main sources: Silver Screen and Roll, Forum Blue and Gold, and Yahoo Sports. Reading articles from these sites starts my day and can easily affect my mood.
If you are like me who frequents Yahoo Sports, then you know Kelly Dwyer. He's their resident NBA blogger who "usually" writes quality articles about, you know, basketball. I like the way he breaks down games from his "Behind the Box Score" column. He also has a good of way standing up for what he believes in, until this came out.
Two days before that article, KD wrote that if the Lakers are to win, it should be Kobe's show. He said that the Celtics anticipate cutters well and makes it very hard for the Lakers to give Pau the ball at the top of the triangle. Those things make the triangle harder to execute correctly and so he concludes that Kobe should shoot more.
We all know what happened in Game 5. The Celtics started hot, while the Lakers didn't bother to defend while getting manhandled on the other end. The offense was putrid the whole game, save for the 3rd when KB heeded KD's advice. He scored 19 points during that quarter in a variety of tough jumpers, post ups and by tipping in a horrible lob pass. If Kobe didn’t shoulder the scoring during that quarter, we might have been blown out by at least 20 points. That’s just an assumption, but the way the rest of the team played, what I said can’t be too far off.
A day after the game, KD lost his credibility by saying in his BtBS that the Lakers lost their rhythm, and in effect the game, because of Kobe dominating the ball in 3rd. He’s been ripping Kobe for a long time, but I never had a beef with that since he’s been consistent. He’s always said that Lebron is better, that Kobe is not worthy of being compared to Jordan. Those things are fine with me, not because I agree with him, but because he’s consistent. But blaming Kobe for Game 5’s loss when he’s the only Laker who came to play is simply inexcusable. A day before the game he’s saying that Kobe should shoot more, but when what he said in the article didn’t come true, he’s saying that what Kobe did is wrong. I don’t know if KD just plainly hates Kobe or he’s just starting to show some signs of aging, forgetting what he wrote just recently.
(As I've said earlier, I often read articles from this site but this is my first time posting.. Please excuse me if I committed a lot of mistakes.. I'm a programmer, not a writer and I just posted because I can't take what KD has done. I'll continue reading his articles, but this time, I'll take "anything Kobe" that he writes with a grain of salt)
