Lakers have their own ANTI-chant

It's not new that Lakers are hated everywhere. When you win, people hate you, i.e., Duke, Cowboys, Yankees, USC (although that might change with NCAA putting the hammer down soon). Also not new, Lakers are the only team that have an anti-chant in every city. "BEAT L.A.!, BEAT L.A.!" And I'm telling you, that is AWESOME. We, as a fan base, hear it all the time when we watch our beloved purp and gold take on another team. There are signs, chants and everyone knows it. Yankees don't have an anti-chant.

I realize that everyone knows this, especially if you're a Laker fan. But it does bar a reminder of how awesome it is to be a Laker fan, and how truly spoiled we are that we get to root for them. We have our own anti-chant. We are awesome. Simply awesome. I can't remember what year it was, but I remember playing the real OKC when they were the Supersonics (I feel for the Seattle fans, they loved their team), but fans were screaming "BEAT L.A." in the second round of the playoffs. I was in junior high for sure, so 96-97 possibly. It's been around for a while, and it's awesome. Did I say awesome yet?

This topic has gotten me in a lot of trouble with other team’s sites/blogs. I always say that for any team/organization to go out and print out shirts for thousands of fans for free and have them chant that is more of a promotion for the Lakers organization. I compare it to a rapper being shot and his record sales increase due to a negative event. Well that is what the BEAT LA does for this organization. It increases our popularity and the mystique of this team.

Btw..I think this was invented by BLAZERS fans. Thank you Portland.

Erm, I'm pretty sure it's from the Celtics

It was always being chanted back in the 80s… by the Celtics… the damn Celtics.

It had to be back in the 80's,

cuz in the 00’s, they were chanting “MVP” in the Garden, when Kobe was at the free throw line.

I believe

It was invented by Boston fans who chanted this after falling to the 76rs who would then face the Lakers in the finals

^^^^Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!

This is the origin of the “Beat L.A.” chant. It was the Boston fans way of cheering on the 76ers as they were about to eliminate the Celtics in the East and move on to play the Lakers in 1982. Aside from Nike’s, Katee Sackhoff and Full Sail Ale, let’s not give any undue credit to Oregon…

and on the 93rd postseason of the National Hockey League, the Slovakian-hockeygod Zeus commanded from high atop Mount Figueroa..."RELEASE THE MEAT TRAIN!" And it was good.

Yankees don’t have an anti-chant.

typically it would be “Yankees suck” though its mainly done in boston.
beat LA like that chant originated in the same place though I think its used much more often and in more cities.

I’ve seen “Yankees suck” T-Shirts, but I’ve seen more “BEAT LA” stuff. I don’t want to be that guy that always says “I Love the hate,” but it just shows how priviledged we as TRUE Laker fans have been, at least over the last decade. We’ve only had one year of no playoff appearnces, 2 first round boots, reached the finals six times, and 4 championships. That, by any sports organization is considered a great 10 years. I feel lucky I wasn’t born in Dallas, or Miami, or Phoenix, or Portland, or Denver, or New Orleans, or Houston, or Memphis, or Toronto, you know, everywhere else.

Well let me welcome everybody to the wild wild west. A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness.

Some more fuel to the fire

http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/4/30/1451970/poll-which-team-to-root-for-now

Blazer fans deciding who to root for now that their team is out of the playoffs. Notice that they don’t even list the Lakers, yet they list the Suns, the team that just handed them their butts on a silver platter. Wasn’t the last time the Lakers faced the Blazers in the playoffs in 2000?

It’s good to be a Laker fan.

personally, i HATE how they hate the lakers

im not just a fan of the lakers and i seriously want to blow up at really nice people who yakk on and on about how much they hate LA. it kills my precious emotionally wounded girl heart, lol. maybe one day when i man up i’ll appreciate the hate.

FYI i dont hate USC, i just think they’re douchebags lol. now OU and A&M on the other hand…i also wanna bitch slap every cowboy fan out there.

Yeah

Its kind of fucking annoying when you are on the receiving end of a one-sided rivalry.

You show up and go, “Hey how its going”

and they are all “Fuck you LA scum”

and you are sitting there wondering what you did, because, certainly there has nothing been done between the two of you to fan the flames of rivalry as they have always very politely rolled over whenever push came to shove, so you are like, “whatever, what a jerk”, and just don’t get what the fuck their problem is, and want to be mad at them, but then forget why you should and start worrying about your real opponents.

by Cool Dudes on May 1, 2010 12:14 AM PDT up reply actions

We're not all bad, suzie-q. lol

Yes, we have a few wankers, just like every fan base. Being a Lakers/Cowboys fan has thickened my skin over the years. Some people see it as a charachter flaw if you are a Lakers or Cowboys fan. I figured out that it’s their problem and not mine. That’s the teams I root for. Not everything that I am. I always hear, “Cowboys/Lakers suck!” I just tell them, “What a compelling argument. I’m a changed man.” Can’t argue with idiots. You can’t win.

by illcowboy on May 11, 2010 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

i hope you talkin' bout Okla State...

Cause you ain’t bitch slappin’ this Dallas Cowboy fan. I guarantee that. Lol.

We have an anti-chant. Dallas sucks. But it’s not as powerful or as heartfelt as the Beat L.A. chant.

Anyways, great to be a Lakers fan. OKC? Sucks to be you! You’re a good team. But not ready to mess with the champs just yet.

I disagree

OKC WAS ready to mess with the champs, and they proved it in Games 3 and 4..

FT disparity

Horribly one sided. Yes they came out to play, but given the fact that they shot double the free throws leaves one to ponder wtf was happening on the play-calling side of things.

hell yea im talking about the dallas cowboys lol

i dont get it. you’re born and raised in texas and you like the cowboys but not the mavs?

by suzie-q on May 1, 2010 9:41 AM PDT up reply actions

who told you i was born and raised in texas?

I was born in texas. Not raised. I was raised in California. Hence the Lakers support. Plus I went to a couple of Magic Johnson basketball camps when I was a kid. I was already a fan. But meeting him really did it for me.

There are so many haters on this world and the reaction to the Cowboys and the Lakers are almost the same. So many people define themselves by hating those teams. That’s weird to me. Pull for a team. Don’t just pull for a team out of hatred. I’mma Cowboy/Laker fan cause I love the team. Not cause I hate the Celtics or the Giants. I mean, I do hate those teams. But only because their fans are jerks. I actually pulled for the Giants to beat the Patriots cause I thought it would be a great upset. I hated to see the Lakers lose in the finals but I was somewhat happy for Garnett and Pierce (as happy as I could be). I’m too busy pulling for my team to be consumed with hatred. At the end of the day, any Laker victory is a good day. Any day the Celtics, Cavs, Suns, Spurs or any of our rivals lose, doesn’t even come close. Just my two cents.

OKC was not ready to mess with us. The made it competitive, which is honorable. But they won two games at home and really should’ve lost Game 3 IMO. They didn’t play well in Game 5 or Game 6. Durant had a pretty subpar series. Not to mention, we couldn’t make a three point shot for most of the series and Bynum is hurt. Kobe is hurt. LO is hurt. They’re all playing somewhat injured. Add all this up and OKC made it competitive. That’s admirable. But it doesn’t shake me to the core.

Now if they’d won on the road and then we were down 3-2 going into Game 6 THEN I’d say they were ready to mess with us. Denver won Game 1 against us last year. They were ready. OKC wasn’t.

Until then, I’ll say good series, you pushed us to the limit, but you deserve to be exactly where you are. Sitting at home.

"They need security in the world, Craig!"

oh sorry

i checked your profile and saw you were born in west texas so i kinda automatically assumed you grew up in texas. should’ve known better with you liking the lakers. i hate the boys so much i root for the eagles/giants/skins whatever chance i get despite their super obnoxious fans. gotta say though, cowboys stadium is the SHIT. got a chance to watch my longhorns play there in big 12 championship game and i was seriously so awed by the stadium i dont think i payed attention to the game in the 2nd half lol

by suzie-q on May 1, 2010 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions

you're a longhorn fan but not a cowboys fan?

Ok. That’s a new one. But I’ve heard that UT fans tend to be independent. They pull for UT grads more than anybody. I know a Cowboy fan that has to tell himself not to pull for Orakpo when he plays against Dallas because he’s a Redskin now. Lol. I always thought that was funny.

I’ve never really ran into obnoxious Cowboys fans. Maybe 10 years ago. But not now. Of course there are jerks in every bunch. But I’ve run into HORDES of obnoxious eagles and giants fans. I mean, they’ve convinced themselves any girl Romo goes out with is ugly. Really? Jessica Simpson? Carrie Underwood? They’re not my type. But they ain’t ugly.

I hope we kick the crap out of the Jazz. I still see Karl Malone and John Stockton everytime I see that team.

It's not just the Lakers, but L.A. in general

I’m a Padres fan because I was born and raised in San Diego and I’m going to the Padres Dodgers game down in San Diego in a couple of weeks and they’re giving away “Beat LA shirts”.

I definitely think it got its origin from the Celtics but it has transpired into a hate for the city of Los Angeles. I don’t mind LA as I live here now but better believe I’ll be rocking my “Beat LA” shirt at the Padres game. I think everyone just views LA and it’s people as jerks. Some of it is warranted, some isn’t.
