When are These Guys Going to Wake Up?
As these kind of losses piles up, the championship will start to slip away before all of us even know it.
This should have been a great night for the Lakers but as we have seen so many times this season, a supposed to be great night turned into a nightmare of confusion. It started out as the Lakes annual trip to South Florida with as usual in Laker road games in the East Coast, a big turnout of Laker fans with fans even chanting M-V-P for Kobe Bryant in where is supposed to be Dwyane Wade's house. All of these plus an article by Vince Thomas on NBA.com about how the fortunes of Kobe and Wade have switched will surely irritate and pump up the Heat. On top of that the Lakers are the defending champs and well, they are the Lakers so they will always have a target on their backs. But as usual with the arrogance of the Lakers, they were again lackadaisical at the start of the game thinking they could take it easy and still march over against the Heat while the Heat are playing hard and dictating the tempo which they dictated for almost the whole game.
The Lakers should have won this game, their still fresh as it is the first road game of a road heavy schedule in March and overall they are just the better team; well at least in paper. But they lost and it was a tough one on overtime and they will have to deal with it on a late flight to Charlotte and play again tomorrow against a team that has their number. Now in miles away, Lebron James was watching this game studying the Lakers and he knows he and his team are in the driver seat right now for this year's NBA Championship because they have the Lakers just were they want them. With this loss, the Lakers fall a game and a half against Cleveland for the best record in the NBA. Now, most likely on the rate things are going the Cavs will have the best record and have home court advantage throughout the Playoffs as they have an easier schedule remaining on their calendar compared to the remaining schedule of the Lakers. Now, it will be a tall order for the Lakers to face the Cavs in the Finals with home court advantage belonging to much hungrier Cleveland team and I hope they have the humility to consider that fact after what we have seen so far this season.
I remember the title of the credits here when we lost to Cleveland at the Q. The title was "Our worst nightmare has happened" or something like that. Well I tell you that we haven't seen it yet and I will spit it out before it ever happens and here it is. "Lebron James is the NBA MVP, NBA Champion, the most sought after free agent in NBA History, and really supplanting Kobe Bryant as the games best player". ESPN even made it their headline the other day, well at least the part where "he could be champion and the most sought after free agent in history in six months". But that my friends is our worst nightmare and I can speculate that that is Kobe Bryant's worst nightmare; where his legacy is again at stake courtesy of Lebron James taking it away from him. Lebron even wants to take away the No. 1 jersey title from him. So I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having the home court advantage throughout the Playoffs especially with the way these Lakers are playing and their consistent bad habits and it will be tough to get that advantage if they continue to lose games against lesser talented teams.
It's been a difficult season to say the least and our record does not reflect on that but its been difficult considering the league's other elite teams always getting the better of us and of course the plague of injuries. So I hope the Lakers will realize the sense of urgency that is required in this moment and not keep on repeating statements after losses that "we got pick it up" and things like that over and over again without actually applying those things that they've learned. This part of the Lakers reminds me of the William Butler Yeats poem "The Second Coming" were the Lakers can't do anything about their problems.
But they have to find a way and they've got to change and if it takes for giving Farmar more minutes than Fish then so be it. If we have to make Pau Gasol eat bicycle tires for breakfast then so be it. I know that the NBA season is a marathon and not a sprint contest but the finish line is already visible and the Lakers has got to start sprinting. So far, I would like to commend Ron Artest another great defensive effort. He made life difficult for Dwyane Wade and the trade for him is finally paying dividends, let's just hope the other guys can really pick it up and go on a nice winning streak for this month and most importantly to stay healthy.

Dude
Denver will beat the crap out of Cleveland if Stern will allow it. He let the Spurs win a few years back, so anything is possible.
Magic made me a Laker fan.
If Stern really does pull strings and controls the outcomes of individual games he would not use that power to give us the championship. The Cavs-Spurs series was the least watched finals series in recent history. He does not want small teams playing. If he fixed games he’d make sure LA would face a rotation of NY, Chicago and Boston. And he didn’t “let” the spurs win. They won because they were a far better team, we had no right to be in the finals that year, Lebron carried a terrible team that far. The equivalent would be Wade taking the Heat to the finals this season.

That team wasn't that bad.
I agree that the 2007 Cavs team had no business in that year’s Finals but they were not that bad and so is the Heat team this year. Although East is just flat out weak that’s why the Cavs had a high seed in the 2007 playoffs and the Heat, if not for the East being weak; they would be a lottery team.

I really don’t believe that Stern controls the outcomes of games but I don’t deny it’s possibility either. I have no idea because I’m not in his office. But you’re right, if he did have any control over the outcome he would have wanted James to win the championship against the the boring Spurs because it would have brought more attention and money to the game in the same way that Jordan’s personal success helped the popularity of the league overall.
Whether Stern wants small teams playing in the Finals or not, I still think that small market teams can draw big ratings. It has to do more with how good, interesting or exciting those teams are to watch and how well they capture the imagination of the country as a whole (look at this year’s Super Bowl between two small market teams). The Finals that year between the SA and Cleveland was just plain boring and with lackluster ball being played. That’s why nobody wanted to watch it. I dragged myself to watch because I had become supportive of the Spurs after they beat the Pistons in the Finals and because they had Big Shot Bob and because I was rooting for James to lose so people wouldn’t start calling him the greatest of all time.
So let me rephrase my original post. I hope Denver will beat the crap out of Cleveland if they meet in the Finals.

Umm
Lebron carried them or they pulled their weight, but got no credit as usual. Look outside of the 48-pt game my man. LBJ barely shot 45% for the entire playoffs. If it hadn’t been for free throws he would’ve barely gotten to 20 some games. For example, Game 6 of Detroit series he shot 19 fts, making 14, on his way to 20 points as Boobie dropped 30 and killed Detroit from 3. You can argue all you want about ast and rebs, but when was the last time you heard someone say Scottie Pippen led the Bulls to the championship.
At this point, I think it will be a good thing if the lakers don't have homecourt advantage.
If they make it to the finals and face the cavs, they might use their homecourt as a reason to sleepwalk through some games.
Is that you Dacos?
Hmm
You may be on to something there… but the Lakers play way better at home. Please, please let the Lakers just be coasting on autopilot until the playoffs start. If not, it’s curtains for them.

This could have been written last season
That turned out OK.

As a celtics fan...
You guys probably have no reason to worry. The bobcats are a wierd, wierd team that gives the Lakers and Cavs trouble, but not the Celtics. Even I’m not going to chalk that up to anything significant…bad matchups.
And really, it’s not like you guys lost against the nets! (insert disgusted and shameful face) The celtics did. Just imagine how I felt last weekend after hearing about that disgusting event.
Anyways, I’m actually posting here because I (and many in boston) are really starting to hate the Cavs. I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say I’d would actually rather have you guys win it all if it’s against Cleveland. I just watched the Cleveland-Detroit game tonight, and it was horrible how Stuckey collapsed, and the Cavs just tore them apart. I hate their fans, their city, and their obsession with LeQueen. Andy Varejao is by far my least favorite player in the NBA. Please, please beat down Cleveland if we don’t.
And honestly, even without Kobe, your team is GOOD….unlike the Cavs. They are pretty much like Lequeen’s little sisters. Not a real team. I know, I know, heresy from a boston fan here…but i definitely acknowledge talent, and the Lakers ARE better than the Cavs as a team. So don’t worry. At least you didn’t lose to the nets.

Ah! something Laker and C’s fans agree on.

No offense meant, Ducksawce.
I’ve got much respect for a vet team like the C’s making a play for another championship on the downside of a lot of their careers. I think Celtic fans forget that. The Celtics aren’t a team of kids on the rise, they’re a team of hardened, still tough all-stars not ready to walk away yet.
They’re not always going to look good over a long season, but they’ll be ready to give everything come playoff time.

no offense taken
it’s frustrating watching the Big 3 have their off nights, while Rondo is just entering his prime. Every game, one of the veterans plays out of their minds…but the other one or two just sort of stand around. Rondo can do much, but he can’t be an all-game playmaker.
like you guys (but probably much more so), I’m hoping “our” teams are simply bored with the regular season process. You guys have the 1 seed solid pat for sure. As I saw somebody else here mention, “Cleveland is playing like their hair is on fire”! I certainly know the feeling. But of course, Cleveland is the most hyped team on earth!!! Lebron is supposedly god, and him not winning last year was the end of the world in Cleveland. Unlike our two teams, they are DESPERATE, and want to prove it NOW, in case they won’t be able to later.
Oh god, you think the lakers have it bad? Sometimes, for whole games it is Rondo doing EVERYTHING. The last C’s-Cavs game, he literally took over, but ran out of gas after playing 47 minutes. It’s just not possible to have a point guard do that the whole game…hence the Cavs took over the lead for the first time at the beginning of the 4th, and never looked back.
As for you guys, again, you don’t have this same problem. Though the Lakers may have down games, you guys always scare everybody…and are at least fairly consistent (compared to the Celtics’ shitty standards of consistency at least).

Wow
ducksawce is probably the only celtic’s fan that has not cursed and mocked the lakers and the fans. you’re probably the only celtic’s fan i’ll respect in my entire life…

while i appreciate ur comments about us beating cleveland
on the other side of the coin, i REALLY hate denver and dallas. therefore i would actually prefer cleveland beat either of them if we don’t make it to the finals.
i gotta admit though, cleveland is getting more and more cocky.
Wow
Thanks man! It was amazing to read your comments. Thanks for your support IF we do get to meet the Cavs in the Finals.
I hope Boston and the Lakers remain great teams so that we can keep the Finals rivalry going. So we can get a chance for redemption for 2009, and so we can catch up to you guys in championships and to even out the head to head record a bit.

Answer to topic question
Uhh, ummm, hopefully some time this week, I hope the Lakers wake up.
There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.
beans
If I were the coach I’d pack the locker room with bags of fresh coffee beans to send them a humorous message. That would lighten the mood in what I imagine to be a tense and discontent locker room right now.

On to Stern
Guys Stern knows that people are on to him so of course he’s gonna allow denver to foul anyone they want and go to the free throw line the most…they are a physical team, what? How do you play physical and still go to the free throw line more then their opponent? And think of this most of the player who get to the free throw are those who can make their own shot. denver only have two players that can make their own shot so where in the world does all those files come from? Here’s the theory. Stern want’s to cover his tracks and shade his ways by helping another team to win. That’s why denver has gotten this cockiness out of know where.
