The size the Cleveland Cavaliers have/had, that we are all a little "scared" of worried about, may have completely disappeared. With Zydrunas Ilgauskas not due back on the Cavs roster for another 30+ days (if he even signs with the Cavs), the news streaming on ESPNews this morning was music to my ears. I dont wish injury on anybody, but I still hold a huge grudge against Shaq. Shaquille O'neal will undergo surgery on his thumb today, which has a ligament tear in it. This type of procedure normally takes 6-8 weeks to heal from. There are currently only 7 weeks left in the regular season.
Shaq may possibly miss more time, and knowing Shaq from personal experience (meaning I watched him drag his butt up and down the court for many years), I doubt he comes back to the Cavs, after those 8 weeks, in any kind of shape.
It seems likely that Big Z ("want some dvd's") will soon sign with the Cavs and return to them after 30 days. However, the Cavs will be without any true center until if/when he returns. So, they will be even smaller than they were last year. Even if/when Big Z returns to the Cavs, he will have roughly 5-7 games to get back into rhythm with the team. I know both Z and Shaq will most likely be on the roster if they meet the Lakers in the Finals, but does this pose a problem for the Cavs against the teams of the East in the early rounds of the playoffs.
The Cavs acquired Shaq to stop "the other superman" Dwight Howard. Will Shaq come back completely out of shape and out of rhythm? Most likely. But, who knows, maybe he will surprise everyone.
On another note, wasn't there some player who tore a ligament in his hand but continued to play in the NBA and lead his team all the way to the NBA Finals? I think there was. I think his name was Kobe Bryant. Shows you who is the true leader and warrior of the NBA. Kobe has so much heart and determination, its just ridiculous. Hey Shaq, tell me how Kobe's a$$ tastes. lol. (Sorry about that last part - I just hold a huge grudge against Shaq for destroying a dynasty).
Anyways, wanted to see what you guys thought about the Cavs losing Shaq: big problem for them, no problem....
