Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Is this the beginning of a trend?

Well folks, two games without Kobe and two decent wins, this one without Bynum as well.

Hope Kobe is paying attention. We need to share the ball like this the rest of the way. Wonder if the Denver game would have gone different if Kobe had sit out.

Hmmmm.

Wonder if Kobe's ego would ever allow him to back off without trying to make some point, like not shooting at all for a whole game, etc.

At least we know we have other guys who can actually play...well, sometimes.

the denver loss was more because chauncy & JR was on fire

our offense wasn’t bad
but when a team shoots near 70% from the 3, there’s not help

2 games isn't a trend

the talent is still there to contend, but not sure it would measure up throughout the entire season. Happy about the wins, but Kobe makes this a championship team.

No more raining on BN's rainy parade, they took their ball and went home, lmao.

It's not Kobe

It’s more Bynum.

The Lakers are 5-0 this season when Bynum plays less than 15 minutes. They’ve all been fairly big margin wins too.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Way too small of a sample size.

It's more on Bynum

I think phil should bring Bynum off the bench and make him earn his minutes just like what he did to Lamar. LO still flirting with double double every game when he comes off the bench.

Nope

more of working together and using the system, than about the players. Pau and Bynum played well together in the last several games

Eric Pincus said it best when he said:

“playing without kobe is a diminishing return – the longer the lakers go – the harder it’ll be to maintain”

You don't think so

cuz as teams figure out who the hot shooters are and who makes what cuts it becomes harder and harder to maintain as defenses know what to expect. They already know what to expect when Kobe’s in, but not when he’s gone. Its like trying to play the Rockets right after Yao Ming got dropped. No one had any idea how they would play and who would play where, but as time goes by with film you can figure it out and it makes them less lethal.

*Yao Ming didn't get dropped

I meant when he had to sit cuz of his injury.

by Marty Mart on Feb 9, 2010 11:02 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah

I got what you mean even at the first post. IMO however, our offense is such that even when you know what to expect, it is such multi-pronged that the defense would still have a hard time neutralizing it. Add the pick n roll wrinkles that they do from time to time, and it becomes a bitch to guard against, since opposing teams don’t know whether it’s a triangle, PnR, or even an iso that’s coming. As long as the offensive sets are run, especially in the regular season, I don’t think the return diminishes.
