Lakers-Spurs Open Thread

San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers, Feb 8, 2010 7:30 PM PST

Howdy, hoop aficionados. Can you believe there are only 30 regular-season games left? I really hope the Lakers make the playoffs this year.

Drink away your Super Bowl hangover whenever:

  • Tim Duncan makes a bank shot,
  • Eva Longoria Parker is mentioned or shown in the stands,
  • Someone brings up how Gregg Popovich used to complain about the Pau Gasol trade,
  • DeJuan Blair hits double digits in rebounds, or
  • Duncan starts bitching to the refs.

Jingle, jangle, jingle.

No wait, that won't work

We want to get tipsy right? Drink if he takes MORE than ten seconds!

LOL!

Won’t be joining that one though. I’ll be a guaranteed drunk even before the game ends.

Alright I’m still feeling the glow of the win up in Portland. And I am psychologically prepared for a loss tonight – especially with out Kobe. But I would really like to beat the hell out of these bastards honorable opponents.

I just hope we look better than the Clips did Saturday night. I was at that game and my eyes are still sore from watching that mess.

OK LET’S GO LAKERS!!!

Which of these things is not like the others? 15 NBA Championships, most wins in NBA history, current NBA champions, lost by 20 to the F'ing Spurs.

Hah! That's what you get

for watching the Clips.
BTW, had fun reading your posts at the PtR. It’s like reading two buddies go at it:
 “You win”
“No, you win”
“I’m telling you, you win!”
“No, I don;t think so, you win”

Man, I wanna beat the Spurs so bad tonight. But I’m trying to stay realistic and I do think it is best that Kobe (and Drew) rests. So I am keeping it low key so I’m not too disappointed.

I hope the Kobester doesn’t come back against the Jazz. They’re a physical team and the Lakers should learn how to deal with that without their toughest player.

Bynum should play tho

by KBZ on Feb 8, 2010 7:27 PM PST up reply actions

Kobe and Bynum shouldn’t play if they’re injured for the Jazz game. Why should Bynum play if he’s (still)injured when the Jazz game rolls around but Kobe shouldn’t because of the “physical play”? Double standard much.

I don’t think Bynum can reinjure a bruised hip as easily as Kobe can reinjure an ankle

If Bynum can get up and down the court i have no problem with him playing the game

enough of this

you know who David Friedman is? Here’s what he says about it:

Regarding Gasol’s comments, you have to understand how the media operates. First, a group of media members ask Coach Jackson some questions about Kobe during Jackson’s postgame standup right after the game. Then, the media horde goes into the locker room and someone says to Gasol something to the effect of “Coach Jackson mentioned that Kobe shot the ball a lot. What do you think?” Gasol hardly lashed out at Kobe but he did mention that maybe he and Bynum should get more touches. The next thing you know, half a dozen writers have the lead for their game stories: “Gasol Says Kobe Shoots too Much!” In other words, a lot of writers have preconceived story lines, so they ask their questions in a way that is geared to get answers that fit the story that they already decided to write. You can detect this methodology on your own if you are savvy enough when you read various game recaps but I also have had the opportunity to be in some of those media hordes and to witness firsthand exactly how certain writers put together their stories.

Another big win

Lakers executing very well without some key players.

I think Andrew Bynum needs to go to the bench when he gets back to be quite honest with you. I think the team executes much better when he’s not on the floor.

Meh, it's hard to ignore it

When bynum went down last year, this team finally clicked and went on to win a championship with him coming off the bench all the way through the finals.

When Bynum goes down in Portland, the Lakers go on to win HUGE. Without Bynum tonight the Lakers play another very good all around game…

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

by VivaLasVivian on Feb 8, 2010 10:16 PM PST up reply actions

A healthy Bynum would have eviscerated this team

No size to stop him. And if we’re complaining about him fitting into the offense, getting playing time is the only way do so. It’s one thing to ask Odom to go to the bench. It’s another to ask Bynum, who likely wouldn’t take it well. Any gains we get would be by far outweighed by the negatives.

Yeah, you're right

I’m being quite hasty with my comments here. Honestly the biggest change to this championship team though hasn’t been the Artest Ariza swap, it’s been the Lamar Odom-Bynum minutes swap.
