Around SBN: How A Letter From Tom Coughlin Helped One Fan's Recovery

That's the dealio with his sprained right shoulder. But cheer up: Houston waived Brian Cook today! Who's down for bringing B Cook back to the Lakers?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Josh Powell

He can shoot and rebound. Brian Cook would just jack up three after three after three. It was like there was an incentive in his contract to shoot a million threes.

Damn

Sucks about Sasha. He was actually playing half decent. Looks like a good time for Kobe to come back so that Shannon can move back to his original role which shrinks the need for Sasha.

i remember when cook was on the lakers

he was god awful…he kept bricking jumper after jumper after jumper…and if it wasnt jumpers it was 3s…

good thing

that Jordan and Shannon are playing well. Bench is in good hands, especially when Lamar will return to the second unit. Not really worried.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

It’s one of my favorite sayings, but I couldn’t understand why the Lakers ran only 13 players (12 if you agree that Ammo is not a true NBA player) when the season started. I kept saying that I know they want to save money, but what happens if someone gets hurt. Well, that day has come and we are down two more players and now we have to play (gasp) Ammo spot minutes. I wonder if saving the $2 million dollars will be worth it when we have play Ammo if anyone else goes down. Also imagine if we had those bench players. We could have packaged one or more of those guys with Ammo to get Hinrich or someone else who could have helped the Lakers. No plan, no help. Thanks again Mitch for not planning ahead.

Great players win games. Great teams win championships.

aww, just when the guy started to pick it up a little.

hope this doesn’t take another mental toll on him…just in case we might need him again since luke is out. i think he actually plays the 3 better than the 2 nowadays with the shannon/jordan backcourt. if only he’d bulk up a little.

by Nostance on Feb 20, 2010 5:44 PM PST reply actions

The Lakers backcourt is a bit thin. Nobody is available to back up Brown or Artest.

I wonder if the Lakers would signed a wing player to a 10-day contract that knows the triangle. Coby Karl? Joe Crawford?

by E-ROC on Feb 20, 2010 5:51 PM PST reply actions

Yeah, Kupchak will have to make a 10-day signing

We’re awfully thin on the wings.

Amusing thing? McGrady definitely has something left in the tank. He put that line up with Sefolosha guarding him.

Major coup by the Knicks because they have his bird rights, I think.

The Knicks could make him a sixth man after signing two All Stars, or one All Star and a couple very good role players.

major coup for my fantasy team as well :D

Fuck, even when Kobe comes back, how do we handle the backup SF minutes with both Sasha and Luke back?

I think Stackhouse got picked up, otherwise I’d say go for him, but now I dunno who we should get.

sasha's only out for 2 weeks...

we’ll probably just see increased minutes at the 2 for shannon and more SF duty for kobe (and maybe lamar)

by Nostance on Feb 20, 2010 9:46 PM PST up reply actions

Its at least two weeks. Shoulder sprains are nasty. The Lakers would be wise to sign somebody

to a 10-day for depth purposes. They have no one backing up SF or SG at the moment. Extending Kobe at SF isn’t a wise considering he is returning from an injury. I suppose Phil could put Powell as a back-up to Artest, but the Mitch really go out and get someone who is comfortable on the perimeter.

by E-ROC on Feb 20, 2010 9:58 PM PST up reply actions

kobe can play 20 mins at the 2 and 10+ minutes at the 3

phil loves that small ball lineup with kobe at the 3 anyways.

i’m not worried about extended minutes for kobe. if you really want to down his minutes, just let kobe took over sasha’s minutes, which is only like 15 min/game for the last 5 games. and i’m pretty sure kobe will be playing at least 30+ a game (unless it’s a blowout where he gets to sit the 4th).

I’m not against signing a 10 day contract though. i’m just saying that if kobe comes back and assuming no more people get hurt, the guard rotation will be just fine. if anything, LO can also fill in at the 3

by Nostance on Feb 20, 2010 11:04 PM PST up reply actions

That's true, but I think the Lakers should be cautious and just sign another player.

An injury to the backcourt during Tuesday’s game would make things a little hairy. Be cautious and just sign a player. It’ll be hella cheap since the contract is prorated.

by E-ROC on Feb 21, 2010 7:08 AM PST up reply actions

wally szczerbiak anyone???

the cavs let him go this year
he can fill in sasha’s spot and play small forward
plus he can hit the 3 of course….

hes 6'7"

he can play at shooting guard or small forward (aka 3)
we should go for him…

by shaqfor3 on Feb 20, 2010 10:15 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, but he has two left feet. Wally can't play the two either.

I don’t think he’s played that position in years. He’s played the three or four with the Cavs.

Othyus Jeffers fits the bill, but signing a D-League is super highly unlikely.

Just listing names

Von Wafer, Gerald Green, Wally Szczerbiak, Coby Karl.

Eh, probably Wafer.

Nope

Well, he was. Think he tried to sign with Memphis earlier this year.

Tony Gaffney might be available for not a lot of money.

He was the last guy cut from training camp, and everyone seemed really high on him, but the Lakers didn’t want to spend the money. They might reconsider that now.

by Darkemans on Feb 20, 2010 11:19 PM PST up reply actions

Gaffney wouldn't be a bad choice

Not sure if he has a buyout clause in his contract though.

He does. When Luke initially went down the Lakers inquired about him.

wow…. the injuries just keep coming this year! i dont remember us having such a bad injury year in a whilee….

bynum u better be careful, it would be nice to have u 100% for at least one postseason!

In Kobe we trust!

by robi s on Feb 20, 2010 11:59 PM PST reply actions

the rest of the team is taking the sacrifice for bynum

in the form of smaller injuries

though, i wonder if we should sit him on tuesday (even though it’s already february)

by Nostance on Feb 21, 2010 12:44 PM PST up reply actions

Eddie Jones, anyone?

Just kidding. Trevor would have been perfect. I’d even take Radmanovic for the 3 spot. But to be realistic: Coby Karl, Ira Newble, Von Wafer.
