THE FLOAT

Going off of my original FanPost of THE GLOAT (Greatest Laker of All Time), I decided to do a similar post  on THE FLOAT (Favorite Laker of All Time).

There are many to choose from and I will try to list them all. This is going to be one rrrrrreeeeeaaallllllyyyy long poll, but here goes nothing...

Star-divide

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, there are just too many names to do pictures for everyone. My personal favorites were Dennis Rodman and Ronny Turiaf. Man, do I miss Turiaf. Rodman has always been my favorite player of all time, and when he came to the Lakers - well that just made my day. I'm still sad he only made it one season with the Lakers. The man is still playing in Europe. He is a great example of a "freak athlete".

So here comes the poll. Bear with me, I listed alot of people, but I wanted to give everyone a fair shot. I had fun just remembering some of the names that the Lakers used to have on their roster. Hope its not too long! BTW, the names will be in order of the years they were on the laker roster. All the way from 1948 to today. At the very least, this poll will give you a timetable of Laker History.

Before Kobe in my book earns that right

he has to show the same loyalty that Magic has done through out his career. I can’t vote for Kobe simply because he could have easily of been a Chicago Bull.

yeah

but Magic signed his contract during winning years. Not after everyone had been traded away and leaving.

by Marty Mart on Feb 2, 2010 12:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

part of everyone leaving is his fault..

although he isn’t 100% at fault that was in part due to his own actions and lack maturity..

Perhaps you'd like to vote for a favorite?

Instead of getting up on a soapbox and telling everybody why Kobe isn’t your favorite. I mean that is the premise of this article/pol is it not?

by wavenstein on Feb 2, 2010 2:39 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

easy..easy

No need to get defensive or offensive. If you don’t agree with my point of view that is fine but you have to chill out. I don’t expect people to agree with me but if you can’t disagree without making it personal it’s best to not even reply. I was merely having a conversation with someone else. Just because we are all fans of the same team doesn’t mean we have to have the same point of view. On top of that, there have been many instances in which FanPost take a life of their own so it isn’t uncommon for them to turn or change topic. I’m sure you love Kobe as much as I do but to point out a flaw in Kobe doesn’t make me less of a fan. He isn’t perfect or hasn’t been perfect in his career. Did he not request to be traded? Did he not ask to preferably to go to the Bulls? That is all that I was saying. You can’t seriously expect for all Lakers fans to love Kobe unconditionally can you?

good one Carlos

although I think Kobe’s flaws are lints on a suit (i.e. too small to nitpick). I personally voted for Magic because of the way he ran showtime. Exciting and fluid offense, hard defense without getting rough, does not back down from a challenge (even a hard one from those greenshirts), but still respectful of the opposing team. that’s why He’s respected even by most Celtic fans of that era.

by altree on Feb 2, 2010 6:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Whats up

You are 100% correct. The further Kobe gets into his career the less meaning his past judgement calls matter. Personally, I still think Magic’s in the “family” sense of the term is truly a life long Lakers. In my eyes, whatever Kobe does from this point on he will be one of my favorite but not over Magic, at least I can’t give him that title yet. I love the respect the Magic has generated from even Celtic fans. That is the biggest compliment you can get..

I’m still learning but it is a great experience. It sure is hard to be a Lakers fan.. : ) sometimes.

Since I voted Magic as the Gloat

I’ll vote for someone different in my Float…My vote is for the Captain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Woohoo, I get to look forward to another 7-6 season ("at best") in 2010! There's nothing like going to Idaho for a bowl game.

i knew someone would vote for ammo...

he is a fan favorite

Damn

how did I overlook Anthony Peeler, that guy was a leader during the dark times.

I think most of us tend to forget what he did as a Laker,

because of what he did as a King vs the Lakers later in his career.

I know I do.

One of the few pg's we have had in the modern era, besides Magic,

that was a great player.

I can sill hear Chick: “Nick Van Excelent with the dribble-drive & the finger roll… Counts if it goes…. it gggoooeeessss!! Nick The Quick with the possible 3 point play.”

or

“Nick the Quick got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.”

Magic Johnson easily.

Kobe is right up there too, however I grew up watching Magic in the 80’s.

The list above could be quite a bit shorter though.

very good point

i was thinking of only players, but chick has probably had more influence on the Lakers than most people on tis list.

maybe i should replace ammo with him.

Theres no way we win the title in ‘99-’00 if he wasn’t on the roster.

I mean he did play in 16 of the 82 games.

Favorite Laker?

Well my favorite player is Kobe … my favorite Laker might be Jerry West then. Although Chick Hearn is truly the greatest Laker of all time.

His name is Anthony "Pig" Miller

Chick gave him the nickname, and he is in the poll.

In light of the team's final trip up north for the season. I thought we go down memory lane to look back at a classic game against the Warriors in Oakland. The day was April 20, 1999, yes the day of Columbine Massacre. Also, has anyone noticed that we have had a lot of classic games against the Warriors even though we have always assembled better teams than they did.?

Heres a new mix I made.

Kobe hasnt always been known as a clutch player. In game 5 of the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals, he missed a shot to win the game in the 4th quarter and 2 three-pointers to tie the game in the last minute of overtime, all of the shots being airballs. With that the Utah Jazz ended the playoffs for the Lakers in the 2nd round. Shaquille O'Neal commented years later that "Kobe was the only guy who had the guts at the time to take shots like that."

Ever since that horrible experience in his rookie year, Kobe has worked harder and has learned how to make those shots with the game on the line. This vid features some lines from Carmelo Anthony's Become Legendary commercial as well as some of Kobe's recent gamewinners.

Enjoy!
Kobe Game Winner vs Raptors - Whoa, I watched this and then I read the comments on Youtube claiming Kobe travelled, which I had not heard of. Then, after watching a few times, I have to say, I agree, Kobe changes his pivot foot before putting the ball down on the floor. I also think there's no way a ref catches that in real time, and even if they do, they can't be sure enough to call it then, either.
