Lakers-Celtics Open Thread

For Laker fans, it's so far been a day of disappointment. The team was this close to acquiring Marcus Banks, but Mitch Kupchak just couldn't pull the trigger on the blockbuster trade. Will whiffing on Banks haunt the Lakers in June? I fear the worst, my friends.

Lebron relies on going to the basket in the clutch but if that’s not available he will choke on the ft line and his outside shooting will not help him. his high FG % hides the fact that he has no outside shot because most of his points come in the paint.

Sup guys, late to the game

got here when it was 23-16 or whatever. Nice job closing out the quarter by the Lakers with some stops and some good possessions.

I loved that move by Pau on Rasheed. Our offense looked like it was screwed that possession because Pau didn’t have great position and Boston was swarming covering all the cutters really well, then out of no where Pau blows by Rasheed for a dunk! Awesome!

Phil’s rotation was questionable which is telling of how important winning this game was to him. The Lakers will be fine. A 1 point loss with no Kobe? If I got anything out of this game its that the Celtics are definitely beatable.

Phil is probably allowing Fisher to find his rhythm, or whatever, which in time will (hopefully) prove more beneficial then the actual outcome of this one game?

I’m not saying that I like that Fisher played so minutes because I think that its time Farmar takes the brunt of the point guard minutes. I’m just showing you what (I think) Phil’s reasoning was behind playing Fisher so many minutes.

Phil is known for depending on the veterans and giving them minutes even though everyone questions why he does so. Its paid off for him the majority of the time, especially at a point when its mattered most.

No doubt about it though Fisher is old.

We had a lot of positives to take from this. Offense simply stalled down the stretch, which showed us why we value Kobe in that situation. It wasn’t a “big” or “important” game for us in the same vein as the previous Boston game, and if anything, it showed that our other players can step up in his absence.

Seriously?

i don’t know, maybe hit two clutch threes in game four of the Finals. Maybe provide Kobe with someone to confide in before we got Pau Gasol. Maybe an NBA veteran that provides leadership to the whole NBA (players association president) and his team.

He’s obviously not the quickest or the most talented but if you don’t see Fish’s contributions, you’re blind.

Fisher had the same deficiencies last year

He provides leadership and other off-court intangibles as well as more Finals experience that just about anyone else in the NBA as well as some of the most clutch shots in NBA history. He may or may not hit another “super clutch” shot in his career but he is clearly a threat and an asset.

Not a big loss though. We lost without Kobe freaking Bryant. We can definitely hang without the Kobster but we can’t beat an elite team without Kobe. I would be much more concerned if we lost with a full strength squad.

I was very impressed with Lamar. Solid game. Couple of monster jams. Very nice.

Plus, Cavs lost on their home court so it just proves everybody is mortal, especially without the best player in NBA history.

if we go by talent

but while necessary it takes more than talent to get to the finals. the lakers playing right now isn’t yet a championship team

I hope they don't

but i never know what to expect from anyone not named Kobe on this team. I try not to think about it and take it game by game.

i think a post should be put up with an analysis/observations/suggestions as to why phil won’t start other pgs over fisher

Loyalty…? Perhaps

Is more or less a pointless endeavor. Just go with the flow.

by chaucer on Feb 18, 2010 11:17 PM PST reply actions

ive qustioned phil many times before, but he always ends up looking like he does—like a champ. lol

the lakers played hard. i can sleep comfortably knowing that.

Fisher said he expected Boston to try and use its foul to give on last play. So he looked for contact instead of just shooting.

on a side note

I am currently goign to school in teh bay area and i know a couple of Warriors fans who hate fisher. I think he put it like this.. .“he thought he was Kobe”.

really fish? from a veteran?

how many times do the refs call foul in the final 2 seconds.

by Madz on Feb 18, 2010 11:32 PM PST up reply actions

(Facepalm)

Just shoot in that situation Fisher. You had enough separation. Catch and shoot.

The Lakers need to go 'fishing' for a new PG

Derek has to come off the bench. Farmar should start, pending a pickup of some sort off the waiver wire. Not because he’s earned it but because he’s playing better at this point.

I hate losing to Boston.
