Lakers-Celtics Open Thread
For Laker fans, it's so far been a day of disappointment. The team was this close to acquiring Marcus Banks, but Mitch Kupchak just couldn't pull the trigger on the blockbuster trade. Will whiffing on Banks haunt the Lakers in June? I fear the worst, my friends.
Blot out your dismay with alcohol upon any mention of:
- Nate Robinson,
- The Five-Buck Box (which, I am told, rocks),
- "Hand down, man down," LeBron James (by Doug Collins),
- Paul Pierce being one of the best shooters ever, or
- Antawn Jamison.
Go ahead. Pour out your feelings.

that is why I don't fear the sword
Lebron relies on going to the basket in the clutch but if that’s not available he will choke on the ft line and his outside shooting will not help him. his high FG % hides the fact that he has no outside shot because most of his points come in the paint.

Both they should run the offense through Gasol
he has a decent shot, He can drive and he is a great passer.
I gotta go with both but more on Gasol.
As intuitive said..coach can only do so much. I remember Shaq yelling to them to get him the ball. I thought he wouldn’t do that cause Kobe was in the game. But Kobe isn’t in the game today.

this is my third comment on fisher
Can anybody explain why fisher tries to drive, but then when he gets close to the rim he makes no attempt to put the ball in the basket and expects a foul. He has never gotten that call in his life. what is he doing.

Phil’s rotation was questionable which is telling of how important winning this game was to him. The Lakers will be fine. A 1 point loss with no Kobe? If I got anything out of this game its that the Celtics are definitely beatable.

why give fisher so much damn minutes???
"Just by the aura of D.J. Mbenga being there, the shot missed."
Phil is probably allowing Fisher to find his rhythm, or whatever, which in time will (hopefully) prove more beneficial then the actual outcome of this one game?

I’m not saying that I like that Fisher played so minutes because I think that its time Farmar takes the brunt of the point guard minutes. I’m just showing you what (I think) Phil’s reasoning was behind playing Fisher so many minutes.
"There is no substitute for hustle and if you don't hustle there will be a substitute." -Tex Winter
I understand what you're saying
but my point is, Fisher has shown us in over 1400 minutes played this season that he can’t do it anymore. Why insist on something that’s not working?

Phil is known for depending on the veterans and giving them minutes even though everyone questions why he does so. Its paid off for him the majority of the time, especially at a point when its mattered most.
No doubt about it though Fisher is old.

We had a lot of positives to take from this. Offense simply stalled down the stretch, which showed us why we value Kobe in that situation. It wasn’t a “big” or “important” game for us in the same vein as the previous Boston game, and if anything, it showed that our other players can step up in his absence.

but he doesnt hit his shots the rest of the game
makes no sense for phil to give him so much minutes in a big game
"Just by the aura of D.J. Mbenga being there, the shot missed."
And as was stated elsewhere...
We wouldn’t need those “clutch” shots if we had a good player instead of Fisher playing the 47 minutes before the end of the game.
On the World Champion Lakers Basketball Network...
if fisher could make his shots during the game,
we would never need clutch shots from him

Seriously?
i don’t know, maybe hit two clutch threes in game four of the Finals. Maybe provide Kobe with someone to confide in before we got Pau Gasol. Maybe an NBA veteran that provides leadership to the whole NBA (players association president) and his team.
He’s obviously not the quickest or the most talented but if you don’t see Fish’s contributions, you’re blind.

What does he do well NOW… i dont care about the other titles..I want the Lakers to win this year and not get trashed by ecery PG we face in the playoffs
Kobe isnt good, he's just better than your favorite player
Fisher had the same deficiencies last year
He provides leadership and other off-court intangibles as well as more Finals experience that just about anyone else in the NBA as well as some of the most clutch shots in NBA history. He may or may not hit another “super clutch” shot in his career but he is clearly a threat and an asset.

i respect fisher and im grateful
for all his contributions to this team. I wanna see him retire a laker but there’s nothing left in him that justifies his minutes
By that rationale
The Lakers should still be running James Worthy out there.

This sucks
Not a big loss though. We lost without Kobe freaking Bryant. We can definitely hang without the Kobster but we can’t beat an elite team without Kobe. I would be much more concerned if we lost with a full strength squad.
I was very impressed with Lamar. Solid game. Couple of monster jams. Very nice.
Plus, Cavs lost on their home court so it just proves everybody is mortal, especially without the best player in NBA history.

he’ll go through stretches where he runs until he reaches the 3 point line, and chuck up a wild 3. Sometimes Mo does that too. It drives Cavs fans crazy. Sorry Cleveland, but we’re not the Magic. We can’t make threes whenever we damn well please.
And Cleveland still makes a ridiculous percentage

Why do people care so much about Phil's substitutions
When it’s obvious he didn’t care that much about this game? His substitutions reflected that. He lets people play through whatever problems they’re going through. People should know this by now. The leash comes out in big games and the playoffs. He obviously didn’t think this was a big game.

Pau with Bynum when there is less than 5 seconds left and we need and we need someone to create. Bynum might be a black hole but he doesn’t shy away on the offensive end and will try to create for himself if needs be. He can easily get to the basket for alley oops.
