What will you do with Adam Morrison's contract if you are Mitch?Draft Picks?Trade?Or just let him walk away at the end of the season?

As the trade deadline is getting closer, many teams (especially contenders) are trying to find ways to boost their roster for the playoffs. Lakers also have an opportunity to boost their bench/roster because of Adam Morrison's expiring contract. (you can do a lot with his 5 million contract)

If I am the GM of the Lakers, I will do one of the following with his contract:

1) Trade him to GS for Ronny Turiaf. This trade is difficult to make but it is not impossible. The Warriors are not playing well. They are at the bottom of the league. They also have a lot of bad contracts and I am sure that they want to get rid some of the contracts to relief the salary cap. Ronny's contract is 3-4 years but not too expensive compare to AMMO's contract. (Let's say AMMO's contract is not expired after this season which contract will you prefer to take? Ronny or AMMO?) Ronny brings the energy and the heart to any team he plays for. Good thing about this trade is that he can take some minutes from Bynum/Gasol/Odom at the 4/5 spot in case they are in foul trouble. (no offense to Josh Powell and DJ. They work hard and know how to play, but I don't think Phil will play them as much as he plays Ronny.) Also, he knows the triangle offense and he played well with Luke and Farmar. He is a great influence on the defense end as well. (I remembered Bynum said that he was inspired by the way Ronny plays defense in 2008) Therefore, Ronny brings a lot of positive to the bench and Mitch should not hesitate if he has an opportunity to bring him back.

2) Trade AMMO for Yi Jianlian. I know a lot of people might think this is ridiculous. But let me explain why we should trade for him.  First of all, he can score buckets, shoot 3 pointers (just needs to be consistent that's all) which will help the bench a lot because what really hurts the Lakers is the 3-point shooting which is the reason why everyone wants to acquire a PG or SG to replace D-fish or Farmar. However, it will not help the team but breaks the team apart if we acquire another PG/SG because we already have a lot of guards. Stick with the guards that we have and sign Yi JianLian will help the team on spreading the floor. It will take time for him to learn the triangle offense that's for sure. There are several things that make him valuable to the Lakers 1) His contract is only around 3 million and it will expire after next season.  Therefore, if he is not able to deliever we can use his expire contract next season. 2) His size. He is around 6-10 to 7-0 (I don't know his actual height but he is another big body). Other teams will have to deal with a big guy who can take the ball to the basket and shoot long-range jumpers which opens up a lot of opportunities for the guards. He is a average defender but he has the potential to get better on that aspect because of his size and his willingness to play defense (in olympics 2008 he was guarding Dirk Nowitzki in the closing minutes with great success and China ended up beating Germany and advanced to the next round) As some people say, you cannot teach size and his size makes the Lakers a much bigger and stronger team. He has the potential to develop his skills and his versatilty reminds me of Toni Kukoc. I am sure Phil will play him more than AMMO if this trade becomes official. 3) Marketing purpose. As you know, the Chinese community is huge in LA and that also helps Lakers to develop business relations with China easily. Also, Yi JianLian will not have a problem living in California because he will see a lot of his people.

At the same time, bring back Coby Karl because he was waived by GS recently. Also he is not expensive and he is an insurance of PG problem and back-up SG if something happens to Shannon Brown and Kobe. I would rather have Coby Karl at the SG over "the Broken Machine".  I know a lot of people might think I am crazy because he did not play much when he was a Laker. However, he played with passion and a BRAIN when phil puts him on the floor. I remember he hit couple 3 pointers against Toronto in 2008 and brought the team back in the game. Also he is a willing passer, knows the triangle offense and a perfect fit for the offense. I know most of the people will prefer Kirk Hinrich because he is a proved back-up PG and a solid defender. However, it will take some time for him to learn the triangle offense and that will hurt the team during the playoffs. (everyone struggles with the triangle offense when they first joined the Lakers. eg. Trevor Ariza, Ron artest, Shannon Brown) Also, he has a 9 million contract which is not going to expire soon and that will hurt the Lakers' salary cap. Therefore, I would rather stay with the PG/SG that we have so far until the end of the season or bring someone back who is familiar with the team offense.

Sorry for the long post. But that just my thoughts. You are welcome to have your opinion because we all want to see if there's any potential to make the Lakers better.

If you are Mitch, what will you do with his contract before the trade deadline? If you want to make a trade, who will you trade for and why?

Lol you really think a team is a gonna trade a draft pick for morrison!? haha I’d be happy with that, but i dont think any team would be stupid enough to make the trade. Who knows crazier things have happened…if they do.. I will be convinced the Kupchak is a Jedi and is using his jedi mind tricks to manipulate other gms

In Kobe we trust!

You never know

Mitch only gave Kwame Brown and the rookie PG away in Pau’s trade. Last season he gave away Rad. for Shannon Brown. He also gave away Brian Book for Trevor Ariza. It seems that none of us will know what he will do next. Also, he kept everything under the radar everytime he was about to make a trade. So we will see.

Why would the Nets give up this guy?

If hes as good as you make him seem why would we get him for an expiring contract, or would we have to throw in a draft pick

Ronnie Turiaf's not going anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, I watch NBA League pass on a nightly basis [except Thur [TNT] ] and Turiaf is not going anywhere, the Warriors are not taking calls on this one. In the offseason after the finals lost to Boston, Mitch had a choice to make: re-sign Vujacic or Turiaf. Word is he went to Turiaf first, he wanted more money, so he got Vujacic before they both took off. Decisions, decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by GRICE on Feb 13, 2010 8:23 AM PST reply actions

As much as the Warriors have sucked over the past two years

it made sense for Turiaf to take the bigger contract and increased playing time. He knew with Gasol, Bynum & Odom, he would be buried on the bench. It’s just too bad that the investment to keep Vujacic hasn’t worked out.

No more raining on BN's rainy parade, they took their ball and went home, lmao.

adam a good guy but I feel he is headed to Italy next year he has already got his money and he will fine his shot there.

Will Mitch trade him away maybe to T-Wolves since Ramblis does like AM, you never know what is going bto happen in this league.

In a perfect world?

Draft picks.

In the real world? Let it come off the books and save the Lakers money. Honestly, they have enough of a rotation going right now. No reason to pay double in taxes for another 9th or 10th man that can only make the team marginally better at best.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

defenitely agree

just like Buss said, he will do something if he feels without a doubt it will help the Lakers win another title..but to add a player just to add a player and pay double…that’s bad business.

Ammo for Ronny???

no way in hell that happens
ronny is a quality big for Golden State off the bench…its a shame we had to let him go, sasha’s contract has been a total bust ever since and powell hasnt brought much to the table…oh well
Ammo will be off the team sooner or later, he just wont be given alone for another player. he will probably go with someone else and or/cash/draft pick if Mitch decides to make a move to upgrade the bench…

i would trade ammo + vujacic for kirk hindrich

already checked nba trade machine and it works. hindrich can guard a 1,2, and 3. he is a knockdown shooter and can play the 1 or 2. wont have to give up much…

Chicago wants to dump Hinrich

But they’re not dumping him for that offer.

Both of these trades are very unrealistic

Barring a “can’t miss” offer, I think Kupchak holds onto Morrison.

Trade Sasha Vujacic and Adam Morrison for Devin Harris. If its possible. Why? Younger quicker than Kirk plus he’ll fit perfect into the triangle offense

by 15xtimeNBAchamps on Feb 15, 2010 2:11 PM PST reply actions

its not

we would probably have to throw in farmar and/or shannon…

Considering how well Luke runs the triangle....

Trade him to Rambis in Minnesota with Ammo’s contract for Ryan Gomes, Nathan Jawai and cash. Other players can be thrown into this deal instead of Jawai (Wilkins, Tucker, Cardinal) to make it work but the main part of the deal in Luke, Ammo and Gomes.

I really like Gomes’ game and think he can fit really well into the Lakers triangle with his 3 point shooting and rebounding. The only question would be if the Wolves want to let him go, considering he has a 4 year contract. Luke would help the young players in Minnesota learn and run the triangle. Plus, they would get another expiring contract in Ammo, which would give them roughly 22 million in expiring contracts. Enough, to go out and get an expensive free agent if they wanted to. I think it helps both teams in the long run. Just not sure if the Wolves are willing to give up Gomes.

I woudl love to see Gomes hitting a dagger 3 pointer against the Celtics, considering they gave him up yo get KG. It would be awesome to see.
