Trading Bynum

I want to start by stating " I love Bynum" and for years I defended him, telling friends he is just young he's going to be dominant one day ,all that crap blah blah blah .But a discussion between friends came up and I just want to know fellow laker fans opinion. Would you trade Andrew Bynum for Josh Smith? and maybe marvin? I feel we have a team full of fire power and Josh smith is a very unselfish player a great defender and actice body? would you pull the trigger on that trade this year after watching the numbers pau is putting up this season? let me know laker nation

Josh Smith is considerably shorter than Bynum and less efficient in the paint

Plus when Bynum is healthy, we have such a great frontcourt, so I say no.

I say no to Josh Smith

I like Josh Smith, and he brings alot to a team with his defense. WIth that said, that means that Pau will be the center for our team, and we know that he doesnt like that too well. Really the only PF I would trade Bynum for is our L.A. friend, Blake Griffin. I know that wont happen, but its great to imagine! I did this trade on 2K11, simulated a season and the Lakers went 74-8….. Thats my fantasy, but in reality we are going to do great this year!!

No, as we've seen plainly in the last few games

Gasol is ill-equipped to be the primary source of interior defense and Josh Smith is definitely a dynamic defensive player but can’t provide the same presence on the interior that Bynum does.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

One of the reasons the Lakers are such a tough matchup for opposing teams is their size and I dont think I would mess with that. You saw in the playoffs that even a Bynum on one leg was enough to case trouble for teams. I think people may need to scale back what were once very lofty expectations of Bynum. He’s not the next Shaq or Kareem but he is a solid NBA center, much better than average for the position. I dont think he’s the next franchise player as some had predicted but thats ok. Considering how far he has come I think for a 10th pick he has done very well. He has had some unfortunate injuries early on but so did Ilgauskas when Cleveland drafted him back in the day. Once he got past that he’s been relatively injury free since. I see the same thing for Bynum once he gets past this latest injury.

Drew is a top 5 center and if you dont agree im sure he is a top 10 center hell i would takevhim over Brook Lopez..and Bogut who i feel are both overrated and product of there teams either being 1st or 2nd option or not many other options and put up comparable numbers to Bynum who plays on a championship team if Drew was the starting center for the Twolves, Cavs, Nets, Bobcats he would average probably like 24 and 11 with 2 blocks, its kind of hard playing with Kobe and Gasol, lol Gasol complains about touches from time to time and Bynum still puts up numbers…trust me despite injuries any gm in the league would love to get there hands on Bynum…

Would you trade Andrew Bynum for Josh Smith?

Nope. Centers, specially 7’0+ quality ones are a very rare commodity in any bball league, nba not excluded. The only trades acceptable for me would be for another center, say Marc Gasol and a couple of draft picks or Noah + filler. Trading for a small forward no matter how good he is ain’t happening on this team as the Lakeshow already have Artest, Barnes Ebanks and Walton.

by Danish78 on Nov 28, 2010 1:17 AM PST reply actions

The Bulls would never trade Noah for Bynum.

by sexsalad on Nov 28, 2010 8:21 AM PST up reply actions

Yup but...

This is all hypothetical though, and they should think about it- Imagine a frontline of Deng, Boozer and Bynum; then the Lakers have a nice defensive front of Gasol and Noah.

Anyways this was all discussed before in the trade Bynum threads a while back, there were a lot of interesting ideas back then. I wonder if any of them make more sense now?

by Danish78 on Nov 28, 2010 4:44 PM PST up reply actions

No!

But if you say Noah for Bynum then we can talk.

A little early isn't it?

We haven’t even seen him play yet this season.

Bynum aint going anywhere.

How bout we just give up Sasha and Walton for The Clippers 1st round draft pick…… LOL

Hell no

Drew is one of the best centers in the league when healthy. We haven’t seen him play in a while but don’t forget how good he can be. We saw it last year. Once he gets back and plays like he’s capable of, I guarantee you nobody will be wishing to trade him.

I love Bynum and he really gained a lot of respect from me the way he played through pain through the playoffs last year. You don’t give away a 7 foot center who is in his young 20s. Especially if that 7 foot center is one of the best centers in the league.

Even if we have not seen him play....

His Dfence is SORELY missed just check the last 2 games for example. And i beg to differ that we are not a “dominant” Defence no more cause the big boy is out. wait till A Bizzle comes back……Block Party! With him and Pau (back at PF, 7 footer not sheddin the load) together…..we dominate agian. and Josh Smith???? seriously?

OK How about Nene and Carmelo for Bynum and Luke Walton?

I'll only accept Bynum for Dwight Howard.

Tim Duncan wins championships. Vince Carters fills the arenas.
Kobe Bryant does both.
