Check #9. You won't like #1, but I have to admit, the C's will never have to change their unis. Their unis have a nice look at home, with the parquet and the green and white shirts in the stands. There's a sense of history and tradition. The Lakers have it too. The Knicks should, but they need to change their unis back to a more "classic" look. The best jerseys remain constant. How long until Minnesota changes their "too busy" look again? And why did Atlanta change from red, yellow, and sometimes black to that boring navy, red and white? Why doesn't Orlando use their original font on their new jerseys? When will OKC have a jersey not designed by a 5th grader? Maybe I'm wrong. Is it winning tradition that makes the jersey seem better than it is?

Pau cleared to play by Gary Vitti
The Lakers head trainer, Gary Vitti, recently visited Pau Gasol (finger) in Spain and cleared him to resume playing basketball.
Gasol is expected to play in Spain’s final game before the European Championships, against Lithuania on Thursday. It doesn’t sound like there’s any way this injury will affect him during the regular season.
u should’ve kept him from playing, he’s more important to our championship aspirations than to spain’s.
Not that Gasol helped much...
The Spanish team was upset by Serbia 66-57.
Pau shot a miserable 4 from 10 for 9 puntos and hit one for 8 from the free-throw.
Hopefully it’s just because he’s coming back from surgery that’s why he’s sluggish and shot poorly.

Kobe hangs out a lot in Irvine these days
He’s usually working out at UCI
my coworkers saw him at the Trader Joe’s near UCI.
it’s a pity I keep missing him.
I live like 10 minutes away from Irvine Spectrum.
The gods do not want me to meet Kobe :(

IMO
The Lakers have the best looking jerseys. I like their sunday whites a little more than that traditional gold (home) and forum blue (road).
But I’ll admit the Boston jerseys are also good uniforms.
Chicago’s deep red is really nice.
Detroit’s home jerseys of red/white/blue is nice too.
But Golden State’s throwback jersey is hideous. In fact, most throwback jerseys are really ugly. I don’t know how anyone thinks wearing the golden state bridge on the front and a cable car in the back in an ugly shade of blue is retro-cool. Just like the Wizard’s ugly american flag uniform. The american flag itself is pretty, but on a uniform? noop.
And there’s no way Cleveland’s red and wine jersey should be in the top 3. That stupid feather logo below the words “Cleveland” is ugly as hell.
Orlando’s pinstripes should be on that list. It’s a solid classic look. Won’t ever go out of style.
I used to like the Rocket’s pinstripe look too. Seattle Supersonic uniforms were fun in the 90s too. 76ers have a really cool logo. Hornets have a creative logo/jersey combo too.
T-Wolves, OKC have probably the most hideous jersey logo combo of all time.

I agree about Orlando.
They had nice ones. I don’t know why they changed them. They change their jerseys like Pitino’s Kentucky teams. The unis they have now are nice, but the font has to go. It’s generic, and it will be even more generic this season because Charlotte copied them.
I never like the old GS jerseys either, nor the current ones.
Cleveland’s feather jersey is hideous. They were better than the light blue lightning bolts they had in the 90’s though. Not crazy about the new ones either.
I think the Rockets should re-do their jerseys. They look to awkard. I don’t t like the new one, but the old ones (80’s and 90’s) were dated and the Barkley years / early Yao years were terrible.. They should find way to incorporate their old “Houston” with the new logo, and include yellow again.
Detroit just needs a better logo.
I like the Mavs green alternate jerseys.
The Jazz unis are generic for their name. They need to change their name. Jazz and mountains have nothing to do with each other.
The Bucks should have an updated version of their 80’s unis.
Sacramento has nice jerseys, they just need t lose the simple looking font. It looks like a high school kid was bored in class and drew that. It should be regal.
The Suns are wearing WNBA uniforms.
Indiana’s generic, but okay. They need an original font.
I can’t say anything about Philly yet, until I see the updated ones.
Minnesota’s are too busy and awkward under the arms.
I think the Wizards are a stupid name and stupid logo.
Atlanta should just change their colors back to red, yellow and black.
OKC is just waiting to slam the customers in a couple of years and make even more money in merchandise.
Miami (although the bit the Lakers twice now), Toronto, New Orleans, San Antonio, Boston, Denver, Chicago, Portland, and the Lakers are all fine.
that article is just another example of kelly dwyer’s celtic bias, they have nice jerseys but not number one. Definately not better than the purple and gold haha
In Kobe we trust!
I was just about to read that link then you said Kelly Dwyer so I'll pass
Lakers have the best jerseys and the Celtics jerseys are second to me. The Sasha Parody video is funny, great links.

I wouldn't put the C's at #1, but I can see his point.
They have lasted through time. As bland and simple as they are, there is something that looks good about them. Especially at home.
The Laker uniform is a classic, hands down the best in the league. The way the ‘Laker’ font meshes with the numbers is classic. (I do miss the old-school drop-shadow on the numbers, though) That said, I would buy someone saying the Bulls have the best uniforms, and the Pistons’s revival of their Bad Boy era colors is nice. The Celtic uniform is not #1 – it’s just too vanilla. Yes, it’s better than 75% of other teams, but that’s not saying much. There’s nothing to it that’s distinctive – and nothing of interest, design-wise. Even the Spurs have the cool stylized U on their wordmark.
Poor sasha, it sounds like they made him do slave labor. Running? who makes the machine run! the machine doesnt run! he just spots up and shoots.
The only way he can get from one end of the court to the other is to rely on the life force of whoever he is defending! thats why he always full courts press! he cant run! lol

David Kahn’s Timberwolves have four picks in the NBA draft.
AP
Minnesota Timberwolves president David Kahn joined the show to discuss Ricky Rubio’s decision to stay in Spain and not join the T’Wolves yet.
“Anybody who’s ever had teenagers, there are twists and turns,” Kahn said.
Kahn, however, explained that nothing about the way this played out surprised him. Kahn said at first that he didn’t think Rubio would even consider coming over so soon. Kahn knew he’d come over eventually, but he didn’t expect him immediately. Kahn said he had heard Rubio would only come over if he was a top-two pick.
“He started to send us some signals during the summer that he was interested in accelerating that path,” Kahn said.
The plan is that he will be in Spain for two years and then join the Timberwolves.
Dan asked Kahn if he would do that pick over again. “Absolutely, he’s 18,” Kahn said. “Two years from now he’s 20 and his whole career is still in front of him.”
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/danpatrick/blog/75702/index.html
Rubio will never be a Timberwolf. So, all David Kahn do was stop other teams from having him for 2 years. What a waste. Very smart, David.
*Shrug*
I think it was a consequence of his draft position more than anything else; I don’t believe playing for Minnesota was that big of a turnoff as far as Rubio was concerned. Money talks though, and the inadequacy of a fifth pick’s salary was the problem. The situation would have been largely the same if Washington had kept their pick and tried to draft Rubio. This also might force Rubio to stay longer in Spain, as he won’t be bound by the rookie salary scale if he comes back in 2012. In both 2011 and 2012, he has a one million euro buyout, and it’s going to be hell of a lot more palatable to eat that on a $6-7 million salary than a $3.5 million salary.
As far as Kahn is concerned, I don’t begrudge him for drafting Rubio — it was a no-brainer with two consecutive lottery picks. Even if Rubio doesn’t come over, Minnesota is going to perennially hold his rights and wasn’t going anywhere this year. The only sticking point I have is that Curry was more of the scoring punch that Minnesota needed from the backcourt, and Curry could potentially play the off-guard. I think Flynn will be solid, but Curry has the chance to be special.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Show us what Kahn should have done
You haven’t thought about this for more than a second.
Any team was going to have a tough time bringing Rubio immediately; he had a huge buyout amount (the largest in European history) and the CBA prevented teams kicking in more than $500,000 toward it. The teams above #5 in the draft had slightly larger salary slots, but they passed on him due to the buyout situation.
Immediately after the draft Kahn said simply that the Wolves, of all teams, were in a position to wait. That’s how Rubio fell as far as he did.
So what, then, was Kahn meant to do? He couldn’t re-do the earlier draft to pick Rubio higher and afford more salary under the rookie scale. Dealing Rubio to a bigger market for more endorsements made no sense; in any case Kahn lined up enough money in negotiations that the endorsement thing turned out to be a red herring. Passing on the kid twice at #5 and #6 wouldn’t have made the teams below that able to handle the buyout any better.
What is it you think he should have done?
He could've actually taken a player that could help the team.
The Timberwolves are in no position to draft players and hope they’ll play in 2-3 years. They need help now.
It’s very simple. Don’t draft him. I don’t have to think about it for more than a second.
That Kobe championship series footage is downright amazing.
Can’t wait for the rest to come out.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Farmar wants to be a starter on either the Lakers or another team.
“I want to run a team and be the lead guard,” Farmar said Tuesday on the sidelines of a basketball clinic in Singapore. “Hopefully, it can be here (with the Lakers).”
“There’s a lot of jobs out there. I feel I have a lot to offer.”
The 22-year-old Farmar averaged 6.4 points and 2.4 assists in 65 regular-season games last season as the Lakers won their 15th championship. Farmar, who will be entering his fourth year with the Lakers, saw his playing time drop last season to an average of 18.3 minutes per game from 20.6 the previous season.

I like that Jordie's a gym rat
but I don’t think he’ll be the Lakers’ future starting PG.
His court vision is still really limited. He doesn’t see the pass that will lead to the pass that scores the bucket. He chucks too much. He can’t defend. Needs to bulk up some more … granted he’s still young and is very confident of himself … I just don’t see him as a starting PG.
Hopefully though, he’ll improve this season. But I’m crossing my fingers for Shannon. I like his game much more than Jordie’s. Even though Shannon wasn’t familiar with the offense, he seemed to know his role much better than Sasha or Jordie. Then again, Jordie did start well that one game against the Rockets when D-Fish was suspended. And overall, he had a good series against Houston.
I’ll give him half a season this year before I completely write him off as our future starting PG.

Farmar is probably better fitted in a different offense. I don’t think he enjoys the role the point guard has to take on in the triangle offense.
I think he wants to be an Allen Iverson type of a PG
Not a Deron Williams or even a Chris Paul type.
I get the feeling that he kinda wants to be in the run and gun type of offense, so maybe not a AI type of a PG but more of a Steven Nash PG, but even then, he’s not even close. He still needs to work on his dribbling and court vision. He’s not even that good of a shooter and when he goes up for a layup, he just kinda throws it up and hopes it’ll go in (which is different than TA’s which is recklessly slashing, but he usually makes it). But I guess he’ll have one thing in common with Nash and that’s no D.

Shannon Brown sure did better than expected. He did well against Billups & I think Deron Williams, I still wonder why Phil didn’t try him to check the faster guards (Arron Brooks, Tony Parker types). But hopefully he’ll get even better as he plays more.
I fear Jordon will always be a backup at point for the Lakers.

What I like about Shannon is ...
Despite whatever lack of offensive talent he has, (he’s really just good for Catch and Shoot 3’s and monster dunks), I think at least, he tries to learn the offense.
My problem with Jordie is that sometimes he thinks he’s better than the triangle offense, hence why the bench mob plays a different style than the starters. They’re always pushing the offense, which I suppose is good, it’ll throw off the opponents with the starters playing it slow and the bench running and gunning, but when the shots aren’t falling, our bench then, loses the big lead because their collective defense sucks and they just keep chucking. As PG of that group, Jordie has a large responsibility in making sure the ball still gets to the bigs and not let it be a 3-point contest between him and Sasha.
It’s also why I think our bench players work better when they’re played with the starters. If say Kobe, Sasha, Pau, LO, and Ron/Luke are on the court, it’ll probably utilize sasha much better than say the Sasha, Jordie, Luke, Josh, Drew lineup. That lineup is just fails.
Like everyone has said, the triangle PG is not the traditional PG, which means the triangle PG must know his role in the triangle. Shannon knows his role. Jordie still doesn’t. Which is why I think Shannon will probably succeed better as either the backup PG role to Fish or as a hybrid PG/SG starter with Kobe.
Still, having two backup PGs (that play two very different styles) is good insurance.

Shannon probably didn’t get as much time on the court because he was still relatively new to the triangle offense. That’s what I think anyway.
If Shannon pans out I doubt Mitch would re-sign Farmar. I’m not sure, but there are better point guards out there than Farmar. I just don’t think the triangle offense suits him. For some players like Trevor and Shannon the triangle offense really helps them out, and for others they never really find their niche like Radmanovic.
I hear what you’re saying about Jordan but to me his offense is secondary to his defense. We need someone who can help slow small quick PGs (Tony Parker, Arron Brooks types). Shannon did a good job against Billups & Deron Williams – bigger type PGs – but Phil didn’t really try him on Brooks that I could remember. And the quicker guards seem to blow right by Jordan. And Jordan is too small/light for the bug PGs.

Farmer need to work and if he shows up this season then I’ll consider him over Shannon but if he doesn’t then he can forget starting for anyone. So the spotlight is on Farmer, we do need him to have an impact this season.

Two things required that Fish does not have
Any point guard on this current Laker roster does not have to be a traditional PG, meaning to be a good passer and to be able to penetrate the paint. The triangle doesn’t require that type of PG. But it does require:
1) A good defender which he isn’t
2) A player who is calm and can hit when he is open which he doesn’t do.

Lakers Long shot
Gaffney has a deal in place with Gilboa Galil in Israel but has his heart set on making an impression on the Lakers coaching staff
and sticking with the defending champions based on his athleticism, hustle and energy.
“I don’t believe in the word complacent” Gaffney told HOOPSWORLD. “My entire life I have had to earn everything I have gotten and this is no different. I’m looking, again, to be the hardest worker out there. I’m trying to prove to those coaches that I can help them this year.”
“I’m going in there with the animal mentality that I have and, if I don’t make it, I’m going to die trying,” Gaffney said of his camp invite. “I have been working vigorously on my jump shot. That was the big thing they said I needed to have to make the team. They loved everything else. For the last month and a half I have shot more jump shots than I ever have in my life. If I don’t make it, it won’t be because I’m not shooting the ball well. It is something I am looking forward to. I’m looking forward to the challenge. I know it’s not going to be easy going to play with the defending world champs, but at the same time I’m ready for the challenge.”

a less refined Ariza perhaps?
I just read this. Thnx for posting it.
Originally I placed a Fan Post of him being envited to try out and the majority of people in here chewed my head off for even suggesting that he was going to be a Laker. I hope this guy makes the team. My favorite part of the above article is the following:
The life-long Celtics fan is optimistic that he will be able to put childhood allegiances aside and use hustle, ability to defend both the post and the perimeter, awareness and timing to lock down a spot with the Lakers, his new favorite team.
“The second I got the call from (the Lakers), the day after the draft, I immediately turned into a die-hard Lakers fan,” Gaffney said. “I put the Boston Celtics behind me and now I’m ready to beat the Boston Celtics with everything I’ve got. As of right now I’m a Laker and I love wearing purple and gold.”

There's just no room for him.
We’re set, and there is no point in paying (and paying Lux tax) for a guy guaranteed to see no PT. Why do you think Sun Yue was cut.
But thats the thing, what if he can demand playing time over the bunch of slackers we have on our bench
My one problem is that he’s too skinney but I’m not happy about what the bench did last season, Lakers will need them consistantly this year to repeat and I feel the Lakers need someone like him along with Lamar coming off the bench. They are giving him a shot so hopefully he does something with it.

This is where the business of sport comes into play.
The chances of a him even getting a shot over well paid guys are slim to none. Especially on the defending World Champs. I’m all for success stories, but the chances of a 2nd Round pick with his background aren’t too great. If he could beat out someone for PT on this team, then we should not be happy. That would be a bad thing. If you know what I mean.

I like our chances.
We have Farmar in a contract year. One thing I can credit him for is he responds to challenge and competition. We also have Sasha looking to redeem himself, Artest looking to continue his transformation, Shannon Brown coming back knowing he is vital to Championship team (he can make a lot more in his next contract by playing well), Bynum looking to gain his form back, the soft tag label / monkey of the backs of Pau and LO, and the redemption of Kobe.
All signs point to no slacking off.

I would be happy
because if the Lakers are Champs and he beats out someone for playing time that just means the Lakers got better. Not sure how that is a bad thing.
Not trying to be a smart ass but when Ariza beat out Luke did you think to yourself “poor Luke” or were you happier because the Lakers became better and won a title because of it?
You just never know. I say give him a chance.

What I mean is
if Gaffney beats one of them out, it most likely means that they are under performing. Not Gaffney over achieving. There is too much on the line for the guys on the bench (save for LO) for this to happen. We’re talking about a guy who didn’t start for a very mediocre team until his senior year? Not knocking Gaffney at all, but if he beats them out, then I’m worried.
I think a lot of people could of said the same thing about Ariza and S. Brown until someone gave them a shot. Personally, I could care less about the money side of things. I will leave that up to the Buss family. I have no clue about that. BUT! from a fan’s point of view this guy looks like he hustles and if there is a roster open for him then why not? It’s not going to cost me anything.

Well maybe that is EXACTLY why he was cut. Maybe they thought they needed room for someone else who actually might get to play. Just a theory.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny
If he was worth it
the Lakers would of found a way to pay him.

I know that.
I didn’t mention Yue worth. Only that the Lakers cut him to save money because he had no future.
Wasn't his lack of overall commitment an issue?
Namely his refusal to play in summer league this year and last and the fact that he balked at going to the D-League for half the year until he was finally convinced to go. I think Kupchak didn’t appreciate it, and it’s not exactly endearing for a project to blow off their team in consecutive summers and half a NBA season because he thought himself above it.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
I think Yue was okay with going into the D-League during the season. You might think he balked at it, but it wasn’t that. The hold up was because Kupchak had to get permission from China to allow Yue to be sent down to the D-League. It was a “trying to keep the mutual respect going” kind of thing with China and the Lakers if that makes any sense.
Mich probably cut him because Sun refused to play in summer league instead opting to play and practice with the Chinese national team.
Hmm
I always thought Yue was backing his Chinese supporters as far as going to the D-League was concerned, but I could be wrong.
As wondahbap pointed out though, he has no real future on this team. His development last year was practically nonexistent, and the ability level he demonstrated in limited minutes was less-than-impressive to say the least. With three point guards and a lot of wing depth, there wasn’t going to be a lot of minutes for him next year anyways.

I like Gaffney, it is a long shot but I'd think he help our bench mob
1 more player can’t hurt, he ain’t gonna get much money either but it would be nice to see if he could be a extra bench piece of consistancy that the Lakers need. So I hope they give him a chance, I’m pulling for him. Good post intuitive.

I agree.

More a potential Josh Powell replacement
Gaffney was a pretty solid all-around defender on the college level, and per the article, if he can hit a 15-20 footer with consistency, that makes him immediately useful. The difference between the two is that Powell is significantly stronger and bigger, and can handle some minutes at the five in the pinch whereas Gaffney is undersized for the four at 6’8’’ and a thin frame, but I’d imagine that he’d be a better P&R defender because he can move his feet extremely well and has great awareness of his defensive role.
In the end, if the coaching staff likes Gaffney better during training camp, they’ll offer him a contract and waive Powell, who is making $959,111 next year, meaning it be a negligible salary hit for the Lakers to waive him. Given Powell’s knowledge of the system and his decent minutes last year, it will take quite the effort by Gaffney to get a spot over him.

I think Powell played very well in the mintues he got.
He’s not a great rebounder, nor is he that good around the rim, but he can hit the mid range. He hit some very crucial shots in some big games this past year.
The Lakers already have 13 guys under contract and they’re deep in the Lux already. I just don’t see them adding another. Especially if the player isn’t going to play. If someone is going to get minutes to prove themselves, shouldn’t it be Morrison? We have to find some sucker to take his contract. Right?
shouldn't the guy that threw the beer be making amends with Ron?
His drunken behavior was the most significant trigger of all the events.

What About Sheed
I haven’t seen no where near as many articles or discussion about the gamble that the Celtics are taking with Sheed. Since 2005 the following season after the Melee in Detroit:
05-06: Artest had 2 Techs and Sheed 19 (ranked 1st)
06-07: Artest had 1 Tech and Sheed 21 (ranked 1st)
07-08: Artest had 8 Techs and Sheed 12 (ranked 3rd)
08-09: Artest had 4 Techs and Sheed 19 (ranked 1st)
In only 1 of those seasons Artest ranked only 23rd while not even being in the top 50 the other 3 seasons. Yeah! I’m really worried about Artest imploding. Let’s give that “he’s a gamble” idea that the media is trying to shove down our throats a rest. He is crazy but I would take him over Sheed any day.

BTW..
Guess who ranked 1st in 07-08? The man himself Kobe Bryant with a whopping 15! Just thought that was interesting.

The rest of the League is praying Artest is a disruption.
Sheed will always have that 2004 trophy as a trump card. Artest doesn’t have that luxury.
Of course they are and I have a feeling all players acquired this year for every team will work out and
the Lakers will still beat them.

As far as our point guard situation goes
It obviously will come down to who performs better, but Brown has already shown that he’s willing to conform to the system and accept his role as a set-shooter, occasional slasher, and versatile defender. Farmar certainly has more talent, but as glaringly demonstrated last year, he needs to achieve the same level of conformity to the system that Brown was able to show late in the season last year.
I could see it cutting both ways. Brown is more the type of guard Phil likes because he’s big for a point guard, can potentially guard both backcourt positions, and knows and appreciates his role. Farmar, on the other hand, is in a contract year, so that might bring out the best in him.
In the end, it’s always good to have some competition, especially early in the season, to keep players on edge. I think whoever comes out of the Brown-Farmar competition will be better off for it by the time we hit the playoffs.

I mean this with sarcasm, Yeah! i'm worried about Artest being a distraction.
O.C. Register: All I can say is thank goodness for Ron Artest. He quickly has become the eyes and ears of Lakers fans via Twitter.
He reported Thursday that he arrived at the gym early, early in the morning for a hard workout, but once inside, he discovered he wasn’t alone.
"3rd workout done. Let me tell why I LOVE KOBE "JELLY BEAN"BRYANT! I Get to the gym at 6:45,the Black Mamba gets there at 5:30! Go Lakers!!!"
Apparenlty Bryant, too, is eager for the season. Aren’t we all?
