Ariza On The Way Out?
According to ESPN.com, the Lakers are unwilling to pay Ariza more than the $5.6 million mid-level exception, a number that falls well short of the $8-9 million he's looking for. I think it's clear that LA has prioritized Odom over Ariza.

The press enterprise article makes it out even worse.........
It seems Trevor is leaving us. I think his (or his agent’s) attitude is a little naive. “Why won’t you pay 9 million for a guy everyone else will pay 5.6 million for”? If he takes a MLE from elsewhere instead of a MLE from the Lakers then screw him, he doesn’t deserve the Lakers.
On another note the article (or the one from PE) says that Cleveland is pursuing him hard. If Cleveland is pursuing him hard and gets him, and Ron Artest wants to play for Cleveland or LA???? Well you get the point. It think RonRon’s window in Cleveland is closing fast. I love Ariza, but I think Odom and Artest > Odom and Ariza.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny
I'd rather have Ariza than Artest
Age being the biggest reason, but I’d rather have Artest at $5.6 mil as opposed to Ariza at $8-9 million.

Yes, if Ariza wants to sign for the same amount on a different team; go on ahead. If Ron-ron and Odom are on the same team (Lakers) I’d love to see Tes-tes back down Ariza.
Must be agent fodder
Trevor will discover that his developmental parents are here with the Lakers. I always thought that 2 of 3 are more realistic. Shannon Brown and either LO or TA. Though LBJ is not a bad replacement, the Mamba always commands the double team that freed TA up. Maybe he will watch like Vlad or Ronnie from the TV set when we challenge for the Gold Ball.
People from Walter Herman, Matt Barnes are good cheaper options.
If the Nate Robinson for Sasha pushes through. And maybe a Rudy F for Jordan Farmar trade can materialize?
Sign SB and LO and maybe a Matt Barnes and you have:
Robinson-Bryant-Barnes-Gasol-Bynum (1st unit)
Fisher-Brown-Fernandez-Walton-Odom (2nd unit)
Mbenga-Powell
Though I really hope we sign TA-LO-SB.
We need Ariza ...
and I think Trevor should be handled more carefully by the front office. He just wants alittle more than mid level, Mitch needs to tread carefully here. Ariza (to me) was the difference this year.
This is agent generated PR
I really liked this part:
Cleveland is making a hard push for Ariza, and the Cavaliers’ coaching staff was speaking with him on Wednesday. While Cleveland can only offer the mid-level as well, Ariza’s disappointment with the Lakers’ stance has moved other suitors ahead of his current team.
The Rockets, Clippers, Raptors and Blazers are also showing interest in Ariza. Portland and Toronto could each offer more than the mid-level exception.
If the Lakers refuse to increase their offer, it’s a clear indication that they are choosing their other big free agent forward, Lamar Odom, over the younger Ariza.
Could this be any more obvious than as agent generated hype?

the whole bit, correctly this time:

I see ...
the propaganda here. Just hope Ariza see’s the light. Call’s his agent: " Man, I don’t want to play this game, call up Mitch"

Broussard and ESPN are even more ridiculou than Lee
Does he really think Ariza would chose cleveland over the lakers?
Broussard
is just hoping they can sign a player like Ariza away from the Lakers. Broussard is LeBron’s biggest fan, and the notion that Ariza would take a deal with the Cavs for the same amount of money being offered by the Lakers is just laughable.

He is.
“I had a long conversation with Mitch, and I don’t think it’s going anywhere,” agent David Lee said. “I think I’m being optimistic when I say it’s not going anywhere.”
He is way over valuing Ariza. and what’s “I think I’m being optimistic when I say it’s not going anywhere.” supposed to mean. Meh
http://blogs.pe.com/prosports/2009/07/ariza-contract-talks-not-going.html
Well, I think what he might mean is that the two sides are still deadlocked,
which is better than the negotiations completely falling apart. Just bluster, that’s all.
Seriously.
Uhm, does that genius David Lee realize who the Cavs currently have at small forward? The minute I heard these rumors I thought it was just agent talk, and the more I read the more I believe that. I think Ariza wants to stay with the Lakers, and there’s no way in hell he would go to Cleveland for the MLE if the Lakers are offering the same thing.

This is all despite the fact that Cleveland needs a PF more than a SF,
since Varejao is looking for a payday. Ha.
This is what Mitch should be doing, good for him.
The unwillingness of the Lakers to yield to Trevor Ariza’s contract demands reflects their belief that deep-pocketed suitors for Ariza won’t materialize in this economic slump.
With Detroit having reportedly agreed to terms with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva, Memphis trading for Clippers forward Zach Randolph and Portland and Toronto reportedly pursuing Hedo Turkoglu, the number of teams with salary cap space to offer Ariza a big payday is dwindling fast.
A Lakers source speaking on the condition of anonymity said the offers Ariza has received from other teams are for the $5.6 million mid-level exception.
The Lakers are willing to match the other offers on the table for Ariza, according to the source, but they’re not going to overpay simply because it’s their own player.
I understand the Lakers Position but you gotta show the man some LOVE I would feel like Ariza also
so I understand both sides and it’s business but don’t you want to win? every year, whats people’s issue??
There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.
like all other types of shopping, it's trying to get the most bang for your buck.
i’m pretty sure Mitch and every other laker wants to sign him, but 8-9 mil is pretty much a rip off. even without this economy, i highly doubt any other team would be willing to pay that much.
I agree with this.
I seriously doubt teams are going to be able offer Ariza $8-9 million a year. And if they are, then fine. The day after the Lakers won the championship, ESPN analyst Tim Legler said that he would keep Odom if he had to choose, because guys like Ariza are easier to find, while Lamar is a special talent. I completely agree. Trevor is young and still has a long ways to develop before he becomes a player that should be making $9 million a year.

Yes I just watch the video and I almost fainted
I just was so happy and unfazed by free agency and thought Lakers would be stupid not to sign Lamar and Trevor so now am alittle SHOCKED by the news and I hope…really HOPE it’s not true and Kobe gets the news and make the Lakers sign Trevor.

he’s stupid if he goes to cleveland for the same amount of money. he’ll be a traitor. he’s hurt? he was a little bird with broken wings. the lakers took him under their care, fed him, made him better, took him on the highest possible flight, offer him a home, and he is offended? what does he want, keys to the city? now that he’s all better, he wants to fly away…to cleveland of all places?
i wouldn't criticize ariza
it seems like it’s his agent making the big fuss. afterall bigger client pay = more pay for himself
on LA Times blog
AK,
i get your point. but remember ALL those comments about trevor being immature? this sounds like that trevor.
i do believe he will go. and to tell you the truth i don’t care. just because his agent makes me dislike trevor.
i liked trevor. but his agent is so annoying that the lakers might not sign trevor just because the agent has horrible tactics.
an agent is an agent, but this guy is just pathetic.

i don’t like his agent either. a player has the right to shut his agent’s mouth. especially if it will hurt his chances of remaining with a club. i also think the lakers are prioritizing odom.
K brothers have it covered

Look, don’t get me wrong. There’s certainly a chance that Team Ariza and Team Buss are planning a trip to Impasse County. But there’s also a chance- my gut says a better one- that we’re getting another taste of how Lee operates: Lots of public complaints and barely veiled threats. Little in the way of clients leaving their most recent employers. Maybe I’m under-thinking this, but most of these scenarios floated around strike me as either unrealistic, undesirable or both.
All of this is just talk.
In this economy, I just don’t buy all of this talk.

some sense into his agent.

Probably right.
Also, will God be mad because I called Him by His first name?

I know that
Ariza is a shy guy and really doesn’t talk much, so it’s hard to get a good read on him, but he doesn’t seem like the type of guy that would play hardball like this. Once again, I think this is all about his agent.
oooookkkkkkkk
ok im a little anxious now. i shall try to go to sleep and when i wake up i want to the following to have happened:
1. signed and traded trevor ariza and sasha to minnesotta for rights to ricky rubio
2. resigned lamar odom
3. signed ron artest
Ariza and Sasha for Rubio?
lol, no. Kahn isn’t Isiah. Hell, I’m not sure Isiah would be stupid enough to do that.
i would not mind seeing ariza go
don’t get me wrong. i love the guy and really wish he stays. but if the lakers had to chose between ariza and odom, i would rather keep odom. what clear advantage does ariza have over odom? non except age. but when taking age into account, remember that this is a team that wants to win NOW, not in 2-4 years, so age is not an issue. that’s why the cavs got shaq (37), the magic got carter (32) and the celtics want sheed (35). those guys are proven players who can help them win NOW and not in the future. odom is a proven player that can help us win NOW. if ariza leaves, a player like grant hill will be more than willing to sign for the minimum
