Lakers vs Magic Game 1: 4th Quarter Thread

Goodness gracious sakes alive Kobe Bryant.  36 points through three quarters?  And a 24 point lead?  If you are going to continue to one up yourself, the league is going to change its rules to make your shot count for 1/2 point.  I don't want to say this game is over becuase the Magic's threes could start falling at any moment.  However, with Kobe on the floor let;s face it...it's over.  Somewhere LeBron is saying "pshhhhh, I could do that."  Sure you could Bron-Bron, just turn the volume up and watch Kobe doin' work, the live edition.

Go Purple & Gold!

Maybe not great but we must remember how good KB is.

I feel bad for Pietrus and Lee honestly. Goin from LBJ to KB…that’s not fair

Pietrus was good at forcing Lebron to take jumpshots

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 8:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pietrus is really overrated on the whole, though. He’s not really good at any part of offense… mediocre shooter, inefficient scorer, poor passer…

I just started cracking up

not trying to be a troll, but there are legitimate arguments for LeBron as MVP and best player. He had one of the greatest series of all time in the last round.

Kobe lost the last six years… LeBron’s teammates were epically bad. Zydrunas guarding Dwight? That’s unfair.

by Cablinasian on Jun 4, 2009 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

what do you base that on? LeBron had one of the greatest playoff PERs ever. he couldn’t account for his horrible teammates.

Could Kobe help with interior defense? That’s a tough argument to make.

by Cablinasian on Jun 4, 2009 8:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

LeBron averaged a near triple-double with almost 40 points. He couldn’t account for Zydrunas guarding Dwight, Delonte West guarding Hedo, and the complete lack of shooting from the Cavalier perimeter players.

Because the media is stupid? Orlando has beaten Cleveland the majority of times they’ve played in the last four or five years.

They played poorly, I didn’t say they were bad players. It’s hard to win when your teammates shoot below 40%.

Of course there’s going to be an argument. Before Lebron there was Kobe vs Tmac. Kobe vs Vince, and yet Kobe’s still in the conversation. That says something

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

LeBron ain’t T-Mac or Vince.

I know but TMac and Vince looked very good when they were on top of their games. The conversation was Kobe vs this guy Kobe vs that guy, his ability to stay in the conversation of best player in the league through 13 seasons says something about his game

Regarding the MVP award, It’s “MVP of the regular season”, not “MVP of the playoffs”. So it’s not “all that matters”. In fact, it’s the opposite.

Regarding the “best player” claim… dunno. :)

huh? Jordan’s second man was Orlando Woolridge, and he had a Herculean effort to nearly beat one of the best teams of all time in the ’86 Celtics. He also ended up winning six titles. That seems to say LeBron has a good chance in the future.

i can tell you one thing, another blowout game like this in gm2 and magic and co. will have seriously deflated morale. plus being the best road team in the league gives the edge to the lakers as well.

Magic were 2nd best road team in the league. Some shots for the Magic that usually go in didn’t go in tonight. Call it good defense call it missed shots. Either way I’ll take it.

If we can play with this much focus throughout the whole series there is no way we lose.

In light of the team's final trip up north for the season. I thought we go down memory lane to look back at a classic game against the Warriors in Oakland. The day was April 20, 1999, yes the day of Columbine Massacre. Also, has anyone noticed that we have had a lot of classic games against the Warriors even though we have always assembled better teams than they did.?

Heres a new mix I made.

Kobe hasnt always been known as a clutch player. In game 5 of the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals, he missed a shot to win the game in the 4th quarter and 2 three-pointers to tie the game in the last minute of overtime, all of the shots being airballs. With that the Utah Jazz ended the playoffs for the Lakers in the 2nd round. Shaquille O'Neal commented years later that "Kobe was the only guy who had the guts at the time to take shots like that."

Ever since that horrible experience in his rookie year, Kobe has worked harder and has learned how to make those shots with the game on the line. This vid features some lines from Carmelo Anthony's Become Legendary commercial as well as some of Kobe's recent gamewinners.

Enjoy!
Kobe Game Winner vs Raptors - Whoa, I watched this and then I read the comments on Youtube claiming Kobe travelled, which I had not heard of. I also think there's no way a ref catches that in real time, and even if they do, they can't be sure enough to call it then, either.
