Lakers vs Magic Game 1: Pre-Game and 1st Quarter Thread

It's finally time.  Everything is a bit hectic right now, so on behalf of my fellow authors I apologize for the lack of commentary today, but the threads will be here as always.  Like Kobe said, the FInals are guaranteed to no one, including fans, so while you are worrying and screaming and pulling your hair out with each Vujacic miss, remember to take a moment the the Lakers have now gotten here two years in a row.

Now, comment away.

I'm sad that I will be missing the special intos

It hurt watching all of the Game 1 pomp and circumstance happen in Boston last year, and I was really looking forward to it this year. Oh well

If you guys missed the news, Jameer is going to play. He’ll come off the bench for Alston

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:06 PM PDT reply actions

Keys to the first few minutes will probably be Pau’s defense on Lewis and Bynum’s fouls

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:06 PM PDT reply actions

also....

in the later parts of the game, we need to trap the perimeter shooters…

Looking okay so far. With Pau out on the perimeter guarding Lewis it really frees up the paint for them

solid play so far by the lakers, bynum is stepping up.

by kumquatsrus on Jun 4, 2009 6:18 PM PDT reply actions

Pau doesn’t need to rush his shot.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:18 PM PDT reply actions

didnt like that lee got his putback on that last break.

by kumquatsrus on Jun 4, 2009 6:19 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, we need to get back on defense in transition.

Streaming

Hey I live in Asia and unfortunately am at work right now with no TV :( do you guys have any good live streaming feeds online (besides justin.tv, my workplace blocked that from the internet)?

by Dubya2k on Jun 4, 2009 6:21 PM PDT reply actions

Thanks ESPN for the replay on that foul..

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:25 PM PDT reply actions

And Pau is rushing he looks out of sync.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:27 PM PDT reply actions

yeah, seems to be rushing a bit, last shot he was looking for the foul, instead he should have just stuffed it against battie

by kumquatsrus on Jun 4, 2009 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions

shit, atdhe is blocked too

:( guess i’ll just have to avoid all the news until i get to watch a replay…unless someone else has a streaming link

Kobe’s taking a lot of shots…

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:36 PM PDT reply actions

and we’re having difficulty drawing fouls.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Were they off ball movement or just Isos?

I’ve been walking in and out and can’t keep up with all the action

by hertagnism on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions

A little bit of both, but a lot of it has been quick shots early into the shot clock.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions

END OF THE FIRST: Magic 24, Lakers 22...

Turkoglu game high with 9 points…

Bad shot selection from Kobe

+1

offense works better when he passes more

by keefer on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions

yeap.. and he’s not getting to the FT line but he’s been pretty aggressive.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:38 PM PDT up reply actions

well lakers arent shooting that well right now, hopefully will get better rhythm as the game goes on.

by kumquatsrus on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT reply actions

Man this crowd is flat

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT reply actions

gasol needs to establish himself soon

by kumquatsrus on Jun 4, 2009 6:37 PM PDT reply actions

Pau isn’t running our offense either.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:39 PM PDT reply actions

but the Magic have a lot of their points from their FT line.

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Our spacing hasn’t looked good either

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:39 PM PDT reply actions

I just realized something

Houston took us to 7 games whereas Denver could only manage 6. Dies that make the Rockets better than the Nuggets?

I will have to ask some Denver fanatics that question

by wayde_316 on Jun 4, 2009 6:41 PM PDT reply actions

Nelson is two months ahead of schedule?

There is no way he is better than 75%

Blind devotion.

by ProfessorBigelow on Jun 4, 2009 6:42 PM PDT reply actions

Pau can’t catch a ball all of a sudden?

by intuitive on Jun 4, 2009 6:44 PM PDT reply actions

The Proposal.

Worst Movie of the Year or Worst Movie of the Century?

Discuss.

The best thing about this year's playoff

is that it clearly shows that Kobe is still above Lebron both as a player and as a sportsman.

by wayde_316 on Jun 4, 2009 6:57 PM PDT reply actions

i like our 2nd quarter. very good. nelson still looks uncomfortable out there. he looks hurt. it’s a huge gamble the magic are taking…i like how bynum came out. i did not like the last foul he committed, because it gave him 3. however, it prevented a monster dunk and a possible momentum boost for his team.

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to watch Game 5 vs. Denver at Metta World Peace's Private Party. He was very intense watching the game, and it was obvious that it bothered him a lot that he couldn't be there helping his teammates.

This is a video I took of Ron's reaction to Kobe's last shot at the buzzer to tie. Him raising his hands was the happiest I saw him during the whole game. I was hoping to record a great celebration.
