Star treatment, Man.
Star treatment.
Never mind that Kobe did not elbow Artest above the shoulders.
Fisher, thank you for sacrificing yourself for the good of the team. If the bully is taking your lunch money by pushing, shoving, grabbing, and clawing, (and the police refuse to listen) you hit back once, and you hit back hard, and you let em know you won’t be messed with.

kobe upgraded to a flagrant 1 though
which i think is ridiculous and wouldn’t have happened had not artest and everyone cried about the elbow.
Bills make me wanna SHOUT!
It's a flagrant one
That type of elbow is a flagrant foul, no doubt. Kobe’s got to hide it a little better than that, or else get someone else to do his dirty work on Artest, like say, Charles Oakley. Artest was pushing Kobe down so much, it looked like when someone is trying to drown another person in a pool!
Charles Oakley?
Is that Derek Fisher’s middle name, or something?

But Derek was really doing Lamar’s dirty work there, not Kobe.
Now we need a Kobe enforcer, so he doesn’t have to use all his tactics to get overly aggressive guys off his back, and also so they’ll think twice before shoving and pushing and grabbing and clawing. Kobe doesn’t mind, but it’s like asking the CEO to do the grunt work. It’s great he can do it, and roll up his sleeves, but he doesn’t need to be doing that, he’s the CEO now!

i disagree
he was fighting for position and being forced down like that i bet he didnt have any idea that his elbow was close to hm. i mean after all if it was to the head, he would have been suspended, as it is, he just put an elbow into artests’ chest, thats a personal foul if they catch it, which they didnt. otherwise they will have to give flagrant 1’s to yao, scola, bynum, gasol, odom, perkins, i could go on, but i think you get it, every night an elbow like that is thrown and landed with no call, it happens, this is the nba not middle school.

No no no no no no...
Watch the replay from the other side (can be found on TrueHoop, and also at the end of my previous, detailed post on this play), and it’s VERY clear that Kobe deliberately threw a hard elbow at Ron, intending to hit him. It was not a part of rebounding or keeping balance.
Was he probably frustrated from being mauled from behind by Ron? Yeah, probably. But an intentional, deliberate elbow to the chest is a flagrant 1, regardless.

Kobe should have been suspended...
According to the rules, if an elbow is thrown above the shoulders it’s an ejection.

You're a little late to this discussion...
By now, it’s been clearly shown that it wasn’t above the shoulders.

Kobe was unrepentant in post-game interviews... If he had said "I was just going for a rebound" instead of "it's just rough playoff basketball" (or whatever he said) — no problems.
Kobe’s rich enough that it’s no biggee.
Artest should have got the same penalty, although with his 2 Ts and tossing, it might be basically the same anyway… Not sure the finances of such things.
Fisher’s suspension was well earned and completely obvious.

We'll miss ya Fish...
The judgment handed down by the league office was expected and not surprising. Fish is a class act but the replay is just too damning for anyone to think otherwise. Even his post game comments were handled with class and genuine sincerity. We believe you Fish, but sometimes you’ve just gotta pay the price even though the actions intended were not filled with malice.
I’m looking forward to Jordan Farmar stepping up and showing us his growth and maturity from these past few difficult weeks for him. It wasn’t too long ago that we were hailing him as the future face at PG for the Lakers. Game 3 is his opportunity and audition.
cant wait to see Brown getting time with the top unit
