TNT hit gold

When they had Fish talking about toughness for the pre-game.

That is leadership. That is sports.

When the refs aren’t protecting your guys, and guys are talking smack to you, and grabbing your jersey, you pay. He didn’t hurt anyone, he just sent a message.

By the way, I fear for Kobe’s life. Artest is volatile.

Yes, that was a GREAT playoff game. When the Blazers learn how to play like either one of those teams, then Rocket fans and Blazer fans alike will be whining...

Fisher's foul was necessary!

The Laker’s toughness has been in question and mostly by Laker fans. Anyone who truly loves the Lakers will admit that after this game you had a sense of FINALLY! some heart. In my opinion Fisher’s foul could of changed the whole series around in the Lakers advantage. Let’s hope the take advantage of it.

Let the suspension come..

..Fisher has not produced offensively. In my opinion it was his age and lack of speed that hurt the Lakers in game one. Not to mention lousy shooting. But offensively speaking Fisher has not produced and his man has been killing him. So, this might be a blessing. Let’s hope Farmar ro S. Brown’s speed make up for it. Either way, that foul was essential for the Lakers.

As nerve-wracking as it was, THIS is fun

Not the physical nonsense and the ejections, but the tough, gritty win against an equal, deserving opponent. This reminds me of the battles against the Kings and the Spurs in the 3-peat days. The Rockets are just a great team, every bit our equal, and it’s truly fun to watch each team counter the other.

The only thing that sucks is that isn’t the WCF.

by Snoopy2006 on May 6, 2009 11:32 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah well,

it’s sorta like the de facto WCF, if that helps.

by hertagnism on May 6, 2009 11:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Rockets are tough..

Yao’s height is causing a lot of problems on the defensive end. But the key is going to be at the PG position. Brooks is killing the Lakers. Denver does not have the dominant center on the offensive end that the Rockets have.

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on May 6, 2009 11:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Brooks for 3

Brooks is flash quick, gives up strength but does well because he reads space and knows where to be. That’s why he’s open and he can drill. Definitely a weapon we’re struggling to neutralize but I think the bigger guards will wear him down if he doesn’t work of the pick and roll.

Proved to be a good combination.

They work pretty well together and seem to feed off each others speed and energy.

Phil got something right in his substitutions today.

by intuitive on May 6, 2009 11:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Still it was working because of the Rockets backcourt

of Lowry and Brooks on the court together. Aside from a few missed layups, I liked the energy those two put out in the fourth quarter. Hope it carries over to Game 3. Game 3 is a critical game and without Fish, those two need to step up.

by hertagnism on May 7, 2009 12:14 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeap

As I said above, Farmar and Brown on the floor at the same time together is actually a lot better than
Farmar with Sasha or Brown with Sasha. I hope PJ uses Farmar and Shannon together more often.

by intuitive on May 7, 2009 12:18 AM PDT up reply actions

Also,

I think that line-up would be great when we have a big lead because they like to continue pushing the pace and love getting out on the fast break.

by intuitive on May 7, 2009 12:19 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah but the problem is

whenever we have big leads and that lineup comes in, the leads are gone because they push the pace so much that they can’t control it. This leads to turnovers and also starts getting them to play poor defense.

by hertagnism on May 7, 2009 12:20 AM PDT up reply actions

but in their defense

whenever we have a big lead Phil puts in a line up that probably has never played together before.

Kobe Bryant's performance was reminiscent of the 61 point game.

Think about it.

Kobe Bryant threw up 61 earlier this year in MSG when Bynum went down with what could have been a season ending injury. The supposed answer to all the Lakers defensive deficiencies and the key them winning a championship. What did Kobe remind his team and the rest of the world? As long as I’m around, we can still win a championship. That game and message came at a critical time in the season. The Lakers were energized and went on to win back to back road games in Boston and Cleveland.

Fast forward to Game two of the playoffs. Bynum is not injured, but its clear that he won’t be 100% this playoffs and the Lakers are going to have to win a title without him at his best. The Lakers championship dreams have been dashed with a stunning home loss to the Rockets. On top of all this, the Lakers put up a very lackluster second quarter and allow the Rockets to come back after being down 14. What does Kobe say? No way we’re losing. I’m gonna drop 40. He shot well and he carried his team, yet he did so without taking them out of the game.

The last time this happened, the Lakers responded and showed they were the best team in the NBA. Now, they have a similar opportunity to respond going into Houston. Time will only tell whether or not this team can win a ’ship or not.

The Rage

Like everyone else on the SS&R, I’ve been watchin’ playoff hoop for a minute…since 1987 when I was a junior higher. Hard fouls tonight? YES. Cheap shots? If you’ve ever guarded an NBA player you know that it can get chippy really quickly. It’s never cool but it’s par especially in the playoffs. Judging from some of these posts, I’d say a lot of you guys never had a fight or been roused to the point of wanting to. IQ has nothing to do with it. That’s what the stripes are for. They’ll do their job and keep guys from killin’ one another. I’m huge on sportsmanship like tonight when Rashard Lewis dapped Rajon Rondo after fouling him hard. We’re gonna see both sides. But to write guys off as assailants becaue they ran through a screen? Man up everybody. Scola is a big boy and guess what, if the league suspends Fish for a game which they will. Fish will take it like a man ‘cause that’s what men do Lakers in 5.

If youre lazy ill sum it up for you.

“The Dwight Howard suspension tells you the players are capable of hurting each other,‘’ Stern said. "We’re there to protect the players. If you throw a punch, you’re gone. If you throw an elbow above the shoulder, you’re gone. If you come off the bench, you’re gone."

I dont know if kobe will be suspended, but DONT BE SURPRISED IF HE IS THE PRECEDENT WAS SET TO SUSPEND A STAR IN THE LAST ROUND.

Okay but there's a huge difference that should be pointed out

Dwight’s elbow was during a dead ball and intentional.

Kobe’s appeared unintentional as he was fighting for position with Ron Artest under the basket. So that should be taken into consideration by Stu Jackson.

After all, if Rondo’s closed fist foul on Brad Miller didn’t warrant one, then Kobe shouldn’t be suspended for something that happens every play when two players are jockeying for rebounding position.

There's another big difference

Artest actually got in a brawl.

Kobe was only accused of rape.

So when you bring up one, you are bringing a veritable fact. The other is an allegation.

You're dreaming

Kobe’s not gonna be suspended for the next game. The most the league will do is assess him a flagrant one foul, but that’s all. The Rockets aren’t getting off that easy. For a team like Houston which is supposed to be “tough” they sure wilted like a bunch of pansies when the Lakers turned up the pressure. I wonder if Houston’s gonna continue to be that intimidated in the next game.

Did you read what i wrote??

I never said kobe will be suspended. I said i dont know if he will be and that it shouldnt be surprise. Turning up the pressure and playing blatantly dirty are different. Playing physical and playing dirty are different. Ive never seen the Rockets run through a pick with their entier body weight, and throw an elbow to the body at the same time. Thats not how you run through a pick. Ive never seen the rockets throw an elbow above the shoulders, but i will admit that it probably has happened.

Hertagnism: The analysts excuse for rondo swiping miller was that he was going for the ball. i personally thought it was BS and he should have been suspended, but whatever. kobe wasnt going for the ball, and he threw a high elbow. But again, i dont know if it warrants a suspension.

Gils: Either way they are both in the past and both players have matured since then. There comes a point when you cant keep dangling something above a persons head cause you never give them a second chance that way.

I agree with that

I got no problem with what Ron did.

I also have no problem with what Kobe did. It should be a flagrant foul. Then again, if they had called a foul on Ron for shoving Kobe down 2 seconds before that, it might not have happened. That’s on the refs. They need to control this thing.

You know what I love about Jordan Farmar?

He doesn’t sulk and he doesn’t feel sorry for himself.

The guy has an A+ attitude in life.

He knew he might be needed, and he was ready when the call came.

Coach’s dream.

He has a good attitude. I think a lot of people dont like because he comes off really cocky at times. I hope he does well in game 3.

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to watch Game 5 vs. Denver at Metta World Peace's Private Party. He was very intense watching the game, and it was obvious that it bothered him a lot that he couldn't be there helping his teammates.

This is a video I took of Ron's reaction to Kobe's last shot at the buzzer to tie. Him raising his hands was the happiest I saw him during the whole game. I was hoping to record a great celebration.
