Coming to Los Angeles – Going to the Finals

I've been sitting on some big news for a couple weeks now, waiting to make sure it was actually going to happen before I made the announcement. With the Lakers in the Finals, which start just a few days from now, I can now make that announcement.

I will be representing Silver Screen and Roll at the Finals.

SB Nation worked out a deal with the NBA to get the bloggers representing the two Finals teams media credentials for the home games. Add some family airline miles, and amazing is happening in ways I did not expect a month and a half ago.

I won't be "on press row" – which is actually a good thing, since there will be so many members of the press on hand that many of them will actually be in an overflow room, simply watching on television. As the low guy on the totem pole, I would undoubtedly be in that room if they put me "on press row." Instead, I'll be in the stands during the game, though I believe I will still get a chance for some extra access.

In addition, I will be blogging after the games on NBA.com, giving my perspective on the fan experience and anything else I want to write about. In the process, Silver Screen and Roll will get some great exposure.

Exactly what kind of access I'll have to players, coaches, etc., has yet to be determined. And even if I get access, it's entirely likely that those members of the media who are more well known to the players and coaches will get called on for their questions before me. But it's a start, and you never know what can happen with this. I'll be finding out more details as we get closer to the start of the series.

Should I get the opportunity to ask a question here or there, we may be able to set something up here at SS&R where you guys can vote on a question to ask – a question directly from the fans, as it were. We'll work out those details once I figure out just how much access I'll get.

In the meantime, this means I'll be in the L.A. area for at least the home games, and quite possibly the road games, as well (still working out those details, as well). This means we'll have the opportunity to do a couple of SS&R public get togethers, and possibly also find an L.A. sports bar where I can join those of you who are local to watch the game together.

Use the comments to throw out any other ideas you have for things we can do while I'm in Los Angeles, ways that we can leverage this opportunity for the success of the blog and our community, etc. This is exciting!

And to think we didn't even exist six weeks ago...
