Coming to Los Angeles – Going to the Finals
I've been sitting on some big news for a couple weeks now, waiting to make sure it was actually going to happen before I made the announcement. With the Lakers in the Finals, which start just a few days from now, I can now make that announcement.
I will be representing Silver Screen and Roll at the Finals.
SB Nation worked out a deal with the NBA to get the bloggers representing the two Finals teams media credentials for the home games. Add some family airline miles, and amazing is happening in ways I did not expect a month and a half ago.
I won't be "on press row" – which is actually a good thing, since there will be so many members of the press on hand that many of them will actually be in an overflow room, simply watching on television. As the low guy on the totem pole, I would undoubtedly be in that room if they put me "on press row." Instead, I'll be in the stands during the game, though I believe I will still get a chance for some extra access.
In addition, I will be blogging after the games on NBA.com, giving my perspective on the fan experience and anything else I want to write about. In the process, Silver Screen and Roll will get some great exposure.
Exactly what kind of access I'll have to players, coaches, etc., has yet to be determined. And even if I get access, it's entirely likely that those members of the media who are more well known to the players and coaches will get called on for their questions before me. But it's a start, and you never know what can happen with this. I'll be finding out more details as we get closer to the start of the series.
Should I get the opportunity to ask a question here or there, we may be able to set something up here at SS&R where you guys can vote on a question to ask – a question directly from the fans, as it were. We'll work out those details once I figure out just how much access I'll get.
In the meantime, this means I'll be in the L.A. area for at least the home games, and quite possibly the road games, as well (still working out those details, as well). This means we'll have the opportunity to do a couple of SS&R public get togethers, and possibly also find an L.A. sports bar where I can join those of you who are local to watch the game together.
Use the comments to throw out any other ideas you have for things we can do while I'm in Los Angeles, ways that we can leverage this opportunity for the success of the blog and our community, etc. This is exciting!
And to think we didn't even exist six weeks ago...

Wow, that's awesome
The insights and perspectives on this blog are awesome, and it really has been fun engaging in it the last few weeks. Hopefully this leads to bigger and better things for yourself and the blog. Kudos to you.

Congratulations Josh.....
That’s great news. I’ll bet it will look pretty good on a resume’ as well. Kudos to SB Nation for pulling it off. Have you ever been to Staples? I can’t remember your story, sorry. If you haven’t it’s a great venue. Also LA Live is in full swing so you will have plenty to do in your off time. ESPN Zone, clubs, movies, etc…. Have a great time and get us some good insight. Here’s my question for Phil Jackson if you get a chance. “At this point in the playoffs when you want to leave it all on the court, does seniority and players ego play ANY part in your rotations, or is it the best man for the job”? Yeah I know he won’t answer but SOMEONE has to ask it eventually.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny
P.S. You may have already thought of this, but...........
You might want to try and hook up with the Kamenetzky brothers from the LA Times site. They have access and know all the tricks of the trade, plus they are nice guys and I am sure they will help you fit in. They have consistently referenced Silver Screen and Roll on their blog throughout the playoffs.
Just a suggestion, you probably have already done it anyway.

I have to say you deserve it Josh
It’s and great opportunity, ever since RespectKobe.com I thought you should be one of the big media types because you speak the truth, unbiasly, given great insight on everything better then those who are on ESPN.com. So congradulations to you, keep up the good work and unfortunately since I live in GA I can’t join ya’ll in CA but I’ll be here on SS&R throughout these Finals, being supportive.
Ohh and if
You do get close to players and coaches one question I’d want you to ask is to Phil, ask him when is he gonna sit Fisher and play his younger guards more???, I know I’m alittle bit early, Finals haven’t started but just keep this question with you because I wish I can ask it sometimes and I wish I was in CA to ask it.
OK, this is career suicide, but how cool would it be.........
To get to ask Kobe a question in the post game interview and say the following: Hey Kobe, Josh Tucker from RESPECTKOBE.com…….
Like I said career suicide, but man would that be fun.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny
LOL yeah career suicide
But he shouldn’t say that just say Josh Tucker from Silver Screen and Roll.com
So Shannon is being sued..
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4219580
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Shannon Brown is being sued in civil court for an alleged sex-related incident with a woman in Denver, Brown’s agent, Mark Bartelstein confirmed to ESPN’s Shelley Smith on Sunday.
“There was absolutely nothing to it,” Bartelstein said. “I find it very interesting all of a sudden Shannon Brown has some success and someone decides to sue him civilly. People can draw their own conclusions. I stand by Shannon Brown. Everything Shannon has said to me as to what happened, the prosecutor verifies.”
And Nelson might come back for the Finals..
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4219606
Orlando is evaluating All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson for a possible return to the Magic lineup for the NBA Finals that begin Thursday night in Los Angeles.
Magic spokesman Joel Glass said on Sunday that Nelson’s rehabilitation from a shoulder injury is ahead of schedule but that his status remains uncertain.
I've got a snippet on Nelson coming back in a forthcoming View from Orlando piece.
Sounds like they are hoping to maybe, perhaps get him on the court for about 15 minutes a game as the backup 1.

Nah Orlando shouldn't do that, and I don't think they will do it
But that’s interesting, I’m guessing they know what we know Rafer Alston against Lakers PG ain’t gonna work and Nelson has been the Laker killer so very intresting but I hope they look towards the future and not now.
Anyone know when the parade would be?
I know it’s a bit soon to be talking parade, but this is purely for travel planning purposes. Is it the day after the 4th win? 2 days after? Anyone know anything?

The Lakers defeated the New Jersey Nets, Wednesday, June 12 in New Jersey.

Looks like it was a daytime parade over by mid- to late-afternoon.
That’s based on the publication date of that article.
I’ve booked my return for 3pm-ish on the 21st, which would be 3 days after Game 7. I can always try to get on an earlier standby if the series is over sooner (or if we don’t win), and if we win in 7, that should give me enough time to be there for the parade.
Thanks for the reference.

Man, looking for that brought back bittersweet memories, when Shaq and Kobe looked like they would rule the NBA Universe forever.

Josh, you know what this means...
The onus is on you to make sure Staples is rocking for the first two games of the Finals. If your cheers aren’t reaching shrieking-fangirl levels, you’re not trying hard enough.
Congrats man, I’m jealous. Represent Laker fans well.
My idea if you get to ask Phil a question: ask him to bring the beard back, it’ll bring back memories and he seems too grandfatherly and soft right now.
Congratulations Josh!
I’d say hang out with the Kamenetzky brothers, but they probably don’t like you cause you’re big time new competition :)
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
Congrats Josh
Any exposure is good exposure.
This might be a risky question but wouldn’t it be great to ask Kobe or Phil what they think about the ESPN’s crew that ties correlation between Kobe shooting more and the team doing bad and transforming it into causation when (and you should totally say this) the more intelligent observers of the team know that it isn’t the case.
Laker practice tweets:
Phil Jackson at practice: “It’s to your advantage not to double (Dwight Howard).”
“This team has fought really, really hard. Our reward is you get to go from preparing for LeBron to preparing for Kobe.” – Stan Van Gundy
Good to hear
If we can avoid it, I’d rather we don’t double Howard, at least not regularly. Their perimeter game is just deadly.
The Orlando Magic are going to win this series

Hey Ernest Hemingway, you said the same thing 3 times. We get it, you think the Magic are going to win.
How about you do a fanpost and just say “the magic are going to win” about 300 times and save us all the trouble? Thanks.

Here's the deal
Normally, we shouldn’t even respond to trolls like you. But, maybe we can turn you. You are more than welcome to provide your prediction, viewpoint, whatever, but please back it up with some more information. If you don’t do that, you’re just another troll. This blog welcomes the opposing viewpoint, and in fact, embraces it. So please reconsider your approach here.

Proud of You, Josh
I remember last year you would be talking about how much lack of exposure your Respect Kobe site received. We all hoped that one day you will be a renowned blogger. And it’s coming true!

Very interesting
He does have a point on his turnovers and missed FTs late in the game. Even I was surpried at both of those. I was wondering if they were going to make a Howard puppet who all of a sudden moves in with Kobe ( after LeBron moves out ).

Josh, you are one lucky dude.
Not bad for only being around a little over a month or so. Moving on up. Hey I wonder if you will be sitting next to the person running the Magic blog? Have a blast and enjoy the game.
I am so excited and the next few days can’t move fast enough.

I doubt it
Assuming it’s Ben Q. Rock from Third Quarter Collapse, I’d really love to do that… but like me, I’m assuming he’s only going to home games. If bloggers like us could afford to be flying ourselves across the country, I’m pretty sure we’d get road access as well, but blogging hasn’t reached that level, yet, I don’t think. That would be pretty cool though, wouldn’t it?

Magic Fan here....
just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to all you Laker fans….hope we can have some great discussions and exchange of point of view over the course of this series….looks to be a great match up. We Magic fans would like to thanks your
Lakers for personally taking care of our nemesis and Magic Killer Chauncey Billips. Looking forward to a great competitive series with you guys!! My prediction Magic in 7!! I think we win Games 2 and 7 on the road to win it.
"if you're going to cry...go cry to your mama"
Winning a Game 7 on the road is a lot harder than a Game 2.
Of course you guys did it to the Celtics, but the premise is still true. Personally I think if you are going to win one on the road it will be game 1. We will see.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny
Possibly....
…but i think PJ will have the Lakers ready for Game 1 at home….i think if they win they will possibly not come out in Game 2 as hard as 1 as they have been prone to lapses in energy from what i have seen…we’ll see i guess….but i don’t see the Magic sweeping there home games as much as i’d like to wish they would…winning 3 in a row anywhere, let alone this level is very difficult.
"if you're going to cry...go cry to your mama"
Well it will definatly be a good series
Yeah the Lakers have had lapses in the playoffs and finally were able to close out a series on the road against the Nuggets. I am confident that they can carry that into the Finals, we’ll see. The Magic are a tough team and I was surprised to see you guys handle the Cavs the way you did. I had no idea you were that successfull against them. I was surprised to see that LeBron didn’t congratulate any of the Magic players after the game.
