Lakers beat Nuggets 4-2. NBA Finals June 4th.
Nicked from the LA Times Lakers Blog via the post-game thread.

I got to give it to the Kamenetsky brothers.
They keep me coming back for more.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

This could all have been the Blazers’.

Shane Battier on Ariza
"Ariza did two things great during the regular season: He rebounded at the rate of a good power forward on the offensive boards and he was a terrific finisher on the break. If you could match his energy — play transition D, box out — you could limit his productivity.
"Where he has been great in the postseason is shooting the basketball. He has shot the lights out; at one point, I’m sure he led the league in 3-point percentage for the playoffs. I haven’t watched him closely enough to know if he’s doing something different technically or if the ball is coming off the right finger or anything like that. My guess is he’s seeing the target faster. That’s what people say when they’re shooting the lights out: ‘The rim just looks huge.’ That usually means you’re finding the target earlier in your shot.
"But I don’t really have a clue why Ariza has decided to become Craig Hodges. I don’t think anyone would have predicted that. But I do believe when you’re making 3s, especially when you’re not known for that, it brings tremendous confidence to your entire game. When I see him now, he’s playing facets of the game with confidence he didn’t have in the regular season. Those big defensive plays he made for the Lakers, specifically the steals, don’t happen unless he’s playing with great confidence. Credit his shooting for that. And that’s called irony."
George Karl after the game interview
“Tonight #24 hit about 4 or 5 shots in a row in that second quarter that nobody could guard. I mean even Jesus would have had a hard time guarding him.”
You don't mess with the Jesus

Just saw the Kobe block in the ESPN highlight package
I’m pretty sure that was a goaltend.
I will rationalize that call with the fact that Kenyon Martin goaltended Kobe’s shots multiple times with no call.
Nah, I’m not convincing myself. Bad call on that one.
"This is not a game for boys. This is a game for men." - Phil Jackson
First time i saw it...
I called goaltend. However upon the replay I think it was 50.50. The ball was almost thrown in a downwards motion, but it was traveling horizontal in the air i believe.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
This made me laugh
Once they were done with the brief ceremony, the Lakers removed the T-shirts and caps that proclaimed them conference champions. Andrew Bynum, who missed this part last season because of a knee injury, was the only one who wore his new merchandise out to the team bus.

Anyone else notice these tidbits.
1. Pau had a double double in every game in this series.
2. Kobe, Pau, Lamar, and Trevor scored 92 points. So did Denver.

Bynum wants Orlando
“We want Orlando,” Andrew Bynum proclaimed, “because I think we owe them. They beat us 2-0 in the regular season, but we get homecourt against them and that’s huge in The Finals. Last year we learned that.”

Kareem said it best
He was talking about the Houston series, but he may as well been talking about every series:
As much as the media will start praising Kobe (he does deserve high praise – and where were they before? Probably bashing him), we should all remember that it takes a team to win a championship. And NO ONE player, NO ONE has ever won an NBA title by himself, as much as the mythmaking machine would have you believe.

Kobe Bryant was willing to trust his teammates in Game 6, and they did not disappoint. Kobe’s 10 assists were his most in a game since January 21 (at the Clippers, 12), and his most in the playoffs since Game 4 of last year’s finals (10).
His teammates made the most of the unselfishness, shooting an astounding 10-11 (91 percent) off Kobe dishes.
Kobe was willing to trust his teammates in Game 6
… and Game 1, and Game 2, and Game 3, and Game 4, and Game 5 …

Kenyon Martin, defiant to the bitter end, and after
“I think we’re better than them, actually, to be honest,” said Martin, still stubborn. "But we didn’t prove that. That’s obvious, cause they’re moving on and we’re not. But I think we have a better team than they do.

It's worth mentioning again: 24-24 on Free Throws?
How do you rig that?
Man, the Lakers came out focused.
And Lamar Odom is shooting 14-27 from three-point land in the playoffs (52%)… what???

Tweet From Daryl Morey Tonight
Spoke to Ron upon landing in HOU from CHI pre-draft camp. He thinks no one else will take the LAL to 7 gms and we were the #2 team this year

Following the Daryl Morey tweet, Dexter?
You’re better than that!
Just kidding. Why am I still up? And are you working on that tempo adjusted boxscore for us? No rush, there’s plenty of time before the next game.
I like Ron’s opinion, but everyone’s got one.

This column is packed with quotes I haven't seen yet
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/11800563
“I know there are some great players,” said Andrew Bynum, who will be one of them someday. “But I think everybody knows that he’s still the best.”
It was his time, and nobody was going to deprive him of it. Before he walked onto the floor, Trevor Ariza pulled him aside and said this: “So everybody always says that the fourth quarter’s your quarter. Now, I want to see it.”
And?
“He showed me what Kobe Bryant stands for,” Ariza said, “and what he means.”
“When they sort of stopped being so aggressive on the doubles, he was unstoppable and he put it on them,” said Luke Walton, who had 10 points off the bench. “Then they had to come back and he started passing again. He had them at his mercy the whole game.”
“He knows that nothing lasts forever,” Ariza said. “It’s your mark that you leave on the game, and he’s leaving a crazy mark on the game. I don’t think there’s anybody out there that’s better than him still. I don’t think he has anything to prove. He just has the killer instinct in him that nobody can take it from him, no matter what.”
“We made him feel young again,” Anthony said. “We rejuvenated him. I’m pretty sure he didn’t need it, but he felt comfortable with us, man. It’s been a long time since he’s been in an environment like we had last summer … Being around us, us being around him, enjoying the guys, getting to know him better as a person, a lot of people were looking forward to that.”
“He’s one of the greatest competitors I’ve ever seen,” Walton said. “He’s the most skilled player in the league, so he’s going to compete and he’s going to try to win every opportunity he can. And he’s going to keep doing that until he physically can’t do it anymore. And right now he can still do it, so he looks forward to those challenges. Most times, he rises to the occasion.”
