"The Lakers paid $50,000 to win that game."

This has to be a joke right? No, accoring to an article in the Denver Post an anonymous Nuggets player has accused the Lakers of paying off the league 50 Grand to get the calls from the game. More after the jump.

Star-divide

In what can be summarized as an article lacking any true substance besides baseless accusations by an "anonymous" classless nuggets player. $50,000 for a game? Maybe if they took a look at the box score from the game it would make a little more sense.

Billups takes 7 shots in 39 minutes, while Kenyon Martin takes 15.

J.R. takes not 1, not 2, not 7, but 10 3's and makes exactly 1 more than I did last night.

The disparity in free throw shooting from the game was a whole 5 shots at 35-30 in favor of the Lakers.

With the offense struggling at the beginning of the 4th quarter, George Karl leaves Carmelo, by far their best offensive weapon, on the bench as the lead for the Lakers gets bigger than Karl's eyes at a Home Town Buffet.

I could go on and on but you catch my drift. $50,000 for a game huh? who exactly did we pay this to, the Nuggets or the refs, because from all accounts it looks like it was the inability of the Nuggets squad entering the 4th quarter to generate the stops necessary to win the game. Lets not even get started on the calls, or lack there of in game 4. Stay classy Denver.

Meh. I couldn’t care less about what some Denver player said about the officiating. I just kinda learned over the years to ignore these things. The only that matters is getting the W anyways.

proof positive

The entire Nuggets roster should be shot. Oh wait, they already have been? Or was it they already shot someone else?

The Nuggets need to clean up their act, and clean house. Get rid of the trash talking, bitching, whining players who are as bad as their fans and take the easy cop out to explain their own failings. This is nothing different than what they do in games, which is why they have more fouls. After commiting one bad foul on one end, or getting a non-call, they then quickly proceed to earn an even more stupid foul on the other end, or even better, earn themselves a technical because they can’t control their emotions and shut their traps.

Isn't it strange though,

that something that will get Pau or Kobe to the line/bail them out doesn’t do the same for Nene/JR Smith/K-Mart/Billups/Melo?

Nope

Nuggets have been getting the calls all series. How come the Nuggets fans don’t say anything about the 49 FT’s they shot from Game 4.

Yes, you’ll say that they attacked the rim hence they deserved it. Well, last night, they didn’t attack, settled for 3’s (1-10 by smith).
And when they did, they were blocked or missed their shots. Yes those were clean blocks.

Don’t worry, you’ll get your calls tomorrow.

A foul is a foul either way.

If there is a foul in the first quarter against the Nuggets, it should be called against the Lakers in the first quarter.

The problem is your original assertion isn't true

All series long, Billups and Melo have been getting touch fouls that Kobe doesn’t get. It’s easy to say Kobe gets the superstar calls because he’s a superstar and we’re just so sure that superstars get calls. Such an original thought process… But watch the game, and you’ll see that he gets hacked, stripped, bumped, and grabbed in ways that would result in 25 to 30 free throws for LeBron. Meanwhile, Melo in particular has continued to get touch fouls and phantom fouls that Kobe is not getting on the other end.

And despite all that, you haven't heard Kobe complain or blame losses on the officiating

did you even see the game?

A lot of bullshit calls, Nene should have never picked up that 6th foul, cuz that was an offensive foul on Pau. A lot of lame ass calls, though the Lakers played great, they capitalized on the bullshit calls. Oh and the 49 FTs the nuggets shot in game 4….even the announcers said that they deserved the FTs because they where attacking the basket…..

someone 50 pounds lighter

just plows into a bigger defender? Yeah, sure. It’s called a flop, and while attempting to draw a BS offensive foul, which the refs were going to let go and NOT call a blocking, they did when his feet tangled up Pau’s and toppled him to the ground.

Alot of times, the ref’s reasoning is they don’t call a play a foul if the foul did not affect the play had the foul not been made.

ie, if a player bumps a offensive player in the post, clearly disloding them, the correct call is a blocking foul. But if the offensive player simply turns from his new position and drops in a shot, the refs will let it go, because despite the foul, the offensive player was still able to make his basketball move and make the shot. Even if he missed, they still wouldn’t call it.

First, that was a weak foul, but it’s Nene’s fault that the refs had to call it. No, it was not an offensive foul. Nene did not have position, his feet were still moving, which means that the right to that space belonged to the offensive player – Gasol. Now, had Nene not fallen down it would have been a no-call, and that would have been correct. But when Nene fell down, and Pau with him, that forced the official’s hand, because that play affected the possession. He had no choice but to call the foul. Conclusion: Technically, it was a foul, but had Nene stayed standing, it would have been a no-call; the fact that Nene fell down (what big man flops to draw a charge when he’s got 5 fouls??) was what forced the ref’s hand.

Also, convenient that you mention the Nuggets attacking the basket in Game 4, but overlook the opposite happening in Game 5. In fact, given how many outside shots the Nuggets took, and how few points in the paint they scored (those numbers were almost identically reversed from Game 4), they actually got favored treatment to get only 5 fewer FTAs than the Lakers – whereas in Game 4, when the Lakers played like the Nuggets did in Game 5, they got 14 FTAs less than the Nuggs.

50K?

Does that strike anyone else as being a pretty lowball figure to win a playoff game? If you’re gonna lie, at least come up with a believable payoff amount.

$50k fine

is what is being referred to, in regards to phil jackson being fined 25k + the lakers org. 25k for 50k total after phil criticized the officiating in gm4.

That's even worse

Because fines are handed out for complaining about officiating pretty much every week. Whining about what has become standard operating procedure (including Karl last night) in the NBA is weaksauce.

that's 25k more we could have given Ariza next year!

The home team always gets more calls

With that said, the Lakers lost game 4 because of their inability to rebound the ball allowing the Nuggest plenty of second-chance points.

The Lakers won game 5 because we played better in the fourth quarter and didn’t turn the ball over 5 straight times like the Nuggets did.

It must of been Melo or Martin or wait it could be NENE cause he got fouled out lol. They cry too damn much man! They wanna win this series and they know they are not better than the Lakers so they will find a way to start rumors and false accusations towards the Lakers! Grow up Thuggs and learn how to play real basketball! I hope they fine the person that made that rumor up. If thats the case then let us go back to denver and talk about the refs. Denver must of paid them money cause they shot 49 times behind the line in one of the games and won. Ok Mr.Denver player (who remained anonymous) You will get yours tonight! Go Lakers! and God Bless the Lakers for being the cleanest and the classiest team in the playoffs.
