Lakers-Nugs Game 3: 4th Quarter Thread
Well, we're not out of it, but we're not really in it either. And that little run by Denver at he end of the 3rd certainly didn't help. If the Lakers can
a) make a damn free throw
b) play just a little defense
c) get Vujacic and his over-pursuant defense off the floor
then we could still win this game that up to this point we really don't deserve to. Just remember, the Lakers are 112-0 when Kobe dunks and it fouled. Let's make it 113.

We start off the 4th with a dumb foul

And that’s why he isn’t a great point guard…

really, neither do the Cavs, Heat, or Blazers.
Fearthesword.com: "There is no doubt that the long layoff, combined with the ease of the first two rounds had the Cavaliers a bit tired in the 4th quarter."
Blazers DEFINITELY use a PG.

Roy acts as the point guard in the pick and roll sets, Blake plays a lot of off-guard. Blake doesn’t play the pick and roll or feed the post particularly well. He’s a spot-up shooter.

Phil couldn’t even teach the triangle offense when he got to LA. He had to go get Tex Winter to teach it.
Plus, we need someone who can actually defend the opposition point.

That's my favorite stat ... ever
I just love that stat. Thanks Josh, it’s worth remember and tracking!
Censor it and put it in the body. SB Nation rules: No profanity in the title.

Hopefully some of the swagger comes back...
and the Lakers bring the hustle and anger to next game. I’d love to close this out at home next Wednesday.
HEY,
Anyone else notice Kobe hamming it up during the interview.
This is great, he and LeBron are competing in everything. Scoring. Huge shots. Over dramatic fake wincing.
I see a another Vitamin water commercial.
I love it.
The Lakers are 11-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
Kobe is giving everything he has. He is exhausted.
It is good. Leave it all on the court. Time to rest up for Monday.
GO BRONCOS IN 2009 AND BEYOND!!
Lakers lead series 2-1
Cramps and seriously hurting are two different things...
For example Kobe dislocates his finger and gets it poped back in right away while paul pierce runs to the tunnel to get it popped back in so that no one see’s him crying like a B!

Time to relax and enjoy this win. See you guys later.

Wait... the 112-0 stat FanShot (now 113-0) was actually TRUE???
I thought that was Pickaxe and Roll people making a lame attempt at sarcasm… IT WASN’T???

I thought so too. Who keeps track of that?
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
I think it was just us making fun of the people who try to correlate
the “experts” connecting Kobe taking more shots and the Lakers chances of winning.
From a Lakers chat
Raise your hand if you think Karl is gonna get hit for having noted passer Kenyon Martin toss that ball in. Hand raised.
Speaking of fouls, I can see the headlines already.
We got the better end of the calls down the stretch.
Even if that were true, it would only mirror Game 2.
We got them early. It evened out late. I knew it was going to happen this game. although I thought it was an “evenly” called game.
Even meaning it sucked for most teams.
That is the problem with the NBA though. We expect it to even out. They make it too obvious.
It’s either too much, or too little, then makes decent calls look like make up calls.
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
I think it mirrors the past two games
Team A gets all the calls the first 3 quarters and then Team B gets all of them down the stretch.
Can we all agree that the officiating has been consistently inconsistent?
Maybe you're right. Maybe he was still in at that point.

Yeah, he was still in. He fouled out afterwards.

Interestingly, the play-by-play thread credits Melo with the turnover. That ain't right.

Speaking of inbound passing.
Could you imagine how many steal Ariza would have if Luke was on another team???
Why is Luke still allowed to? He’s been quite terrible at it the past 2 years.
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
I can't believe you would miss that either...

Hmm Who here thinks that the Lakers played harder than the Nuggets this game?
I think the Lakers played harder, but the people over at the PIckaxeandroll do not – they think effort was the same.
that’s ridiculous. Both teams competed. Denver couldn’t buy a three or a shot in the final quarter… LA defense or just missing shots, it’s not the Denver effort that is at fault.
Fearthesword.com: "There is no doubt that the long layoff, combined with the ease of the first two rounds had the Cavaliers a bit tired in the 4th quarter."
Agreed
I think the Nuggets played VERY hard

They played hard in both games.
They failed to execute in Game 2. They executed better in the 4th this game. So it seems like playing harder.
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
Effort has not been the problem this series.
Just execution, an inability to hit shots, aside from Ariza. So damn frustrating.
Vujacic and Farmar.....
only players on Lakers with negative +/-
"Don't I know you from somewhere"?. "Nah, that ain't me, I'm from Buffalo" - Axel Foley
+/- over one game, or even ten or twenty, is inconsequential. Too much statistical noise. Only after half a season or so does it become relevant.
Fearthesword.com: "There is no doubt that the long layoff, combined with the ease of the first two rounds had the Cavaliers a bit tired in the 4th quarter."
Um then check the rest of the season...
82 games.com doesn’t lie. And no I haven’t checked, I don’t have to.
"Don't I know you from somewhere"?. "Nah, that ain't me, I'm from Buffalo" - Axel Foley
Personally, I'm not even that huge a fan over 82 games

I don't trust +/- that much either, but..............
I see a pattern with those two. Plus Sasha.
"Don't I know you from somewhere"?. "Nah, that ain't me, I'm from Buffalo" - Axel Foley
+/- for LO means his patented play...
Going 1 for 2 at the line.
He and Trevor.
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
that’s because of Bynum’s really, really bad +/- and the fact that Powell was incredibly awful by +/-… the people he plays in lieu of were not effective by the +/- metric.
Fearthesword.com: "There is no doubt that the long layoff, combined with the ease of the first two rounds had the Cavaliers a bit tired in the 4th quarter."
+/- means nothing, not tonight.
Fisher was on the floor when Kobe was on, scrambling for some of the Mamba’s table scraps. He did nothing. If there was an individual +/-, Fisher would have set an all-time low tonight.
Credit where it's due
He played good defense on those two inbounds (timeout, then turnover).

I refuse to give Fisher much credit for anything. Before the inbounds, he destroyed us defensively, letting Smith catch fire. I don’t blame him, because he tried his best. I blame Phil, because Shannon Brown should have been in the game. The entire game.
He is killing us offensively though.
My problem is that as a veteran, he is supposed to make good decisions right?
It;s one thing to miss shots, it’s another to make questionable choices. We already have Sasha for that.
Speaking of bad decisions. I;d like to thank Chauncey Billups for quite a few stupid shots that missed and kept us within range when the Pepsi center was ready to explode.
The Lakers are 12-2 against the Nuggets in the past 2 years.
Was it just me...
Or was anyone else extremely frustrated by Fisher’s performance?
