Lakers-Nugs Game 3: 2nd Quarter Thread

Photo

All together now: this could be a lot worse!

The Lakers have missed 60% of their free-throw attempts and have collected only one offensive rebound. Yet, thanks to either witchcraft or some kind of voodoo hex, the Nugs lead by only a solitary point. I'll take it!

Carmelo Anthony has 14 points so far. Hey, did you guys hear that he's grown up this season? I know he has, because it's apparently Official ABC Talking Point number one today.

Hit up the second-quarter thread after the jump. You started throwing bass, she started throwing back midrange....

At least the Nuggets are in salary cap hell, with three big money players committed through 2012 and another through through 2011.

$74,622,239 committed next year, with Jones, Carter, and Andersen yet to sign. Billups is getting older also.

Ha-Ha! Denver, you better enjoy this year.

No, it’s just harder to add talent. If the Blazers don’t get a point guard this offseason, we’re screwed. We won’t have money under the cap for the next decade.

We do still have Lafrentz’s Bird rights, though, so I guess we could sign him and create an expiring contract to trade.

Fisher has been horrible and not running the offense. He continues to look for his own shot and really denies the ball from Kobe. Give the dang ball to Kobe because he will make the right decisions. Sometimes I wonder what Fishers real basketball IQ is. I dont care what leadership he brings out on the floor because its obviously not much. This series especially hes been in love with dribbling the ball and shaving off lots of time on the shot clock. Then he either gives the ball to Gasol/Bynum who are too far out on the post to get a good shot down or takes an unnecessary low percentage jumpshot.

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 6:45 PM PDT reply actions

and Fisher is -7… Lowest of all players

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 6:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Something is going on with Fish

He hasn’t done anything well in the playoffs. His defense is horrible, running the offense has stunk not to mention his god awful shooting. When he is on camera he looks stressed out. I think there is something going with Fish’s personal life. I have been watching him since he was a Laker and never have seen him stink so bad. It could be something with his daughters illness or the stalker that has been bothering his family. I think we will found out after the playoffs.

by keefer on May 23, 2009 6:49 PM PDT up reply actions

It doesn’t matter what’s happening in his personal life. When he steps on the court he should be leaving all personal issues behind. The decisions he’s been making have been horrible. He has the ball in his hands TOO much for it to benefit us positively. When he’s in the game he holds or dribbles the ball for longer than Kobe which definitely shouldn’t be happening.

I have no idea what he’s doing but this series he’s looked absolutely horrible. I do not understand why Phil gives him as much minutes as he does. When he comes out we look much better

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions

some things are more than a basketball game

Phil is being loyal to fish. In the past, Fish has been a playoff warrior, making the clutch plays and leading the team. But I agree he has been stinking it up in this playoffs.

by keefer on May 23, 2009 7:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Keywords are “In the past”

I know how great he’s been but Phil has to realize that was then and this is now. I dont care if it hurts Fish’s feelings or pride as long as we get the win. By putting him in (with the way he’s playing now) we jeopardize our chances much more of losing than when Shannon or Farmar is in the game

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 7:02 PM PDT up reply actions

And Ariza needs to stop splitting the FT’s and make both. Especially when it’s such a close series or a close game. Every point counts and I dont think anyone really GETS that besides Kobe.

Need to make those free throws

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 6:46 PM PDT reply actions

Even though we’re only down by 4 Denver is capable of playing better. Theyre only shooting 40%. Both teams have only made 1 three pointer.

Even in rebounding at 22. Denver has one less turnover, they have 5 we have 6.

by intuitive on May 23, 2009 6:48 PM PDT reply actions

lakers should be happy theyre still in striking distance after a lackluster half. yes, if the lakers make their FTs, get back in transition earlier, and keep the birdman from backdoor cuts, we would have the lead. improving the shot selection and moving the ball more would be nice. sucks to see bynum in foul trouble, one of those calls was bs.
