LIVE GameThread - Lakers vs. Nuggets: Game 1 - 4th Quarter

Nuggets played extremely physical ball, and managed to go the entire quarter without being in the penalty. I'm trying really hard to bite my tongue about the officiating.

Kobe's technical was NOT smart. The Lakers have done some good things, but they need to do better if they want to win this game.

And that's the thing: I'm not convinced they're really feeling the urgency of the need to win this game. I mean, how can they not, right? But I just don't feel like they do. Is it just me?

Lakers need to get something going inside, in the 4th quarter. 2-point deficit is nothing. Bring the intensity in the 4th, and this will be a win.

They’ve gotten away with quite a bit of physicality. It’s par for the course, as far as I’m concerned.

I don't think so

This is a heartbreaking defeat for Denver and they will not recover to pull out a win in game 2. They had a great night offensively and defensively and they couldn’t win, even with the foul disparity in their favor. No, I think you guys will go up 2-0, go into Denver, and take at least one game. It’s very hard to conceive this series going to 6 games.

The big thing is we couldn’t get any momentum early and then in the last few minutes we got the momentum and basically “stole” the game. It doesn’t matter because we showed heart. Where are all the nay sayers now?! We overcame a huge free throw disparity as well.

Wow

I haven’t been that into a game in years. Outside of some terrible officiating, which was bad both ways (Nuggets 90% of the game, Lakers 10%, the last 10%), this was just a great game by both teams.

few thoughts from this game

i’m enthused that we can win against denver with pretty much no production from bynum

it seems fisher may have found his shot back…. maybe

vujacic’s shot is still no where to be found

and lastly we won without getting the offensive production expected from most of our players, this game was pretty much all kobe for the most part. i can’t wait to see what we’ll do once gasol gets back in rythym, odom is back to form, and maybe… just maybe… we can get some production out of bynum.

by tdp992 on May 19, 2009 9:03 PM PDT reply actions

Even though a lot of shots weren’t there we played good defense

by intuitive on May 19, 2009 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Pau/Bynum 13 shots, Fisher 13 shots, and we still won the game.

I’m fully prepared to eat my words on that one. For all the shit we’ve given Phil over the past few weeks, give him the credit when what he does works. All postseason, he’s had faith in Derek, and played the bench a lot (too much in the minds of most of us). We’ve killed him for playing Luke, we’ve killed him for playing Fish. And tonight, Derek was the only starter to have a positive +/-, and Luke had the best +/- on the team. And the entire bench was responsible for this win.

The man might have championship rings for a reason.

by C.A. Clark on May 19, 2009 9:06 PM PDT reply actions

Who'd have thought

The Lakers and Nuggets would play that physical of a game. I agree with SSR, the officiating sucked. Definitely no home cooking. But the Lakers won, so what the hell.

by illcowboy on May 19, 2009 9:06 PM PDT reply actions

No one thought the Lakers could play physical.

Well there you go! Kobe didn’t back down from the physical play and that carried over to everyone else. Now if someone else could hit a jump shot we would of been up by 10 or so…

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on May 19, 2009 9:09 PM PDT reply actions

Kobe doesnt back down from anything It’s the others we have to be worried about. Not tonight!

by intuitive on May 19, 2009 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions

The Lakers need to play better though.

Bynum can play better. Kobe though he scored 40 still took too many shots to do so. I like the hustle though at the end of the game.
