Vote for Kobe as Athlete of the Year [Updated]

In case you've missed this memo, voting is currently going on for 2009 Athlete of the Year. Kobe is on that list.

Why vote for Kobe? Leading his team to a championship (Kobe's 4th) and winning Finals MVP come to mind. So does starting off this season with a much improved post game, and currently ranking 4th in points in the paint.

Oh, and of course, there's another NBA star listed on the ballot. You know what to do.

UPDATE: Kobe is also up for Player of the Decade and other highlights on ESPN (click here to vote) and TNT All-Decade (click here, and also here and here for past votes). Make sure to vote in all of the above!

What if I don't think he is though? j/k

By the way, when the Lakers win the title this year 09/10 and they win it again in 10/11 would that count as part of this decade? Just curious.

Either way, after Kobe gets his next ring (this year) that will stop all the arguments that this decade is and will belong to him. No doubt!

uhh their in the next decade so no lol

haha well, they usually consider our 2000 title part of this decade even though that season was partly in 99’. But the 10/11 season is all next decade.

by desecrator09 on Dec 7, 2009 4:18 PM PST up reply actions

that makes

sense. I think it is counted the year the season ends and that is why we would get credit of 99-00 and not for 10-11.

2000-2009

09-10 wouldnt really count
but hey
we got 4 titles in this decade
while the spurs got 3
so technically were already team of the decade :)

I can't really vote for Kobe's all decade playoff dunk.

Baron Davis’ dunk over Kirilenko was just so brutal. I mean it was like all I searched to show people for a while. Just a ridiculous posterization.

I have to disagree with you there...

…maybe I’m a homer, but I’ve seen Kirilenko on a poster before. Up until that point, I didn’t remember seeing KG on one, and it was on the road, on two people, and the entire road crowd almost became Laker fans for the rest of the day just because of the viciousness of the dunk.

I have to give it to Kobe, though if it were about significance, it’d be the Shaq lob.

Ok

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. They’re both good dunks. They’re my no.1 and no.2 so I treat them interchangeably, but if forced to choose I’d be hard-pressed not to choose the little man over the big man.

Little men dunking is what the NBA is all about.

But yes, we will agree to disagree.

what the??

must have been deleted
pretty much almost everyone rejected the idea along with me.

I think just maybe because me and someone else

don’t remember the name were going back and forth and altough it never got out of hand we were just going back and forth and it started to get a bit heated. Maybe I’m way off but I didn’t see why it should have been deleted. Oh Well! This isn’t my blog so it’s no big deal. The powers that be have the right to do what they want.

Kobe’s dunk over KG wasn’t the most ferocious, but it was definitely the most difficult of the group. I forgot that was a playoff game.

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

talk about acrobatics!

though, i think everyone should still vote on based on their own opinions, not just for kobe.

on a side note though, lebron gets 2 dunks?? Really, where there no better dunks in the playoffs in the past decade that they had to use 2 Lebron dunks?

by Nostance on Dec 7, 2009 7:55 PM PST up reply actions

That wouldn't be a poster

with KG on it. Its more like showing Kobe’s athleticism than anything. I say poster because he dunked over Kirilenko and it makes a good-looking picture. Not saying its the only time Kirilenko has been dunked on. Just that Davis’ dunk is what did it for me out of this group at least. Its just my opinion. I respect your opinion tho. They’re both good dunks.

by Marty Mart on Dec 7, 2009 11:57 PM PST up reply actions

and one more thing...

im surprised that the team of the decade was voted mostly the 99-00 team. I think it should’ve been the 00-01 team because they went something like, 15-1 in the postseason.

the entire vote makes me proud to be a Lakers fan having witnessed them all.

by RudeMood19 on Dec 8, 2009 3:57 PM PST reply actions

yeah

but the 99-00 team was 67-15
thats tied with the 2007 mavs
for the best seasonal record in this decade
in 2001 they won 56-26
but yeah that team certainly deserves consideration
if not for AI’s game 1 performance they woulda been perfect in the playoffs
(i remember that game a lot, especially when AI steps over Tyronne Lue)
