Portland's Greg Oden out for the season
Terribly sad news out of Portland tonight as Greg Oden went down with a fractured patella and is likely done for the season. As a fanbase who knows a thing or two about young and extremely promising centers going down with injury, every single one of us should feel pity for both Oden and Trailblazer fans. Nobody wanted to see this happen to Oden, who was proving himself to be one of the best young centers in the league, just a step behind our own Andrew Bynum.
On a more selfish note, both Bynum and Oden have struggled with injuries for the past couple years. Here's hoping that Oden's tragedy stays in Portland this year. Feeling for a rival fan base is one thing. Wanting to share in their pain is something else.

Well said C.A.
I was really looking forward to see these two future studs go at it next month. I want Drew to start wearing some fucking shackles on his knees from now on! lol
Damn!
I feel for Rip City. Oden was showing some promise and then he gets a fractured patella and just like that, his season is history. Sorry Portland!
almost the same injury that Bynum had the first time....
cept his was dislocated which isnt quite as bad
The video is gruesome. Check out the Rockets bench reaction, yikes.

holy *****
Again, Drew, go order those shackles ASAP!
its like watching bynum go down all over again
i think aaron brooks ran into his kneecap and broke it
im hoping this will be like Big Z’s situation
where he has a few serious injuries early on
but he is able to stay healthy from then on and have a successful career
best thoughts and wishes to Mr. Oden
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
Actually there was no contact whatsoever...
They showed an overhead camera view later on. He just jumped crooked and the bone in his leg broke his kneecap in half.

Sympathy for Oden. None for Portland.
Timbo,
I know your are a man with a divided heart. I think just about everybody that is a basketball fan sympathizes with this young man. Nobody can relish seeing an obviously good kid, have this amount of continuing misfortune, through no fault of his own, being visited upon him.
However, as some of the Blazeredge comments were worrying about, this does not mean that the fans in Portland must start to think of most of us as being any different from that we they have always indicated that they imagine we are. Personally, my sympathy is only for Greg Oden, as a human being, but is not extended to either the City of Portland, or to their fanbase that has always taken great pains to malign the City of Los Angeles, and pour their bile and invective upon all Laker fans whether they are deserving of it, or not!

omg
this is painful. i actually semi-like the blazers. grandpa oden is one of my fav youngsters apart from drew and kevin durant
Ouch
Tough luck for Oden — he’s essentially been the only bright spot for a team otherwise struggling through chemistry problems and Roy and Aldridge regressing. Hope he doesn’t take it too hard on himself; he needs confidence more than ever at this point.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Really well said
When I first heard of this injury i looked through the comment boards on the various news posts. A few were hopefull for Oden wishing him a speedy recovery but the vast majority were completely negative; calling him a bust and what not.
I felt bad for the guy. I watched him in college and thought he might be the second coming of Bill Russel- incredible timing— i couldnt belive his blocks! only to see him hit hard by injuries…
Its overwhelming what people will say about an athlete when he goes down, Some say: so what? he makes millions! but thats not considering what it must do to a man when he sees massive amounts of stuff like that written about him, and belive me— just like we check our computers, they do too..
The general publics reaction to all the Iverson news coming out was enough to reduce Allen, clearly a proud man, to tears at his press confrence— so many people beating down on someones character and supposed level of ability is bound to take its toll.
I’m new here ( but not new to the Lakers or the game of basketball, Ive been following both for over 30 years) . A post like this about an opposing teams player makes me proud to be a part of SSR, Thanks.

Bynum’s constant injuries really showed me how much an injury affects your team, both mentally and playing-wise. Quick apologies to the guys over at Blazersedge and a quick “Get well soon” to Greg Oden, who seemed like he and Andrew could form a less famous version of Wilt and Russell
Shaquille O'Neal: "Tell him Shaq doesn’t respond to juvenile delinquents without a college degree. Tell him to get his degree, and we can talk. In the meantime, he should call me Dr. Shaq because I’m working on my PhD." (Referring to 17-year-old rookie Andrew Bynum, who compared himself to Shaq…except that he can make free throws.)

thats great!
I like the analogy of those two as a less famous Wilt and Russel, I loved reading about those two giants and scouring old footage for anything i could find on thier match ups. Its to bad we wont get to see this new generation of big men go head to head this year.
Bynum does fit the mold as the more athletic and offensive minded of the two but god Wilts numbers were beastly to the point where Jordan could even be considered the second greatest player.

give them some love. its like signing your name at the door before the eulogy. sad times.
Lakers, Hurricanes, Dolphins
Imagine my sports world in the 80's. They're almost back, 'ceptin the Dolphins
So Sad
Terrible News.
I was looking forward to seeing Oden V. Bynum. But now I’m hoping for a speedy recovery.
People are so pessimistic about Oden, they call him a bust and claim he wont ever play 75 games+ in his career. He’s a young guy and I hope he’ll be able to prove himself and show us what kind of player he is, injury free.
sidenote: Bynum, stay healthy :/

Fuck this blows. Such a nice guy to.
It’s funny all the nice guys get hurt (Bynum, Oden, G. Hill, Livingston) yet KG has only had one serious injury.
By the way, the Blazers’ blog has a fan post on Oden and it is reaching 1000 hits (996 to be exact). Talk about fan appreciation.
