Using the "Rec" Function in Comments Section
I feel as though the "rec" function is underutilized here at SSR.
Rec is short for "recommend". After 3 recommendations by different users, a comment will become highlighted in the thread.
You may notice at the end of each comment there is a number of recs.
Example:
He just looks for every possible questionable call he can find to justify his lame screen name.
by pslakerfan on Dec 26, 2009 11:59 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Now, I've noticed that people like to give "points" in their reply to a particularly funny, insightful, or accurate comment.
In addition to writing "+1", might I suggest you also give a rec?
You do that by clicking on the word "actions" underneath the comment. It will then turn into either "rec" or "flag".
After you click "rec", you will see that the number of recs will increase by one.
You can only rec a comment once.
After 3 recs by 3 different users, the comment will turn green, highlighting it so that all will stop and take a look at the comment!
(Go ahead and use this thread to practice your "rec"ing skills, and rec some comments to see them turn green!)

I rec’d your fanpost.
As I am sure you know sufficiently rec’d fanposts stay on the sidebar longer.

Yeah, it's something that's surprising under-utilized here
Guess it’s part of the culture of each blog.

How about a complementary post on flagging trolls instead of responding to them?

Maybe if we can get a rec'd post to turn Purple....
instead of Green (puke) we would use it more often.

This is a pretty cool technique
I just learned about it about 2 weeks ago. That’s good that it was brought up on how to use it. Maybe if we can figure a way to highlight a troll’s comments to indicate someone who is just looking to instigate a fight and should be ignored.

That is what the "Flag" button is for.
However, only the moderator(s) see the flag (which is a good thing, as it prevents purely retaliatory flagging).

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

let me guess.
Trying to see if you get rec’d. Fine I will play along.

Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

Naturally I was hoping to break the streak!
If not, it means 3 people are reccing Lebron > Kobe, which also works for me. Win win! Oh and reced.
Poster for next year? I'm thinking My Little Pony.
by Zaig on Jan 3, 2010 5:28 AM PST up reply actions 3 recs
Actually I rec'd it for a different reason. Being a logical guy I am sure you will agree.
You see I totally agree with this (Lebron>Kobe) since (>) is a quantitative symbol and not a qualitative one. Lebron is certainly quantitatively greater than Kobe (6’-8" 265>6’-5" 220). However if we want to use the symbol (>) correctly in relation to two basketball players I suppose it would look something like this.
24>23
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
by pslakerfan on Jan 3, 2010 1:14 PM PST up reply actions 4 recs
Word
Did Kobe ever come right out and say he changed to 24 because he wants to be 1 better than Jordan (and Lebron)?
This is a serious question. I don’t recall if he ever gave a reason for the change.
Poster for next year? I'm thinking My Little Pony.
by Zaig on Jan 3, 2010 11:16 PM PST up reply actions 3 recs
No he didn't, at least not that I am aware of.
Speculation ranged from “The new Jack Bauer” to “24/7” (Kobe and Lamar), to 24>23, to 24 second clock, to 24 hours in the day, etc.
Who knows.
