Lakers-Thunder Open Thread

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Lakers, Dec 22, 2009 7:30 PM PST

If you're tuning in tonight to see Shaun Livingston or Mike Wilks, I've got bad news for you. They're gone.

Not Brittany Murphy gone. Just waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder today to make room for Eric Maynor, whom they acquired in a trade from the Utah Jazz. All will be missed.

Drink tonight upon the following.

That last one will be music to my ears.

At least that’s what i’m drinking.

WELCOME BACK STU! I didn’t hate Hot Rod just his announcing.

"Michael Jordan once said the quality Bryant possessed that reminded him most of himself was the desire to distance himself from contemporaries."

Good to have Stu back.

I wasn’t all that fond of Hot Rod’s announcing either. For the 50th anniversary it was cool that he was able to do some.

Yeah, I want a center

Who turns it over on a ridiculous amount of his possessions, is overrated because he’s in a defensive system that maximizes his skills, and is not even remotely close to the offensive threat that Bynum is.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Dec 22, 2009 8:10 PM PST up reply actions

he isnt overrated defensively

he was a great defender before Timbadoe came over. Your dumb if you think this. He always tries and has a great toughness and defensive instincts about him that I like. We dont need him to be a hugh offensive threat anyways.

by desecrator09 on Dec 22, 2009 8:12 PM PST up reply actions

Except he habitually makes horrible mistakes on both ends of the floor

With his over-the-top physicality.

And in any case, the Lakers are currently first in the league in defensive efficiency. We don’t need more defensive players. If anything, we need our offense (currently 15th in the league in efficiency) to get better.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Dec 22, 2009 8:18 PM PST up reply actions

lol thats such BS

he hardly ever makes dumb decisions. And Bynum is hurting our offense currently.

by desecrator09 on Dec 22, 2009 8:20 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, being among the league leaders

In technicals and flagrants is something I want on my team.

And no, Bynum is not hurting our offense. You tend not to do so when you shoot 58% from the field. Our big problem is that we have no one that can shoot threes consistently. If you had bothered to read any of Dex’s material in the past few weeks you’d have noticed.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

Bynum missing cheap shots and being a complete no show in his last few games,

isnt huritng us? He will sometimes not show up at all on defense. You’ll never see Perkins be a no show

by desecrator09 on Dec 22, 2009 8:24 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, let's trade away Bynum

Because he sucked for the last couple games. Let’s ignore his previous two years and the first month of the season. So tempting to trade away huge talents with gigantic ceilings, and so tempting to kill the future cornerstone of our franchise.

Alright Timeout Lakers Now

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

It's insane.

I calculated it and if current trends continue, every player on the Blazers’ 15 man roster will be lost 1.28 times for surgery which takes them out for at least a month…

They’ve already had 7/15 guys go down in 30/82 games, and that’s the math…

Gasol should take most of the blame for not getting his shots

he’s never aggresive in establishing post position. He just stands there and watches the ball get passed around the perimeter. He’s gotta demand his shots on the court, not through the damn press.

The problem is Team Defense

As much as I want to blame an individual player like Fisher and Bynum this team better improve defensively. It’s a team sport. Kobe gambles too much, Gasol needs to man up, Bynum needs to help Fisher more because he gets burned so much but it’s Bynum and Gasol’s responsibility to defend the paing and rebound the fuckin ball. No complaints on Artest. as far as LO see Gasol comments.

I thought they were the best defensive team in the league...

It’s easy to see the glaring deficiencies when they play poorly, but they are way up there in defense.

good point

I have a tendency to be too hard on this team. FYI…that is why one of my past screen pics was chicken little. : )

I do too, and actually would have been there with you

Had I not read one of Dexter’s posts earlier today (showing defensive rate, etc).

Now, it still doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and counter some of the holes that were obvious today; not getting back on defense, offensive rebounds (again), quick guards getting to the rack, etc.

I saw that...

I thought the same thing. But I try to seperate stats from what I see on TV. But those stats don’t lie. But you are 100% right.
