does the announcer really say “miss it!”?
"This is not a game for boys. This is a game for men." - Phil Jackson
I imagine he was standing up with his headset on
And stepped forward, like when someone tries to make you flinch, then slumped his shoulders when it went in.
In fact, I’m going to go back and just watch Skiles and the bench, and then look for the announcer.

Better than "Hot Rod"
man, it’s incredibly uncomfortable to listen to Joel and “Hot Rod” duke it out on the mic. They kept talking over eachother and saying the same thing. Hot Rod needs to just let Joel talk. Can’t wait for Stu’s return

The man makes shots
Thats his 2 buzzer beater so far, teams still haven’t learned, hope it doesn’t always come down to Kobe at the end of games. Lakers must continue to get better on D.
There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.
"Miss it"
What a douchebag. We really are lucky in LA with our announcers.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Phil told Kobe, who missed at regulation buzzer: “Why’d u keep us waiting? Really, we wasted 30 min of our lives.”

was listening to the final 2 frames in my car
and not gonna lie i changed the station when we went down six in OT. I checked back though in time to hear the 3 point play call and the buzzer beater by Kobe. Remarkable stuff! Thought this one was going to be a let down after listening to the first half.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
Why would you do that?
You gotta take the good and the bad. OK, you don’t have to do anything, but it makes the winning more sweet when you experience the losing too.

yeah, i dunno
i have a thing with the Lakers. I don’t take very well to them losing. For all my love of the sport, I can’t read SSR or ESPN when they lose for a day. I also turn off games that they are getting blown out of. I dunno, can’t handle it.

toughen up man!!
its just sports and its not like you have any control over what they do. I used to be as passionate as you are but over the last couple years, ive learned not to get so worked up over sports in general because I have absolutley no control over what goes on. I recommend you think like that.

They already have a Fanpost at Celtics Blog (lamest name in blog history, BTW).....
about the bad call at the end of the game. Really. Of course I don’t condone commenting about it.

yeah i agree
dont comment on it
or else youll get automatically banned
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
Nah, I have been commenting there for 2 years without getting banned.
Warned once, but never banned. Funny thing is the warning was for a comment that wasn’t bad at all. I think I said the word “Jesus” and got warned about swearing.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Cue in:
Paul Pierce with an academy award over there.
Kidding, but great pic ha

Yeah they are only Christian...
If you are an infidel (Laker fan).

show them this angle

watch Bogut’s feet as he never establishes position

hmm, I dunno...
Pretty sure you’re allowed to retreat (as a defender) and still draw the charge. Looks to me like he’s moving directly backward. Kobe is still somewhat O.C. and in many such cases that player is called for the charge.
The ideal angle would have been from the backboard camera. That was the angle that showed definitively that Jermaine O’Neal committed the blocking foul late in the Miami game (the prelude to the longer buzzer beater). In this case I don’t think the play was that blatant, but perhaps that angle would show the subtle lean or shoulder turn that often leads refs to call the block. At any rate I don’t see any of those in that Youtube clip.
With so much ambiguity
Really should have been a no-call, right?

I can see the way Bucks fan is thinking...
…but yes, I think—speaking as a Lakers fan, of course—that it probably should have been a no-call, and would have been happy with that (count the bucket, but no foul).
I would like to see the overhead (backboard-cam) shot. That really gives you the best picture on whether Bogut was drifting to either side. So far I haven’t seen it. When I saw the O’Neal play live I thought it might have been a charge. From that overhead angle it is blatantly obvious that it wasn’t and was in fact a block.
Actually, Kobe traveled, then!
Because of the contact, he takes more steps

not sure
I’m not doubting you, I’m really not sure. He picked up the ball later than he normally does on a jump stop. He picked up the ball fully in the air, then landed on his left, stepped with his right, then rose up for the shot on his left. Is that a walk with the new rules or not? Gotta go check.
okay
Checked the rule. If the last two feet (right, then left) had landed simultaneously, not a travel. Since there’s no such thing as perfect simultaneity, officials typically give some leeway on the timing of the feet. However, on the slow-motion replay at least, there seems to be a lot of time between those two feet landing on the floor. Gotta say, then, absent any other call on the defenders, that should have resulted in a travelling violation.
Which should have resulted in a travelling violation on Kobe
Either way you slice it, it’s a tough one to swallow for non Laker fans.
Look, I'm not saying this because I dislike the C's
But “Celtics Blog” is by far the most boring/lamest name for a team website.

Avery Johnson hating
said that the blocking foul was a travel first, and then a clear charge. He sounded really pissed too. Was Bogut’s feet moving at all when KB ran into him? Couldnt tell.
It was a charge.
I don’t think you can dispute that. However I think we win in regulation if Artest doesn’t get the total bullshit “reputation” technical. I know it doesn’t really work that way but the point is that a bad call is a bad call, there are plenty to choose from.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
dammit
its great and all kobe hits the gamwinner
but now everyones gonna nitpick on that one questionable call for the next few days….ugh
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
theres questionable calls through the whole game
plus, just remember that the Bucks were still up 1 with 5 seconds to go. Its not like that one play decided the whole game.
by desecrator09 on Dec 16, 2009 9:02 PM PST up reply actions
true
they had chances to win
but they blew it
Bogut missed that FT before the end of regulation
and Redd missed that driving layup on the second to last play of the game.
the lakers did what almost every other team woulda done and took advantage.
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
they had chances to win
but they blew it
Ridiculous, I hope we never win like that again

I had to play that back a couple of times
because I couldn’t believe he actually said that, lame.
"If you don't take out his battery, he's going to keep going all day."
Gasol and Kobe combined for.....
65 and 29. Nice.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Unfortunately
The Lakers are like the Cowboys and the Yankees, a millions of bandwagon fans from all over America rooting for them for no reason except they are the best.
IMO nothing worse than a bandwagon fan. Every single Milwaukee resident should be a fan of the Bucks unless they were born and raised somewhere else. And I think its safe to say that not too many people (if any) move from LA to Milwaukee (or anywhere else for that matter).
Whatever, GO LAKERS…what a fricken shot!!!!!

I grew up in Southern Calirfonia
and im living in Dallas now! I always see Laker fans out here! We are everywhere!
It's funny that Ty says to ignore the "Miss it!" comment
That’s the second best part of watching the video!
I'm not in denial, I'm just selective about the reality I choose to accept.
Amusing but unprofessional
I think the Miss It! comment is amusing because Kobe didn’t miss, if he had, not so amusing.
In either case, very unprofessional. I understand some announcers’ tendencies toward homerism, but that may have been a bit too much in my opinion.
I'm not in denial, I'm just selective about the reality I choose to accept.
No doubt
It’s funny, but not in a way the announcer should be proud of.
And he’s going to have to live with that forever, because 75% of basketball fans probably you tubed that play.
