Ron Artest sympathizes with Tiger
Man, Ron Ron is at it again. It appears that there is no subject Ron isn't willing to make a public statement about. A recent ESPN report details Laker's Forward Ron Artest expression of sympathy for Tiger Woods.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4746588
The article left me thinking two things:
a) What does it say about Ron, knowing he supports a guy who cheated on a beautiful woman, for 5-12 glorified gold diggers. From porn stars to reality stars, Tiger Woods has fallen far off his pedestal. His dramatic fall from favor is undoubtedly the hot topic of the month, rivaling Michael Jackson's death (a subject which brought about Ron's current uniform number).
and
b) Why can't Ron just keep his mouth shut for once. It seems Ron is constantly making needless comments or doing strange publicity stunts. From giving away his cell phone number on twitter, to admitting his drinking problem during halftime, Ron is constantly drawing attention to himself. It's very unbecoming of a Laker. If he wants to keep making headlines, I suggest he take a page from Kobe, and do it with his play on the court, and not with his mouth. In the 20 years I've been a Laker fan, the Lakers have never had a player so outspoken while playing for the Lakers, and that includes bad boys Dennis Rodman and Isiah Rider. Ron if you truly want to repair your image, keep your mouth shut, and play ball.

I think
that he is sympathizing with the media teardown Tiger is experiencing. I mean even I feel sorry for Tiger. I think it is a private matter and i always take issue with the media thinking it has a place in celebrity living room and homes. Sure I think he’s wrong for doing it, but I don’t know the whole story so why even speculate. Let his wife deal with it as she seems apt to do so.
here’s where we disagree….
I feel bad for Tiger’s FAMILY that this has to go on in the media spotlight.
It’s sad that all our “so-called” role models pretty much end up dissapointing us in the end. Athletes sympathizing with Tiger is coming from the wrong place, when there are so many comitting adultery. What kind of message does that send when you have “role models” lending support to other guys who screwed up royally. I feel the sympathy is coming more from the fact they are sorry he got caught cheating, rather than the cheating itself. Tiger is pretty intelligent guy from what I’ve seen, and he had to know that eventually his little sex escapades were going to bite him.
Why is it so hard for athletes to recognize what they are doing wrong before it comes to the point of getting caught. I understand he is human and everyone makes mistakes, but Tiger clearly has a problem.
Tiger’s idiocacy aside, does Ron really think Tiger really wants Ron Artest to be backing him up. That’s like saying you want OJ Simpson being there to support you. This isn’t a case of Ron showing support for a dear friend, or really doing anything to help the situation. This is more Ron being Ron, trying to draw attention to himself.
In Kobe we trust!
For one thing he is only a role model to those that have no substance in life.
Unless he is actually mentoring a person, there is no way someone can claim him as a role model. People fall out of Love all the time, and have affairs and get divorced it happens. I as a person would never have a stranger for a role model and not even a good friend, now family is another thing. The media doesn’t care what happens they just what print, and putting down Ron is totally ridiculous.

thats kind of rude to say people who call artest a role model substantless. I am sure lots of people who grew up in an environment where your at risk of gangs, drugs, etc look up to him. It’s not that they have no substance, its just thats the environment they were born into. I don’t relate to that perspective, but I don’t find it hard to imagine that despite all his troubles, ron artest is a success story. I know guys from hs that were extremely talented basketball/football players, and they got mixed up in bad crowds and ended up going nowhere in life. so to say ron artest isnt admirable for at risk youth is ridiculous.
I appreciate that he stays true to himself, but at the same time I wish he could be a less outspoken during basketball season.
In Kobe we trust!
Who is really at fault,
The media who covers the story or the stay at home housewives (bad generality, I know) that end up buying the tabloids?
We fully knew what we were getting ourselves into when we got Ron
So I think the second point is pretty much moot.
As far as your first point goes, athletes usually support each other so it’s really no surprise. It’s like a brotherhood. Most noticeable example would be in football. It makes sense that these guys would have each other’s backs.
And besides, cheating on your wife is probably very common with athletes anyways.
Good post Robi S...
My opinion is that as weird as it soundsI understand what he is saying and it makes perfect sense. As Laker fans we all know what to expect of him and we all knew what type of player we were getting.
As far as what it says about Ron supporting Woods is really not much. It is similar to Laker fans support of Kobe who is also knowns for his past indiscretions. It doesn’t say anything about Artest I think. Just like me being a fan and supporting Kobe. I love his game on the court and I love and respect him as a player.
I also think that the biggest loud mouth who couldn’t keep his mouth shut and almost cost us to loose Kobe is Shaq. Ron will always be Ron and as long as he doesn’t do anything detrimental the causes the Lakers a title and as long as he wears the Purple and Gold I stand by him and whatever he does. That is just my opinion but of course everyone is entitled to their own.

I love how the media ad libs...
Artest made headlines when he told a magazine he would get drunk during games while with Chicago
Where did he EVER say he used to “get drunk” during games???

I hate when they do that shit
That is so common with everything that they report.

“Why can’t Ron just keep his mouth shut for once. It seems Ron is constantly making needless comments or doing strange publicity stunts. From giving away his cell phone number on twitter, to admitting his drinking problem during halftime, Ron is constantly drawing attention to himself.”
I think Ron has a narcissistic need to draw attention to himself whenever possible. He can do this one of two ways:
a) off the court
b) on the court
You choose…….. =)
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
wow
the media continues to take a crap on tiger
yeah i know what he did was very wrong
but it isnt right for them to point the spotlight on him so much
it is none of our business what he did…imo
now theyre saying he mighta taken steroids
cause a former trainer was linked to trying to smuggle them into the country
not sure his image will ever recover from this mess…
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
Tiger Woods is a role model
By defenition. Whether he likes it or not he is a role model. Either way, it isn’t his choice or anyone else’s. What makes him a role model is that he is a public figure and kids look up to him. For those of you who might not remember, Barkeley had Nike commercials in which he used to claim “i’m not a role model” but it wasn’t his choice. That is like claiming you are the “Chosen one” but the public hasn’t anointed you that title. It is up to the public. Parents can understand this more. Let’s say you have a kid who looks up to Tiger and wants to play golf because Tiger inspired him to play a sport that teaches decipline. Then that child see’s him on the news and starts asking you questions about him, what do you tell him/her? Does that not make him a role model the fact that he has that effect on your child and he/she looks up to him? Does Tiger have control over that?

If you don't explain how it all works to your kid it's on you not the celebrity, if you can't see that then you better not raise any kids.

huh?
it has nothing to do with how you raise kids. You missed the point by a mile. That is not the point. The point was whether Tiger Woods is or isn’t a role model. I’ll put it in bold so that it isn’t missed again. The point is that by the simple fact that Woods is admired by kids makes him a role model.
One of the things that makes it difficult to discuss things on here is when someone ignores the obvious topic and takes someone else’s comment(s) and turns the conversation into something else. Perfect example:
“you better not raise any kids” now can someone tell me where that comment fits into the whole role model topic?

Obviously you don't get it so thats cool!
I have been coaching Athletics from 4-25 years of age for 25+ years, and as soon as I found out that a kid looked up to me as a role model I had a talk with their parents. Only family or guardian should be a kids role model, but that is my opinion and I am like everyone else we all have one.
Peace didn’t mean to touch you off.

lol...omg! now your going even further off topic
that is hilarious. Trust me I don’t get emotional about this stuff. I just think that you are way off. But I can see where your point of view is from. You approach things from a self centered point of view. You look at comments and you disagree with them based on your own personal experiences. And if they don’t agree with your experiences then you take this, “the world is wrong” point of view. if i’m wrong then explain the following:
I as a person would never have a stranger for a role model and not even a good friend, now family is another thing.
I have been coaching Athletics from 4-25 years of age for 25+ years, and as soon as I found out that a kid looked up to me as a role model I had a talk with their parents
The world doesn’t revolve only around the experiences that you had in your life. We all have different point of views.

Sorry, but I can't blame RonRon or Barkley for supporting Tiger.
That is what friends are supposed to do. I don’t think Tiger supporting Barkley during DUI’s or gambling problems means that he condones them, I just think he is being a friend.
Besides when you have friends like Barkley, Jordan, and Ron Ron, infidelity doesn’t seem like much of a stretch does it?
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
