Lakers-Timberwolves Open Thread

Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers, Dec 11, 2009 7:30 PM PST

Lamar Odom gets the thread pic and all associated mojo tonight. Make the most of your time, Lamar! You're likely to get off work early in favor of the Taco Unit.

Your drinking-game triggers for this one include any mention of the following.

It's Friday night, my peoples, so crack a bottle. The Lakers are favored by 16.

Favored by 16?

I’d take the wolves on that bet. Either this game is close and the Lakers win by about 10 late in the 4th, or its a blowout and the taco unit lets the wolves chisel the lead down to about 10 :)

Yeah I agree either one is possible

but Lakers should win easily and let the bench figure things out at the end

I have actually kept pretty close track of the odds for the Lakers at home.

They tend to not cover the spread against bad teams (big odds) and beat the spread against good teams.

Well to be honest that tendency was mostly last season.

This season they are doing better against the bad teams.

I would say giving away tacos that cost about 10 cents to make.....

and then selling a coke for $1.75 that costs about 10 cents, makes it a pretty good deal for them. At least that’s the idea.

From Wikipedia

An avulsion fracture is a bone fracture which occurs when a fragment of bone tears away from the main mass of bone as a result of physical trauma. This can occur at the ligament due to the application forces external to the body (such as a fall or pull) or at the tendon due to a muscular contraction that is stronger than the forces holding the bone together. Generally muscular avulsion is prevented due to the neurological limitations placed on muscle contractions.

If the fracture is small, it is usually sufficient to treat with rest and support bandage, but in more severe cases surgery may be required. Ice may be used to relieve swelling.

by DexterFishmore on Dec 11, 2009 8:57 PM PST reply actions

So I suppose it depends on the extent of the fracture

Knowing Kobe, he’ll wear tape or a splint and let it heal rather than get surgery.

I never said I didn’t like you, so I don’t see why I should have to ignore you. While you have stated that you don’t like this and this about what Ben R does. I was simply making an argument for why it was off base to tell him to stop commenting.

But completely ignoring my comment is okay too. :)

I don't see why Ben should have to stop

He’s the one bringing the facts and the analysis. I thought this site placed a value on that. The tactic you mention isn’t nearly as annoying as the person that’s wrong moving the goalposts to keep a crippled and lopsided argument alive.

There’s no way Kahn would give up Sessions for the Lakers junk, and there’s no real reason that the Lakers need him.

by pslakerfan on Dec 11, 2009 9:49 PM PST up reply actions

Don’t argue with him. His main argument is always that he’s “watched” the player more so than the person he’s arguing with. Before Oden went down with an injury, he told me that Oden was not getting into foul trouble, instead arguing that Nate preferred Pryz over Oden, which is why Greg wasn’t playing many minutes.

Then when I showed him the game logs which showed Oden was constantly in foul trouble – no response from him.

by intuitive on Dec 11, 2009 9:39 PM PST up reply actions

And you were wrong. When I showed you so, you never said anything afterwards.

Even when the game logs show Oden was in constant foul trouble AND timbo who watches the Blazers as much, if not more, than he watches the Lakers agreed with my assessment.

by intuitive on Dec 11, 2009 9:49 PM PST up reply actions

I think pslakerfan would have a problem with this. He just called out Ben for calling a conversation finished when he felt the discussion was over.

I hope he, meaning pslakerfan, calls you out on it too since he was so inclined to call out Ben.

I don’t understand why it’s such a big deal. No one complains when you make joke after joke. Every poster provides something different, and brings something different to the site. If you don’t like the things Ben R says (or how he says them) simply scroll over and ignore his comment.

by intuitive on Dec 11, 2009 9:58 PM PST up reply actions

actually they do complain about my jokes.

At least the ones without a sense of humor.

And I have been ignoring it for a few weeks now. If I hadn’t been ignoring it people like you would already know what I was talking about and I wouldn’t have to keep mentioning it.

Now it’s out there. Maybe he will quit, maybe he won’t. But you will remember every time you see it. That was kinda the point.

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

by pslakerfan on Dec 11, 2009 10:00 PM PST up reply actions

I’ve already seen it and I have no problem with it because sometimes the things people say on this website are outlandish and aren’t backed up by any specific examples or analysis. Calling someone out when they’re talking out of their ass, I have no problem with. That’s just me though. I dont speak for the whole website and tell others what to do, but I have no problem when someone calls someone else out when they’re obviously wrong. I wouldn’t mind if someone told me I was wrong either.

Thats just a difference of opinion between you and me. I’ve already noticed he does these things, but he wouldn’t be inclined to do so if people didn’t say things that are obviously not true.

If you ignored him for a “few weeks now” maybe you should just continue to ignore him for the whole duration of the time you spend on this website.

Instead of telling Ben to stop doing commenting in the manner he comments in, maybe you should be the one to just ignore and stop reading his comments.

by intuitive on Dec 11, 2009 10:05 PM PST up reply actions

that should obviously be “stop commenting” and not “stop doing commenting”

by intuitive on Dec 11, 2009 10:06 PM PST up reply actions

by pslakerfan on Dec 11, 2009 10:08 PM PST up reply actions

You don't have a problem calling someone out when they are talking out of their ass....

And I don’t have a problem calling someone out when they are acting like the argument police.

What is the difference?

I guess people being bossy is one of my pet peeves. Maybe people talking out of their ass is one of yours.

Again, what is the difference?

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

by pslakerfan on Dec 11, 2009 10:11 PM PST up reply actions

The complaints about Ben seem hypocritical

Considering the whole pslakerfan vs. Zaig dramafest, which, to be honest, seems to be perpetuated by the former rather than the latter, which I find far more annoying than any of Ben’s mannerisms.

thanks for the insight.

You are totally proving my point which is “just let people hash it out”. That’s kinda what pslakerfan vs zaig was all about.

Again thanks for all of your help.

by pslakerfan on Dec 11, 2009 10:15 PM PST up reply actions

I guess my definition of "hashing it out" is different

For me, after hashing something out I no longer feel the need to take shots at that person whenever he posts something unrelated to your argument. But that’s just me.

In any case, I have no interest in being the next Zaig for you to tee off on so this is my last word here on the issue. Glad I could help you see that your behavior has, at times, been worse than what you’ve criticized. Last word is yours.

You’re welcome.
