Kareem to Memphis!

Either they are hard up for a veteran Center or they need someone to coach their big men. Hopefully its the later. If Kareem can bring out the potential of Bynumite. I think he might do well over there with M. Gasol and Thabeet. I just hope they don't become like Micheal Olowokandi, when Kareem worked with him while with the Clips. Talk about a failed experiment!

i'm just paraphrasing what I read but..

…Kareem said that during practice he pointed out to Olowakandi what he was doing wrong and Olawakandi pulled him to the side and told him not to call him out like that. Which lead Kareem to believe that players that sensitive will never be great.

Thanks for backing me up!

I tried to find Kareem’s actual comments on Olowakandi but couldn’t. Thanks for remembering Purple and Gold For life.

It's definitely real

A variety of sources have confirmed Memphis’ interest.

I never would post anything fake.

I’m a big fan of this site and respect many of the post here. I only rarely post anything because pretty much everyone gets the drop on the news before I do. But I happened to find the article at Insidehoops.com and wanted to share with all my fellow fans of Laker Nation.

Commercial Appeal is the main Memphis newspaper... The owner came to LA with the team and met with Kareem.

I had a bit on this in View 06, near the bottom.

Here it is again...
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar May Help Grizzlies’ Big Men

by Ronald Tillery, Memphis Commercial Appeal

LOS ANGELES — The Grizzlies still are in “serious negotiations” with NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to help coach their centers, according to team owner Michael Heisley.

Abdul-Jabbar visited Memphis on Oct. 25 to attend a practice and meet with Griz players and management. Heisley said both sides are trying to iron out a working arrangement.

“It’s a matter of how much time Kareem will give to us,” Heisley said. “We’re trying to come to an understanding of how Kareem will work. I want to make sure we’re getting somebody who will give attention to these kids and help them. He’s got a lot of commitments.”

Abdul-Jabbar, 62, is under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers after having tutored Andrew Bynum over the past several seasons. Memphis, however, asked for and received permission from the Lakers to speak with Abdul-Jabbar.

“He wants to come and we want him to come,” Heisley said. “It’s really a question of whether he’s got commitments that will keep him away from the team more than we’d like.”

The Griz have three centers — two of whom are considered projects — who could benefit from Abdul-Jabbar’s knowledge and experience. Marc Gasol, Hamed Haddadi, and rookie Hasheem Thabeet met Abdul-Jabbar for dinner last month. * *

Not only should the Lakers let Memphis have Kareem...

but they should pay his salary and supply the entire city of Memphis with a lifetime supply of that sweet, sweet Cali chronic to help them forget about the Gasol trade and their shiesty owner.
