Lakers Cruise, New Jersey Lies in Wait
It's a Saturday night, and the opponent was of the C-List variety. It's a holiday weekend, and the UCLA-USC football game aired simultaneously. Given all this, tonight's game against the Golden State Warriors might well turn out to be the least-viewed Lakers contest of the year. Too bad if true, because the Lakers treated those who watched to the most dominating beatdown of their season to date.
L.A. rolled Golden State 130-97 behind a coldly efficient offensive assault. They turned the ball over only eight times, hit 11 long balls and put the game out of reach with a 26-10 run in the third that stretched a nine-point lead to 25. Laker starters logged some comfy benchtime, none playing more than 32 minutes. It was a businesslike execution of a menial foe.
Also, Lamar Odom was singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" on his way out of the showers.
Now, of course, comes the Game of the Decade on Sunday night. The New Jersey Nets are here, and they intend to burn Staples to the ground. Will this be an NBA Finals preview? Can L.A. find its "A Game" in time to withstand the New Jersey blitzkrieg? The Lakers' only chance will be to keep it close into the fourth quarter, and then hope a few bounces go their way.
Join us on Sunday evening for what's sure to be a playoff-type atmosphere.

I live in oakland and am a die hard lakers fan.
but this game made me feel bad to be an oaklander.the lake show are just great in every aspect of the game.i’m ready for real competion like boston, denver or cleveland because the way are defense is playing its going to be hard for a team to score a 100 points on us. our team is unstoppable right now
Joel and Stu do have their facepalm moments
But they usually are very critical of the Laker players, especially if they aren’t playing correctly. I remember Stu was mad at the Lakers for giving up the three during the 1st Rockets game this year when (I believe) we had a foul to give.
As lame as Stu’s “nooooiiiiiiiiiiiiiice” can be, I do think they dial down the homer-isms and they seem a lot more informed than most announcers. I hate it when people still say Sasha’s the self-proclaimed “Machine.”

Joel and Stu's homerism is a lot more toned down than most of the other team's announces
But they definitely still show the favortism. I guess when you’re listening from the other side, any bit if “bias” is always displeasing.
On a side note though, one of them really likes making fun of DJ and Sasha….
Finally the Bench showed no mercy!
So I have no complaints :) It’s nice to see the lead grow for a change instead of a leadback.
I only hope they’re able to keep and extend leads for future games consistently.
Tomorrow’s game has “trap game” written all over it:
Winless Nets. As bad as I feel for them, I don’t want the Lakers to be their first win of the seasn. Back to back at home after a blowout. It’s just asking for lackadaisical play.
I’m imagining the headlines if the Lakers do fall for the trap game. Very mortifying.
Also, I’m sorry I couldn’t say it on Thursday, but I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and a fun Black Friday,

I hope the Lakers don't take the Nets as lightly as we fans do
Every team in the NBA has a chance of winning any given night, including the pitiful Nets.

Nets to fire Lawrence Frank after Lakers game

Ouch
Isn’t really his fault, but that team needs some sort of spark.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Unfortunately for him,
Firing a coach usually provides a team that spark ala Hornets this year.

And the Suns last year?
and this year-ish?
Were there about 7 coaches fired last year?
We’re already two coaches in this year.

Again, a bit different
The problem with Frank isn’t his style of play or his coaching ability — he’s a good coach by any measure. The problem is that the team has tuned him out, and simply isn’t working hard for him anymore. It isn’t really his fault given the massive amounts of losing this team has gone through for the last few years due to having all their key players traded away. In this case, firing Frank to provide a change in atmosphere becomes the better way forward.
With Porter, the system that he was instituting simply didn’t work. It negated Phoenix’s most prominent advantages — namely Nash’s play-making ability — and made them more focused on a rejuvenated-but-not-dominant Shaq. Gentry changed the system as a whole in order to make the pieces work better. Similarly, Scott’s ouster earlier this season, which led to Bower (or rather Floyd, who does the actual coaching) playing more than one offensive set and playing the rookies, was a change in the system.
Whoever replaces Frank isn’t necessarily going to change the system, as there’s arguably not a whole lot Frank could have done with this team otherwise; it’s simply a matter of a new voice to instill more effort and discipline.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Eh, I would put more blame on Carlesimo for that
Playing Durant at the two wasn’t helping him or the team.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Eek poor Lawrence Frank
How do you coach a team knowing you’ll be fired afterwards?

that sucks
that guy was a good coach
his players I think let him down…
not his fault, he was just in an ugly situation
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
im starting to wonder if rambo is next
the timberwolves are like 1-15 or something like that… :(
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
it seems to me that
from what I have read that the team is just waiting for Al Jefferson to come back.
I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

they have a self proclaimed "rebuilding year"
so they’ll probably wait a year before doing anything…
Looks like they fired him before the Lakers game
ouch.
I hope they won’t find their spark until after the game

He’s been fired and won’t coach the Lakers game anymore.
As Y! reported, Thorn wanted to wait until team returned Monday, but ultimately felt it was best for Frank and team to make move today.
Rod Thorn planned to inform ownership today that he would fire Frank Monday, but sped up process after Y! story late Sat nite sources said.
Assistant coach Tom Barrise will coach the Nets tonight against the Lakers, a source said.
Makes sense
Once you’ve decided to can a guy, there’s no point in dragging it out.

Good game
Aside from Kobe having an off-night, practically everyone played well — the bench executed their sets well, Artest decided more than once that overpowering his way to the rim is good, and Pau demonstrated why he’s one of the best players in the league. And on top of that, we had our ShanWOW garbage time dunk, which is probably the best victory cigar we can possibly put out there.
As for the Nets, there are only three real worries — Harris, Douglas-Roberts, and Lopez. Harris is still hobbled by his injury, so he doesn’t have the same explosiveness, but he still draws fouls by the bushel. Fisher is going to have a hard time, so either Farmar (size disadvantage) or Brown (speed disadvantage) will have to compensate. Douglas-Roberts has been decent as essentially the Nets key scoring wing, but Artest should slow him down. The big problem for Lopez is that he will be worked continuously on the defensive end by both Gasol and Bynum, and he isn’t well-suited to the volume of shots he needs to put up for the Nets due to the lack of other offensive options.
All that said, we should expect a 15-20 point differential, and I’m reading a bit too deep into this, but it’s nice to identify the only ways this team might somehow prevent 0-17.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Gotta love Warrior fans.............
I guess the only way to continue to love a losing team for 20 or 30 years is to keep a delusional positive attitude….
Apparently they lost because:
a) the refs love the Lakers
b) the Lakers spend more money
c) Artest is a Thug
d) Kobe said something to their bench during the game (shame, shame)
e) The Lakers never get called for 3 seconds…………never.
f) maybe something about the Warriors sucking…….not sure, hard to get through the other crap.
Sad, really sad. =(
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Don't speak for *all* Warrior fans
I’m one of them, and I can acknowledge that we scraped together a team that (aside from Monta and Curry) should be your bench’s bench.
I wish we’d given you all a better fight. Good game. Insults such as calling a fanbase delusional are not needed.
LOL
You are talking about “insults”….. Try reading your blog, then come back and talk about “insults”.
Of course I am not speaking for all Warrior fans, that would be ridiculous. If delusional is the worst way I could describe the reaction over at GSOM then you should consider my comment quite fair.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Here I will give you a little help.
Right off the bat we get this….
“Final score: Lakers $91,377,313 – Warriors $65,644,330. Those are the respective payrolls of Jerry Buss’ Lakers, and Chris Cohan’s Warriors. Do I need to go any further in analyzing this basketball game?”
Then this……
“If there’s one thing the Warriors lack that the Lakers have it’s this: the talented Hollywood D-lister off the bench. Mr. Khloe Kardashian, check.”
This might be my favorite excuse for losing by 33 points….
“I think it was then the Warriors realized they were not going to get a call from these awful officials so there really wasn’t a point to trying hard if they weren’t going to get a call to begin with.”
Hey look another excuse for losing by 33…..
“Ron Artest had the ball on the three point line with Corey Maggette guarding him, Artest then swung his arm out and hit Maggette in the face, no offensive foul and instead a drive to the basket by Artest for a three point play to push the lead back to 12. The Warriors never recovered from that.”
In case you were wondering you shot the same number of free throws (24) as the team (Lakers) that lead the league in points in the paint. So a jump shooting team shoots the same number of free throws as a points-in-the-paint team…..and you got screwed on all the calls?
I suppose delusional wasn’t the right word. I will get back to you when I think of a better one.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Fair enough
Still. Just take the victory with a grain of salt, yes?

Of course.
Our problem has always been losing games that we should win by 30.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
Lakers favored by 14.5 tonight against Nets.
Spurs favored by 11.5 tonight against 76ers.
3 point difference? Seems low. I guess Vegas has seen our bench play too.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
We could win by 1 for all I care
I just do NOTwant to lose this game
Shaquille O'Neal: "Tell him Shaq doesn’t respond to juvenile delinquents without a college degree. Tell him to get his degree, and we can talk. In the meantime, he should call me Dr. Shaq because I’m working on my PhD." (Referring to 17-year-old rookie Andrew Bynum, who compared himself to Shaq…except that he can make free throws.)

when did he say that? lol

Kobe’s been mentoring Titan’s quarterback Vince Young
The winner of four N.B.A. titles in his first 13 seasons, Bryant, 31, was happy to mentor Young, 26, in much the same way, he said, that his father, Joe, and the N.B.A. stars Oscar Robertson and Jerry West guided him. Bryant’s mentoring has meant more to Young since July, when Steve McNair, the former Titans quarterback, was murdered. Young revered McNair and referred to him as Pops.
"I’ve been asking him different questions to help me get through the process I’m going through because he’s been through a whole lot of adversity and things like that," Young said of Bryant. "So why not try to get in his ear and see what he did to get back to the top where he is right now?"
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/29/sports/football/29young.html?_r=2
"I don’t care what people say about me, and that’s what he’s kind of learning," Bryant said. "At the end of the day, he has to perform. Kick butt and let them jump back on the bandwagon."
The Titans started 0-6 this season and were averaging 14.0 points with Collins under center when their owner, Bud Adams, exhorted Fisher to play Young. When Bryant heard that Young was going to start on Nov. 1 against Jacksonville, he sent a text message: "Let’s go. It’s showtime!"

haha
I can’t imagine myself getting that worked up over much more important things in real life; let alone what those guys are blathering on about on the internet.
It is kind of funny to think of that argument happening inside a Whole Foods or Jamba Juice or something like them.
Yeah, basically this rule......
“One of the main problems with the internet and its communities is that people can act the fool without consequence. If you were to walk into a Boston sports bar and start talking shit about the Celtics, you might get your ass beat, but on the internet, all they can do is ban you from the site. So, act on the site as you would in real life. (If you’re actually a confrontational jerk in real life, then ignore that, and just try to be cool here.)”

haha...so comical
it goes from kobe can work in the paint
to “shut up stupidkobe you stupid bitch” hahahahaha
Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!
Should be a blowout from the start
Goals of this game:
1. Bynum be a beast to better cement himself as an all-star this year.
2. Sasha hit a shot….Morrison too
3. Farmar not suck
4. Luke play (aint happening)
5. All six Laker starters (including Lamar) reach double figures

Bynum needs to show he can get it going against another legit bigman.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
let's be careful
new coach often inspires player, as does the threat of tying a truly horrific record….
also, it seems like a trap game… good teams like the celtics and cavs, like the lakers, lost to the pacers last year, and they really sucked….
OK, close your eyes and listen to Brook Lopez..............
Tell me you don’t suddenly picture Jeff Spicoli in your mind…..
