The Hollywood Acting Bug

For fun. which Los Angeles Lakers player has not been bitten by the acting bug?

Recently, Pau Gasol, made an appearance on CSI: Miami:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iy-qaX564M

Not too long before that, Jordan Farmar made a guest appearance on Numb3rs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWM5acvxJbM

A year before, both made a guest appearance as themselves on Numb3rs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4afVoSX1PQE

We all know LO loves the entertainment industry, with his own clothing line, music label, and appearance on his wife's reality tv show, not to mention his cameo appearance on the Busta Rhymes/Linkin Park "We Made It" music video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s8jy4djs24

Then this gem popped up of Shannon Brown (who looks waaaay too young to be Toni Braxton's lover. I thought he was playing her son at first. But he looks pretty hot) appearing in a Toni Braxton music video where he plays Toni's cheating boyfriend (with Brooke Hogan of all people) and Ron (who, like LO, is already into the entertainment business) also appears shirtless in it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y6AexL7o6A

And this got me thinking, if Shannon Brown, one of the players I thought on the Lakers that wouldn't go anywhere near the entertainment industry, would agree to be in a music video then which other players have also and which haven't?

Luke Walton's turn on soap acting was painful and thankfully, it doesn't seem like he'll be venturing in that realm again and Kobe used to when he first arrived in LA (remember his guest appearance on ALL THAT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fV1FP38ecI) though he hasn't recently, but what about players like D-Fish? J Mbenga? J-Peezy? Drew? Sasha? AMMO?

So who still has a date with Hollywood? Commercials and advertisements don't really count, or should they? That would scratch D-Fish off the list. I think TV Drama / Show appearances, music videos and movies count because at least those require some degree of acting, bad or good.

(I do recall Trevor Ariza appearing in a music video, no?)

Lots of movie making goes down here, Laker players are some of the most famous athletes in the world...

…it only makes sense

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Which is why it's fun to see them in these projects

it’s either painfully awkward or semi-enter

Yeah, I give it the nod towards awkward, almost always.

I’m sure that it’s not the players going out and looking for acting gigs (except Ron Ron of course). Studios are probably thinking what better way to garner attention than with a Laker right now…I’d say it works too. I’d never even heard of the show numb3rs until Farmar and Pau were on it.

Ummmm

Seriously? This post almost matches the “For Fun” Kardashian one. You guys have your priorities in order for sure!
Thanks for another hard-hitting expose on the glamour of the WNBA!

Go Nuggets.

There is plenty enough smart analytical pieces on the front page

If you don’t like this “fan” post then you didn’t need to read it or comment on it you pompous jerk.

What exactly does being a basketball fan have to do with priorities? There’s been no Laker game being played since Thursday and we’ve already exhausted the topic of how Pau Gasol’s return makes us that much better than every team in the NBA.

I suppose I could rant and rave about how the Lakers still need more time to integrate Pau and Ron, but that’s already been addressed. I suppose we can also discuss how excited we are for Kobe’s post game, but that’s already been done too. And I suppose we can also discuss how Bynum’s injury is day to day, but that’s already been done.

Part of being a fan of a team is also understanding when to poke fun at your team, especially when they make it easy to do so. So save the pompous, judgmental comments and learn to respect other team’s fanblogs. You are a guest on this blog and there’s no reason for you to be a troll, unless you want to be viewed as a troll, especially with a username like yours.

Very classy.

I'm totally fine with opposing teams' fans posting and commenting

but when opposing fans post belittling and insulting comments like “You guys have your priorities in order for sure!” or “Thanks for another hard-hitting expose on the glamour of the WNBA!” it’s so petty.

Then again, I guess if his team’s lost twice in a row to the same team, he would have pent up bitterness that he can’t help but make a troll out of himself.

Ahhhh

Did I hurt your feelers bubba? I’m sorry that I don’t like your team and every now and then it’s kind of fun to make some jokes…
You’re right though. I’m completely embittered about my teams performance over the last few games, but I figure, why not take it out on the planets greatest fairweather fans!
I love you guys!
Life is so good that you can stop and smell the roses and write awesome posts about appearances your players have had on TV and Film…
I’ll add my two cents however on the issue: athletes especially the “attractively challenged” ones shouldn’t be allowed to take real actors’ jobs. Well, I guess if theyre playing themselves it makes sense.
Anywho…you guys are the best. Thanks for letting me get under your skin a little.
Go nuggets.

Actually........

SHE is not a bubba.

“but I figure, why not take it out on the planets greatest fairweather fans!”

Ha, congratulations you’re the one millionth troll to come up with that one. You win a trip to the conference finals (again) to witness another Nugget whooping.

You know it’s kinda funny how the fans of teams that never win whine about “fairweather” or “bandwagon” fans. As if all of the real fans of a team suddenly become “bandwagon” fans when the team wins. I will let you on a little secret…………shhhhh. All winning teams have “fairweather” fans and “bandwagon” fans. It comes with the territory. When you win you GAIN “fairweather” fans, you don’t magically turn all of the real fans into “fairweather” ones. Also, what are the chances than any of the “fairweather” fans are the ones here blogging/commenting on a daily basis?

Of course I don’t expect to find many bandwagon Nuggets fans for the same reasons.

“especially the "attractively challenged" ones shouldn’t be allowed to take real actors’ jobs.”

How nice of you to stand up for all of those poor out of work actors. Especially the ones that can answer the casting call for “7’ tall athletic type……must be able to convincingly play a professional Basketball player”. I am sure the phone is ringing off the hook.

Hurt my feelings?

I don’t care if you like my team or not. Like I said, you are entitled to expressing your opinions and there are plenty of other opposing fans that have come here with interesting thoughts, but when you’re an opposing fan, at least have the common courtesy to post comments in a respectful manner.

All you’ve done is accuse the fans here as “fairweather” with nothing but the intention of being a troll on this fanblog because “you don’t like [our] team.”

Way to represent Nugget fan, you’re the best. Stay classy and thanks for making a jerk out of yourself.

Love Torii Hunter

I was so pissed last year the Angels sputtered in the first round, especially after how in Torii’s press conference he had said he finally “got the monkey off his back” (cuz Minnesota lost to the Angels in 2002) he brought out a stuffed Angels rally monkey out.

Angels front office really needs to step it up on acquiring big name bats to compliment Torii cuz sadly, I don’t think Vlad’s been the same in a long while.

But I love linkin park and LO looked so smooth and cool in the vid, so that was fun for me. It’s really too bad TNT didn’t use a Linkin Park song last year during the playoffs.

Agreed. The cameos and guest appearances are fine, just as long as they don’t disrupt the player’s focus and they’re not caught up with the bright lights of Hollywood. I remember lots of players that play in LA get caught up in the clubs, the movie premieres, the movies, the tv shows … but with Kobe as the captain of the team, I have full confidence he’ll reign in the players that he feels aren’t taking the season seriously.

That’s the one reason why I don’t mind the players guest acting or what not. Kobe’ll keep them in line.

Its actuallyl what I wish you guys could do sometimes, ya know? like get a sense of humor and realize that as long as you guys are saddled with possibly the most selfish, “off-court” issued, arrogant asshole superstar athelete ON THE PLANET, youre gonna get some flak for it. Yes, i hate Kobe Bryant. its my right and im choosing to excercise it! But your right, little below the belt on implication of being around children. It was more about the fact that i think Kobe could quite possibly be the WORST role model for kids…

Wierd how I have yet to call you guys any names and its now , jerk, and douchebag for me! and by “you huys” i mean you the fans, not the players.

You do realize you are going downhill fast, don't you?

If you don’t want to be called a douchebag, don’t act like one. Unless I am mistaken the only thing Kobe has ever done (or has been proven) that would make him a bad role model is to cheat on his wife. I guess that makes just about every athlete in the world a bad role model. Actually if I was married to his wife I would cheat too. She’s a psycho.

So other than Colorado what makes him such a bad role model?

Is it his ridiculous work ethic?
Or his charity work? (that unlike most athletes he doesn’t publicize)

Just curious since you brought it up.

“the-crime-that-must-not-be-talked-about-because-it-was-settled”

I think you meant alleged crime……

To answer the Role Model question: teaching a child that the only person that should matter is themselves, or whining to get what you want is ok or “me first” kinda stuff doesn’t seem like values I’d wanna teach ‘em, ya know? And maybe you guys can’t see it cause it’s your team and he is such a spectacular player, but being a role model goes a lot further than donating to charity, as noble as that is. It’s a question of character. How someone carries him/herself…from the outside looking in (and I realize that may not be fair) he comes across as a selfish, arrogant, guy that was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth….
Just my thoughts. Not meant to hurt anybody’s feelings here…

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 24, 2009 1:09 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

if these are your thoughts then keep them to yourself

i dont see much of a need to come on a laker blog and endlessly bash kobe over things from the past that are no longer relevant to anyone else here as well as antagonize the people here.
how would you like it if we went over to your blog and started bashing Melo over his previous DUI’s and accuse him of being a selfish brat since your holding kobe to such a high standard?

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

by shaqfor3 on Nov 24, 2009 2:17 PM PST up reply actions

I would probably enjoy the banter, I guess

And I guess its not really up to you what I find relevant or not relevant anymore.
Let me help you out a little. watch this:
Carmelo Anthony makes some of the worst off court decisions I have seen. Driving drunk? come on man! Your rich! Call a cab! what worries me more is the deeper implications of a repeat offense. what kind of life guidance do these guys need? whos not teaching them the way to conduct themselves in the “real-world”? you look at someone like Carmelo and where he was brought up and you think, “yeah, giving someone that young who grew up on some pretty rough streets that much money and power, they are going to fuck up. How can we curb this”?
And then Id ask you about examples of being a selfish brat, and then I guess we’d just go from there.
I guess I feel like its a bit sad that those things about Kobe aren’t relevant to you guys anymore. You’ve let him off the hook, but hey, as long as hes winning (what is it, one now without Shaq) championship i guess we can push aside the fact that he ran one of the greatest stars of the game (and your namesake shaqfor3) outta town because his ego was bruised…

Ah, the manifesto of the mis-informed. Why don’t you ask Heat, Magic, or Suns fans who has the bigger ego? Shaq’s ego ran itself out of town. Everyone knows this. (Well, not everyone apparently).

Nice to see you focusing on the basketball issues here though.

"...just about every athlete in the world..."

Really? Just about every athlete in the world cheats on their spouse? Just about every athlete in the world has been in a very well publicized RAPE case that was dropped after an alleged multi-million dollar payoff to the alleged victim?

I’m all for rallying behind your team’s superstar but not if it means unfairly stereotyping everyone else down to their level.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

by Big Mickey D on Nov 24, 2009 1:26 PM PST up reply actions

Um, did I say every athlete in the world was in a well publicized Rape case? And yes I think a large percentage of professional athletes cheat on their wives. For that matter a fairly large percentage of ALL husbands cheat on their wives.

As far as the rape case, why don’t you ask the Duke Lacrosse team about ALLEGED rape cases?

And since we are on the subject……What is worse, paying someone that has accused you of rape? Or taking money from someone who has allegedly raped you?

I’m all for TRASHING your least favorite team’s superstar, but not if it means mis-quoting their teams fans……

Actually we have 15, not 17.

But we appreciate the positive attitude / hope for the future.

Maybe the Nuggets should relocate to a larger city so David Stern can “manufacture” a couple for you too. =)

by pslakerfan on Nov 25, 2009 12:32 PM PST up reply actions

Its a good question

I guess my conspiracy theories and my outrageous claims would beg that question.
The short answer is hope, ya know. I’m not saying that there is a group of guys sitting in a room before the seoson starts maniacally rubbing there hands and scripting out the best scenario. Im not that crazy. My eyebrows raise a little when the laker somehow end up with a pretty ridiculous trade like for Gasol. I have looked at that trade and scratched my head at what the lakers actually gave up for a REALLY Great center. You know more about it than I do of course but at some point one has to Kinda go “huh?”
Please dont misunderstand, I love the NBA, my team and my city. The conspiracy argument and things being “fixed” are more for fun than anythiung else. But I certainly do question referees with all their “make-up” calls and their seemingly personal relationship with the players. good and bad. I kniw its not an exact science and it never will be, but itd be nice if more smaller market teams consistently made the finals.
I know, I know, Orlando, Cleveland (although James is there so), San Antonio etc… but whenever those teams are in it, its not as a big a deal as Boston, La, Chicago,Detroit,….
I mean when players like Dwight Howard are saying things like how amazed he was that they won that series against cleveland because EVERYONE wanted Lebron/Kobe finals, it makes me go hmmmm
And the Doghnahey (sp) situation doesnt help.
Ive been a fan since 85 and the older I get the less magical it has become and more “business like” and thats cause I grew up. BUT we do live in a win now, make it a better package and “sell it for more and do it faster!” society nowadays and sometimes that leads to cutting corners….
im rambling now…
does that kinda answer it?

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 25, 2009 1:03 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that answers it.

I won’t say that the league doesn’t favor superstars because they do. I don’t think they favor teams however. The Lakers don’t get any more calls then the rest of the teams. I am sure Dallas thinks the NBA robbed them of a championship against the Heat. I think we can all agree that the Shaq + DWade story was more interesting than the Dirk story. DWade shot like 5000 free throws in that series. Point is you can always find evidence of a conspiracy, if you are looking for one but pulling one off in nearly impossible especially with today’s media.

I don’t know about the legitimacy of the Kings vs. Lakers series in 2002, but I have seen plenty of playoff games when the Lakers got screwed by the referees. In my opinion it is more about standard deviation than bias. Some games the bad calls are all going to go your way, some games they are going to go the other guys way, and most games they are going to be about evenly split.

I don’t see many Laker haters complaining about the atrocious refereeing in Game 1 of the 2008 finals against Boston. A lot of Laker fans (myself included) felt we got screwed out of our best chance to win that series from the start.

Next thing you will be complaining about is the Lakers “soft” schedule to start the season. I suspect however we won’t get your sympathies at the end of the season when our schedule becomes harder than everyone else. And yes I did see the fanpost about this topic at Denver Stiffs, what a joke.

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

by pslakerfan on Nov 25, 2009 1:49 PM PST up reply actions

Actually

I meant to bring up that Boston-LA series as a kind of “ummmmm” situation I’m talking about. But well defended on all counts.
The schedule thing: come on, really? At the beginning of a season you know what you’re getting as far as playing a bad team and 17-21 games being at home. The end of season you have no idea if those teams who on paper at the beginning of the season are playoff contenders or nor. Injuries, bad chemistry, suspensions could mean those teams at the end of the season aren’t as elite anymore.
I’m saying, make the schudule even throughout the season from the beginning. I’ve looked at it and don’t understand why ANY team would be playing 17-21 games at hone against mostly sub 500 teams from the year before…
It’s nor a conspiracy just really shitty on the schedule makers part.
The fact that you guys have your schedule and the nuggets get 22 back-to-backs and a (we’ve now played 5 of them) a season long 6
game east road trip to start the season seems like there is probably a middle ground we’re missing.

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 25, 2009 2:48 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

i admit our schedule is unusually easy right now
but i attribute it to bad scheduling over a giant conspiracy
at the end of the day though it balances itself out when you take a look at our schedule from january until the end of the regular season
things then get real heavy…at that point it will no longer be considered a joke…

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

by shaqfor3 on Nov 25, 2009 3:08 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

That’s what I’m saying. It’s NOT a conspiracy it’s just poor scheduling and your guys’ Jan-end of season is a testament to that.
I want “balance” to be week in week out…or even monthly you know?

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 25, 2009 3:15 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

its tough to make schedules though cause arenas have different events and etc. but yeah there should be a little more balance…

Mellowing Down?

That wasn’t a dig in Carmelo was it? JK! No man, I was never that crazy to begin with…just a guy that is absolutely aware of how ridiculous I can be with my passion for my Nuggets. I’m willing to be bagged on just as much as I do it to others!
As fans, regardless of who we root for, we are crazy. All of us. Even the ones who claim to be the “bigger person” who have “respect” for other teams and their players. I think it’s wierd when I hear someone say that they are a die hard Nuggets fan and they also LOVE Kobe Bryant…I just don’t get it, ya know?
I think people need to realize caring a whole bunch about a team that they LOVE and yet have no real control over any aspect of how said team performs is in itself kinda crazy. The closest thing I can think of that compares is religion. People vehemtly disagree with other religious views but at the end of the day we’re all just rollin on faith!
Wow. I just got all deep…

Go nuggets!

Been a fan since ‘85 and besides a couple of little runs here and there this is the first time they have been consitently a force to be reckoned with. Just over excited probably.

As far as the flame police, I just meant that once you have an argument here that lasts more than a couple of comments back and forth usually someone here will admonish you for it.

Something like “that’s enough, point made, move on to something else”

Or they will just complain that you have exceeded your maximum comments for the day……(that was sarcasm) Apparently I talk too much around here.

I gotta know though, you seem like a conscientious, self-depricating guy. What do you get out of being annoying just for the sake of being annoying? It’s clearly not a full time gig. Is it really that much fun to go to a blog just to try to step on a few toes?

I dont kmow

It’s probably my way of “getting involved” and “provoking” for the sake of my team. I realize it’s annoying and even as I write it it’s pretty obnoxious but sometimes fans have a duty to get into a little verbal sparring with other fans. Even if it means arguing things that are just a matter of opinion…
I like the fact that I’m a bit irrational towards certain teams and players that just kinda bug me for whatever the reason- like Tom Brady. What’s to hate about him? But, man I hate that dude.
Also the Nuggs site gets a little Vanilla.

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 25, 2009 6:04 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

The only problem with verbal sparring is that 95% of it has been done before

I honestly don’t mind the sentiment behind most of the trash talk that goes on. It’s just so bloody boring and re-hashed that I get pissed off having to slog through it all.
