The biggest surprise about that "What's wrong with the Celtics?"

is that the fans blame KG’s age and Rajon Rondo. I haven’t watch any Celtic games but that is kind of surprising. Next they play i’m going defenitely watch to see if what they say about KG is true which is that he looks horrible on both ends of the floor.

I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on Nov 21, 2009 10:23 AM PST reply actions

I watched the game last night...

…and KG definitely did not look anything like an impact player. He doesn’t attack on offense and on defense he’s “meh”.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

It's really no surprise Pippen chose Jordan

I mean, if you played next to MJ, would you really choose anyone else?

Still, not giving Kobe the proper props is kinda lame. No one is going to think Pippen is disloyal if he compliments Kobe a bit here. Yes, they are different players, but chalking up to the “energy drinks” as the main difference between them is kinda well … WTF?

And the whole 50 points not headline worthy is obviously not correct either. IF LBJ scores 50, headlines. If Brandon Jennings scores 50, headlines. If Kobe scores 50, headlines. Kobe scoring 40 pts 4 games out of 11 made headlines … so the whole “wow factor” Jordan had during his time when the media wasn’t as advanced is a lame determination of why Jordan is better.

Anyways, I understand why he would choose Jordan, but he’s making Kobe sound like Jerry Stackhouse or something. There’s no denial over Jordan’s greatness or the fact that they played in different “eras” (please it was only about 10 years apart okay?) and that the media hype over the players were obviously approached differently. But there’s no denial that they will probably be the two best shooting guards we’ve seen in a long time.

how come

we havent signed allen iverson yet? we could get AI for cheap and he could backup kobe. i know its prob not the right thing to do but i think it would help us out alot and should at least be considered

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YES!

srsly?

I respect AI for what he did in 2001 and all, but I don’t think the Lakers have the money to spend on him NOR do they need a potential team cancer risk with AI.

I mean, we’re talking about practice!! PRACTICE!!!

i wouldnt take chances on him

cause he wants to be a scorer not a second fiddle
hes too selfish to make sacrifices for the good of the teams hes been on
like go to the bench and etc.
and this would cause severe problems for us
ex: denver, detroit, memphis…
outside of denver hes left those other 2 teams in ruin….

still been a first round exit team if AI remained there

Iverson is the penultimate anti-triangle player

He dominates the ball, looks for his own shot, and doesn’t give it up unless it’s in the flow of his own game. All of those aspects are completely opposite of what we need for a player in the triangle. His laissez-faire defense doesn’t help either, especially at this stage of his career when his speed is waning.

and Lebron’s headband gets taken off for a few possessions…wow…I sure do understand why he wears that thing ALL the time haha. He looks a lot better with it on. Dude should shave his head.

looks like you were wrong sayin that Denver shoulda been tired today. They blew out Chicago 112-93

by desecrator09 on Nov 21, 2009 8:38 PM PST reply actions

Sure was.

They turned it up in the 2nd half. That’s when I figured they would lose steam. they turned a 3 pt. deficit into 19 pt blowout.

by wondahbap on Nov 22, 2009 6:11 AM PST up reply actions

Wow

Everyone is skeptical of Scott’s firing, and they beat Atlanta, largely owing to Peja’s resurrection and Thornton actually getting minutes. Goes to show you that’s there’s actually a decent amount of depth, but the system Scott was employing was hurting the team.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Nov 21, 2009 9:12 PM PST reply actions

hard to argue with that firing right now

Is Chris Paul’s future up in the air? New Orleans has looked like a legit team without him and he wasn’t too fond of the Scott firing I don’t think.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

by Justin N. on Nov 21, 2009 10:25 PM PST up reply actions

Absolutely not

It’s not his fault that his teammates are bricking the open shots he gives them every game. The notion that NO is going to trade the best point guard in the league (who currently has an out-of-this-world 33.77 PER, 70.6 TS%, 59.4 FG%) because their system now involves more than one play (the pick-and-roll) is patently ridiculous. It’s pretty clear at this point that under Scott 1) the young players were either not being played (Collison, Thornton) or were being misused (Wright) 2) the other veterans were suffering in a system that reduced them to spectators and killed all offensive flow (pretty much everyone, but especially Peja and West).

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

by Ben R on Nov 21, 2009 10:56 PM PST up reply actions

And on Paul's feelings on the Scott firing

Have you seen him cheering his team on at games? There’s a long way to go before his contract expires. He’s far too much of a winner to not recognize that the current system is far superior to the old one and he will benefit in it.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

you're entirely right..

..it’s way premature to speculate about that sort of thing. Think I could get a job at ESPN?

It's really all about Peja.

When he plays well, so does the team. But NOH’s recent success bears discussion. As good as CP3 is, how much of the Hornets lack of success is also due to an utterly boring and predictable pick and roll offense? It basically only keeps 2 people involved. What will it look like when Paul returns?

Also, I don’t think NOH’s recent play has any affect on it. Negative or positive, but I’ve been thinking that sooner or later, Paul will leave NOH sometime. I just don’t think they’ll field the team he should have around him. They are too cost conscious, or do not have the finances to spend freely.

Look at the Cavs. They are spending huge amounts to put players around LBJ. Whether they are the right players is another story, but they are because LBJ is worth that much to the franchise. The Hornets had 07/08. It was a special year, but will these fans be consistent? I’m not so sure. New Orleans spent $68 million in salaries. They got back $9+ mill thanks to player’s salary escrow and Luxury tax returns. Meaning they spent around $59 million. This is a team looking to save when they have one of the BEST player’s in the World. Have you seen what Cleveland spent in payroll? Eventually, Paul will get tired of watching other stars spend for teams while the Hornets penny pinch. He’ll get out. everyone talks about Wade and LBJ. I think it’s Paul who will play with another superstar. His position makes it that much easier.

by wondahbap on Nov 22, 2009 6:24 AM PST up reply actions

On 2nd thought

CP and LBJ could never play together because that’s all they do. They might set the record for running the pick and roll every single play. At least Paul uses different spots on the floor. LeBron? Left arc of the 3 pt. line. Every time.

by wondahbap on Nov 22, 2009 6:34 AM PST up reply actions

good point

i would imagine a good big man would fit him better

when does his contract expire/allow him to opt out anyway?

by Nostance on Nov 22, 2009 1:48 PM PST up reply actions

Ben R, +1

That is why I say NO to Byron replacing Phil.

I like watching the Lakers beautiful offense. I would die of boredom watching Byron squash youth and run that tired pick and roll every frigging play.

I had this in yesterday’s Credits, but I’ll link it here. A New York Times article on the Pick and Roll.
