Gasol May Be Out 6 Weeks?

Star-divide

"Obviously the injury definitely is not going away, so it's kind of telling you the level of gravity," Gasol said. "We didn't anticipate it was going to be that way, but that's how it's turned out. It was hard for a few days, but I've accepted it and now I'm doing what it takes to get back."

Although Jackson continues to insist he's not worried about Gasol's injury, for the first time he spoke with some urgency in his voice. Jackson said the initial diagnosis suggested that it would take six weeks for Gasol's hamstring to fully heal, but the Lakers cannot afford to wait another three weeks to get their big man back.

This is is probably what everyone feared and in my opinion the worst case scenario.  Considering that the regular season is approximately about 22-23 weeks that means that Gasol would be missing close to 30% of the season that might or might not be a bad thing.  Mainly because that would test the Lakers resiliency because if I remember correctly Gasol has looked like he can step right in and play since his first day as a Laker.  Second, and more importantly, Bynum needs that chance to develope his game as the focal part of the Lakers post game.  That can only help to improve his game.  He needs to earn that big contract and he has been away from the game long enough.  Besides, I feel that the Lakers are talented enough to get through the time being.  The biggest effect that this will have in my opinion is that the Bench Mob will continue to struggle as long as LO remains a starter in Pau's place.  These are just my opinions but I'm curious what the rest of you think.

very lame if we have to wait 6 weeks to get pau back, but thankfully we resigned LO back so it wont hurt as much. Pau is a huge part of our team, but i’d rather have him healthy come playoff time, than finish wiht 60+ wins

In Kobe we trust!

well, if that's the ONLY "serious" injury we face this year

i’d be more than happy :)

i just hope pau keeps in shape for the 6 weeks

same here

i would like the team to tough it out without gasol to avoid complacency.. one thing i noticed the more the team is winning.. the sooner it losses its focus… and gasol needs some rest as well.. blessing in disguise injury.. hehehe..

As mentioned above

I really do think that this will help Bynum become the great offensive threat that he has meant to be. The Lakers are good enough to maintain their top spot until he gets back.

When I read that quote

I got the impression that Phil said hamstring injuries take up to 6 weeks to fully heal, but the lakers didnt have that kind of time, implying that he would be back sooner…

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

I got the same impression

The post takes the quote out of context. Directly afterwards, Phil implies that Gasol is going to come back sooner.

I just updated it..

hopefully that is a bit more clear. Thank you for pointing that out.

Gasol May have tear; results will be known today
Lakers forward Pau Gasol underwent a sonogram that showed a possible tear in his right hamstring

Gasol also had a more complex MRI exam today on his hamstring, and those results will be known by Tuesday.

Holy crap

That’s a really scary picture of Pau

I wish Pau’s injury wasn’t so serious, but what the hey, if it means more rest for the big fella, then so be it. All that really matters is that when he gets back, the rest of the team gels and we have a super duper strong playoff run.
