Ariza Loses Footwear, Wins Game

Things aren't going that well right now.

The pregame ring ceremony for Trevor Ariza was nice. Classy. The 16-2 run to open tonight's game against the Houston Rockets was even nicer. From there the Rockets outscored the Lakers by 24 points, which I don't recall seeing in the script.

L.A. got shredded by David Andersen (wait, who) and Aaron Brooks. I'm sure those two are nice guys, but when they're lighting your D up for Stockton-Malone numbers, something isn't right. Not helping the situayshe was the Lakers' second straight ghastly shooting performance. Laker guards not named Shannon Brown shot 10 for 42. Here's the box score if you don't believe me.

The best part? Kobe Bryant limped off the floor late in the game. According to beat reporter Mike Trudell, he was playing with a hurt groin that was injured last Sunday against New Orleans. We're just finding out about this now?

After the jump, see Ron Artest toss Ariza's shoe into the courtside seats. The Lakers are 7-3. Hmph.

So much for believing the Lakers could go 80-2, I guess I’ll have to settle for 79-3.

were you on the crack pipe..

when you thought that? And you still must be high if you or anyone else though that we coulda broke that 70 game mark. Most rediculous bullshit i heard in a while

I got no problem with them playing terribly early in the season, as long as they get their acts together when it counts

Losses don't matter

As long as Gasol is 100% healthy for the playoffs, Lakers are fine.

Poster for next year? I'm thinking My Little Pony.

by Zaig on Nov 16, 2009 2:25 AM PST up reply actions

I was one who said the Lakers could make a run at 70 wins

but it was always under the caveat that almost perfect health was needed for it to even be considered possible.

Only 10 games into the season, it seems clear that neither a season of good health nor a season with 70 wins will be happening, so the Lakers just need to focus on getting right be year’s end and peaking at the right time.

agree all the way without the curse words

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

To quote Lamar Odom:

I think there’s a shot. It would be cool too. If we can get the Bulls’ record and win a championship, I’d take that. But if we won only 58 and won a championship, I’d take that. At the end of the day, you want to be the best team standing in June.

Thats a good quote from LO

and I hope all Lakers think this way, winning a Ring is more important then a record.

Pau is a good guy, and an amazing basketball player.

You guys will probably be back to steam-roll with him.

Just my opinion.

You add the skills big man into the triangle, plus his rebounding with Bynum, and you’ve got it back.

Not that you are doing bad right now…

Your a classy guy and thats good to see. However, I dont really think we’re played well at all this whole season yet. We’ve eeked some wins out but we were very sloppy in all of them.

by shaqfor3 on Nov 15, 2009 9:59 PM PST up reply actions

Sure, you've looked unsure and sloppy,

But you still have a good record. That is exactly what is impressive.

If this is what you do when you play like crap, then as long as you put it together sometime, you are still the dominant team in the league.

I wouldn’t call me classy too quick though. I’ll be chanting “Beat LA” with all of us barbarians from the north when your Lakers come to town.

The Staples crowd

The Staples crowd (at least for Laker games) is probably the worst in the NBA because so many people go to be seen. They don’t go because they’re passionate about the game or the team, and some probably don’t even know much about the game, as evidenced by the booing when the team was only down 10. If they were being blown out, that’s different, but 10 points really isn’t anything at all. I’m not a Laker fan but even my friends who are know that the Staples crowd sucks. Sure, they sell out most games, but they don’t even seem to pay any attention. It’s a shame that there are so many rich people who want to be seen in LA, because it jacks up the ticket prices and keeps true fans from being about to attend games.

by Roxanna on Nov 16, 2009 9:24 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah...

10 points. Pfft. A lot of good teams will be down 10+ points and win over 10 times in a season. I don’t know how much the crowd affects these comebacks, but it sure can’t help having your crowd boo you when you get down a paltry 10.

Poster for next year? I'm thinking My Little Pony.

by Zaig on Nov 16, 2009 12:08 PM PST up reply actions

yeah thats what i was thinking

but i thought he was a lake fan so it got me confused

by desecrator09 on Nov 15, 2009 9:54 PM PST up reply actions

Correct.

Every time I question the Blazer’s front office I get jumped by people saying “you don’t know if he’s got something really awesome he is putting together that we can’t see.”

But enough about the Blazers, this is a Laker site.

Sasha isn't being traded anytime

Until next summer. No self-respecting GM is going to take on the salary of a supposed shooter who can’t shoot well and send a decent talent back in return.

Well

The Rockets are a lot better than 99% of people said they would be. Mainly because people are dumb enough to believe that losing Yao would cost them 20+ games.

They aren’t a great team by any means this year, and might not even be a playoff team, but they are definitely capable of pulling our a 40 win season. This might make people realize that.

Kobe banged up would explain it

I’ll take another championship with 69 wins.

by Cool Dudes on Nov 15, 2009 10:51 PM PST reply actions

Meh

Moment Pau comes back, Kobe should sit and rest the groin. That way the offense focuses on Gasol and Bynum working off each other in the post, which can only benefit us in the long-run, similar to how no Gasol allows 1) Kobe to test his new post-up game with greater freedom 2) Bynum to get a lot more touches.

I can't stress enough how much I HATE Aaron Brooks

Anyway my vodka is done and i’m outta cranberry juice too so i’m up having ir-rational thoughts and here’s my 2 cents. We trade Machine and 2 others to get CP3.

I hate the way we’re playing and it hurts to my core because a number of my co-workers are Celtic and Phoenix jock riders who I will have to deal with during the rest of the day.

Kobe looks so grounded! I was saying this for the last week and it had me worried because I was wondering if he was really in decline mode. But now we’re finding out he has a groin problem. Why the hush this isn’t the CIA so I can’t see the need for secrecy and Kobe shoulda just taken those games off if he was injured.

I know he’s trying to be a leader but sometime being a leader means you step aside and let the team grow up (or grow down?) in your absence.

I can’t wait to get Pau back, because it means Kobe can get some rest and we can run the offense through him.

by wayde_316 on Nov 16, 2009 5:31 AM PST reply actions

Must be the vodka talking

You can’t seriously think that trading freaking Vujacic and two other bench players would get CP3. I mean… really?? You’d have to give up someone GOOD in order to get arguably the best point guard in the league… just because Memphis gift-wrapped Gasol doesn’t mean other teams are that stupid (of course, they probably don’t hate Laker legends working in their front office to pull strings….).

by Roxanna on Nov 16, 2009 9:27 AM PST up reply actions

...

Unless those 2 others are Gasol and Bynum, NO is going to be mocking this trade idea for the rest of their lives.
