Lakers-Rockets Open Thread

Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers, Nov 15, 2009 6:30 PM PST

Welcome to Ariza Bowl II.

Let's all raise a glass tonight for our old friend Trevor, who'll get his championship ring before the game. He was a distinguished soldier for us last year and will always have a place in Laker history. Aw, man... I told myself I wouldn't cry! Give me a moment here.

No such goodwill extends to the hated Luis Scola. That guy's a tool.

Open thread, ENGAGE.

I turned the game on and saw a red shoe on the floor of Ariza’s, did a fan take his shoe and then threw it on the floor(LOL) and whats with the Lakers starting hot then going cold, Kobe having trouble with Ariza, I can’t believe it and Kobe should drive the ball on Ariza’s skinny behind..

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Kobe and CP3 yes

Because CP3 has a really diversified game (three-point range, awesome midrange game, superb teardrop, can finish, and pass) and can work without the ball in his hands all the time. LeBron can’t operate too long without the ball more or less for extended periods.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

Weak defense, horrible jump shots

You know that one commercial that ends with Kobe working out … his black T-shirt has “ANTICIPATION” on the front and it goes “Where ANTICIPATION happens”.

Well replace anticipation with frustration.

I’m sorry, just gonna say it: “Houston sucks ass”. We should be destroying them. No Yao, no T-mac, no size… How many points are we going to give to that 29 year old rookie, White-Chocolate Thunder aka Budinger? How many times we going to sit back on defense and watch them get easy points?

Oh well.

I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

agree, it will feel alot better, thats why they have to win, no matter what

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

The Lakers are lucky to have a soft schedule up front. If the Pau injury happened in late Dec., they'd lose about 8/10.

It's not Gasol...

It’s the whole team. No drives, no intensity, no interior defense. The loss of Gasol is just intensifying how poorly the Lakers are right now.

How did they win a championship last year? If losing by 26 to Denver isn’t enough to get a team fired up for their next home game, I don’t know what is…

Our unwillingness to give it to Bynum

Is just amazing. It’s like how we played keepaway from Gasol the entire playoffs last year, and he only compensated with all the offensive rebounds he got. With the exception of Chuck Hayes, Bynum has two inferior post defenders on him — the super-soft Andersen and the undersized Scola. Why on earth does Fisher have the same amount of shot attempts as Bynum?

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

Because in the previous games Kobe has been money with the fadeaway while posting up? Is this the first game you’ve watched of the season. Are you kidding me right now?

Kobe has been making that fadeaway like players make layups. Just because it it wasn’t falling tonight you want the Lakers to change up their whole offensive plan?

by intuitive on Nov 15, 2009 9:09 PM PST up reply actions

If Kobe knows that his game isn't his usual game or that his shot isn't

falling why not step aside and let Bynum get most of the touches?

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on Nov 15, 2009 9:11 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously? You have to ask? Because Kobe is Kobe. If his first shot doesn’t go in then he’s sure the 2nd on will, and if the 2nd shot doesn’t go in, then he’s sure the 3rd one will and so on.

And I told you you shouldn’t worry about Kobe. You should be questioning why Fisher is taking 13 shots. He is the primary guy that should be giving Drew the ball and feeding the post, instead he’s taking bad shot after bad shot.

With Kobe at least you know he has a shot at making them and getting hot, but Fisher? There’s no excuse as to why he’s taking bad shots off the dribble.

But. I’m a Lakers fan first and Kobe is not always the best option. It all depends on mismatches.

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on Nov 15, 2009 9:20 PM PST up reply actions

Uh huh, regardless of mismatches I would think you’d understand Kobe is the first offensive option and that’s that. When Kobe’s being double teamed he’s shown he will pass out of it.

Someone needs to drive or hit the open shot when he gets double teamed

by PURPLE AND GOLD FOR LIFE on Nov 15, 2009 9:23 PM PST up reply actions

And I’ve maintained that Kobe will be the Lakers first option. ALWAYS. You’d think if you’ve been watching Kobe’s game develop since 1996 you’d understand that. It obviously is a team game but you should understand that by now Kobe will get his shots.

Bynum missed his first game with a strained right elbow and Gasol missed his sixth because of a strained right hamstring.
"You kidding?" Bryant said when asked whether Bynum and Gasol would kick him out of the post when they return. "They know I eat first and they get the seconds."

And no. Bynum shouldn’t be the 1st option, Kobe should be. Bynum should be the 2nd option on a team with no Gasol. If your gripe was that Drew should be the 2nd option I would agree with you, but no Drew should NOT be the 1st option

by intuitive on Nov 15, 2009 9:26 PM PST up reply actions

I think this is just based on matchups

In this game Bynum had a HUGE advantage and he shoulda gotten the ball more because Kobe did not have as big an advantage on his man this game. IN most games you wont have this but this game it was true. Just my opinion on this though :)

Although we had a lot to be mad about today

Everyone that thinks that we suddenly aren’t going to win the West are completely out of their mind. We’re missing our second-best player, who makes our offense way better on so many levels, and the panic button is already being hit. Good heavens.

To whoever wants Bynum to be the focal point of the offense, his passing out of the post is horribly mediocre, he can’t facilitate the offense from the post or the top of the key (like Gasol can), and he’s not replacing Kobe any time soon. Now, should we be giving the ball to Bynum more for touches in the post against inferior players? Yes, but that doesn’t make him the focal point of our option. He shouldn’t be facilitating others as a primary focus of our offense.

is that true? just a random question. if it’s not, don’t judge me, I’m not an idiot.

I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

Lakers booed at home in 101-91 loss to Rockets

Are u kidding me?
they won the title right?

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

Um, if half the commenters on here were at the game they’d probably have done the same. All they’ve done is whine about the Lakers anyway.

by intuitive on Nov 15, 2009 9:35 PM PST up reply actions

not me

to be honest
i went to games in 04-05
when kobe was 4-16 and they lost to the grizzlies
and i never booed

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

by shaqfor3 on Nov 15, 2009 9:36 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah. I’m not big on the booing. Didn’t like it when Dodgers Stadium booed Chad either, such a shame how a fan base can turn on specific people once things start going awry. Funny thing is Wolf and Kershaw could be prone to those bad nights as well, and they’d leave the mound with a standing ovation. Double standards…

yes

sometimes they can be like split personalities
i went this year to a game he pitched
and he got the hook in the 2nd yet he was cheered….
