Lakers-Nuggets Game Thread

Los Angeles Lakers at Denver Nuggets, Nov 13, 2009 7:30 PM PST

The following ingredients are included in Chicken McNuggets: autolyzed yeast extract, sodium phosphates, sodium acid pyrophosphate, dimethylpolysiloxane, self-loathing.

The following ingredients are included in the Denver Nuggets: Anthony Carter, many irritating power forwards.

Here's your open thread, kiddies. I hope you brought plenty of dipping sauce.

You've got time to run to McD's!

Depending on where you live, I guess.

I live about a mile away from the next McDonalds so no traveling for me tonight but maybe tomorrow

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

What about Chauncey?

he’s one of my favorite players in the league, and the only guy on the nuggets with any blank skin left. plus i went to the same college as him.

anyways. this is going to be a big test for Artest – I want to see him be tough without being an idiot. we’ll see what happens.

Here's a question I've been wondering:

If Gasol wins>= 3 championships could he be considered a top 50 (or better) player all time

Probably not

He may very well be the most talented center in the league, but unfortunately he lives under Kobe’s shadow and is not a statistical monster. Without another championship or three (I hate the use of championships as a caliber of a players greatness), writers etc. probably will not give him enough credit. They may not even let him in the Hall of Fame.

Nuggets can have this game, Phil needs to rest the starters and let the bench play the rest of this

game

Is it just me or we getting our ass kicked big time

Kobe needs to stop playing like a freaking jump shooter and get to the rim and throw it down. I’m tired of all these defenders feeling good about themselves

When the Lakers score 8 points in the 3rd quarter I’d be inclined to agree with you that they are “getting their ass kicked big time”

Didn’t the Lakers last year, in one of their away games against Denver get blown out too? That game was also on hte 2nd night of a back to back. If this season mirrors last season I think I’d be quite satisfied with the outcome. :)

by intuitive on Nov 13, 2009 9:36 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Wow...

I’m not going to take anything away from how had Denver is playing. I just think there were some bad no-calls… like when Martin went over Lamar’s back, some of the push calls, and oh yeah when Melo popped Luke’s finger out…

Hopefully the Lakers start hating the Nugs as hard as they hate us. Hate is a powerful emotion!

I agree with you totally hate is a powerful emotion

it’s like we don’t even care about the Nuggets or overlook them.

But I for one HATE them and want us to squash them anytime we play

The refs will now start giving calls to the Lakers during garbage time, in order to make it seem as if there wasn’t such a huge discrepancy in free throws when the game actually mattered.

Denver kept on attacking while Lakers went back to jumpers when time got tough, plus turnovers and definitely no calls from the refs…

The difference was intensity and desire.

The Lakers should be embarrassed, and as fans we should get more than what we saw tonight. I mean, they gave up at the end of the 3rd quarter.

And 8 to 29? No team has been that outplayed this year.

Horrible.

Is the new talk going to be about the defense Afflalo played?

Yeah, because he’s played such good defense on Kobe in the past. That’s sarcasm, in case you didn’t catch it the first time.

The Lakers got their butts kicked but good. On the road, missing Pau, against last year’s opponent in a hard fought conference Finals. Brush it off.

bad game for us as it was

somehow, it doesn’t seem as if we’re too worried (sure, denver would boast it’s head off, but who cares about them)

which makes you wonder, if the fan’s arn’t too worried, did the team even feel a sense of urgency?

don’t get me wrong. i think it’s still too early in the season to get emotional. Plus, it’s not like we’re been doing poorly or anything.

by Nostance on Nov 13, 2009 10:17 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, I'd be more worried if the Lakers lost at home

Like Boston did to Atlanta.

Denver is a team to be reckoned with.

I think they played like it was a WCF rematch

and we just sort of shrugged it off. Not that we felt entittled to a win or anything, but it didn’t seem like they felt the NEED to beat Denver, while Denver probably had this date circled 15 times.

by Nostance on Nov 13, 2009 10:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

What I saw a lot in the second half is Denver getting agressive on double teaming Kobe

So he would move the ball once doubled and the rest of the team could not hit an outside shot

So Kudos to Denver on executing their defensive strategy

Heres a new mix I made.

Kobe hasnt always been known as a clutch player. In game 5 of the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals, he missed a shot to win the game in the 4th quarter and 2 three-pointers to tie the game in the last minute of overtime, all of the shots being airballs. With that the Utah Jazz ended the playoffs for the Lakers in the 2nd round. Shaquille O'Neal commented years later that "Kobe was the only guy who had the guts at the time to take shots like that."

Ever since that horrible experience in his rookie year, Kobe has worked harder and has learned how to make those shots with the game on the line. This vid features some lines from Carmelo Anthony's Become Legendary commercial as well as some of Kobe's recent gamewinners.

Enjoy!
Kobe Game Winner vs Raptors - Whoa, I watched this and then I read the comments on Youtube claiming Kobe travelled, which I had not heard of. Then, after watching a few times, I have to say, I agree, Kobe changes his pivot foot before putting the ball down on the floor. I also think there's no way a ref catches that in real time, and even if they do, they can't be sure enough to call it then, either.
