Should Jordan Replace West On the NBA Logo?

 Image

Star-divide

This is a question that was posted on the main NBA page on ESPN.com.  This is without a doubt as a result of The King's comments and his decision to not ever wear the Number 23 again.  If you ask me, if it is considered disrespectful to MJ for an NBA player to consider himself even in the same leage as MJ than Lebron is the most disrespectful player ever.  But, that is for another topic.

As a Lakers fan I am opposed to this idea of course.  Mainly because that is my trump card when having a trash talking session with any Laker haters.  I point to the fact that no matter what team anyone loves when they buy an NBA product they are marketing one of the best players that ever played the game who just happened to be a Laker.  But, taking emotion away, I'm not sure if I would be that opposed by it.  I just like to have those braggin rights.  I'm glad that most ESPN fans have voted a resounding NO! to the poll.   What do the rest of you think?

i say dont change it

as much as i do think jordan is the best that has ever played the game, i just dont think they should change the logo.
i feel keeping the same logo is a good thing, it keeps things retro. gives the nba an old school feel that i like. i mean when i think best ever jordan comes to mind, but when i think nba in general the logo comes to mind.

LOL

took me a minute to get that.

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

agree 100%

I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Jordan doesn’t need anything else to stroke his ego.

No.

Lakers 2009 Road to Redemption: TREVOR, DEREK, LAMAR, PAU & KOBE.
Play the game of which Lakers reminds you of: TA - TI, Shannon Brown - Chris Brown, Pau Gasol - Jesus, Machine - Luis Scola/Russell Brand, PJ with mustache and beard - Colonel Sanders.

No period indeed.

IF the nba would ever do this, basketball should just change its name to the “Nike Basketball Association”

Jordan already has all the acclaim he deserves, anything more would just be overkill. Not only that, but Jordan has already proved himself on several occasion to be a grade A a$$. I’m sure there are some dark skeletons in his closet too.

West has been the perfect ambassador of the game, and we shouldnt strip him of that right. He is a reminder of how you can be a world class competitor on AND OFF the court.

In Kobe we trust!

by robi s on Nov 13, 2009 12:32 PM PST up reply actions

Nope.

hes always been the logo
why mess with it?
and yes Jordan has already received heavy recognition from the nba and its fans…it would not be necessary to go an extra yard…
West was one of the first great players in this league who wasnt as fortunate as others in the ring category but still he deserves to be recognized for that since most fans out there do not know much about old school NBA and how much he contributed to the game…and dont forget he was the ultimate precursor to Jordan, Kobe, and Wade…

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

The only way they should change the logo is if the include someone like Barkley kneeing Jordan in the groin. (OK, I’m not a Jordan lover.)

And yes I am a 2009 World Champion Fan.

Nah Jordans the best but keep the Logo the same, I know its from or for Jerry West but

I don’t associate the logo with him anyway and I think of the logo as Jordans anyway, especially when you think of the Jordan shoe brand

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be commited against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the LimeLight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

yep

i wouldn’t have known if no one told me.

if they do change it, it should be changed to “generic” instead of having it associate with one person. much less controversy that way.

I could care less about all the basketball related reasons

How about no because that’s one ugly ass logo?

Seriously, just from an aesthetic standpoint, it’s a no brainer.

I rest my case

no one really cares if they don’t know who’s on the logo though I can assure you boston dorks would ask for the change. Check that, beg for it.

by southman on Nov 15, 2009 11:23 AM PST up reply actions

No.

At the risk of sounding like a “hater”, I never liked MJ. Was he a great player? Yes. Was he a game changer. Absolutely. Was he shoved down our throats from about ’86 until his FINAL retirement? Oh god yes. Whenever I get sick and tired of hearing how great the Pats, Celtics, Cowboys,Yankees, Red Sox, Brett Favre or Lebron is, I remind myself, how terrible it was dealing with perfection re-incarnate, otherwise known as Air Jordan.

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....

LBJ=King?

Kings win rings.

Jason

by Stalker on Nov 16, 2009 9:03 AM PST reply actions

NO!!

the last thing we need is LeBron being clamed the king or the chosen one, those and the Akron Hammer when Sports Nation even mentions that, they hit that hammer on the wall, it’s really annoying. To me the real king of BB is one of the 3 best players in NBA history. You know like, “Magic” Johnson or Micheal Jordan

by southman on Nov 19, 2009 3:40 PM PST up reply actions

No

once we allow this then they will change it like the names of the sports arenas

by #1 Laker Fan on Nov 22, 2009 4:43 AM PST reply actions

No

This biggest problem I see is that Jordan is already on a brand—Jordan. There are too many copyright and patent issues to contend with.

The logo suddenly becomes an extra marketing tool for the Jordan brand where every player within the NBA is marketing for Jordan. Very bad idea.

Of course if the Jerry West Hyper Dunks ever come out this argument would apply too :D

by J Hawk on Nov 22, 2009 1:17 PM PST reply actions

exactly

his logo is already being heavily marketed as it is…

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

by shaqfor3 on Nov 22, 2009 8:59 PM PST up reply actions

Never

Yeah Jordan is the annonited one but I still see him in Basketball comercials. When did he retire. The last thing we need is something to boost Jordan’s already huge ego. Jerry West had class something Jordan wouldn’t know about. West also holds the record for PPG in the playoffs. Leave it alone!
