* Afterward, during a post-game interview, Kobe comes up with the best line of the night. When asked if there was enough ball to go around with Bynum back in the lineup he said: "It’s not an issue. I eat first, everybody knows that.’’

I like Kobe and wish only the best for him & the Lakers but it will be interesting to watch what happens once he is not the top dog on the team anymore – hopefully after five more rings though.

And yes I am a 2009 World Champion Fan.

Read the rest of this Chris Ballard Excerpt at Deadspin
Consider the following hypothetical situation. Let’s say you are playing for your high school basketball team and have persuaded one of the team’s benchwarmers to stay afterward to play one-on-one. Let’s also stipulate that you are much, much better than this benchwarmer, who, for our purposes, we shall call Rob.

Now let’s say the two of you are playing a game to 100 points, with each basket worth one point, winner’s outs after a made shot, and you are having your way with poor Rob, backing him down and driving by him and pulling up for jumpers. Pretty soon you’ve built an almost embarrassing lead — say, 40 baskets to none. Now, in this situation, do you:

a) begin to feel bad for Rob, who is, after all, doing you a favor by staying late, and perhaps ease up a bit so he can at least score a few baskets?

b) continue playing hard but maybe start taking only outside jumpers, so that Rob might have a fighting chance, thus making it more competitive?

c) never let up for a second, hounding Rob on defense and punishing him on offense, because the only way to win is to do so absolutely and completely, and only the weak relent, even for a moment?

If you answered “c,” congratulations. You share a mind-set with Kobe Bryant, the most competitive life-form on the planet.

On a related note, a few pigs just flew past my window.

“3. Kobe Bryant won a title his way — by establishing a Kobe and the Kobettes dynamic that actually worked — becoming one of the ten best NBA players ever and proving he could prevail without Shaq. If that wasn’t jarring enough, Shaq’s exit from Phoenix marked the fourth time he left a team on bad terms, making everyone re-evaluate the whole “Was Kobe really the bad guy in the Shaqobe Divorce?” saga that had been buried years ago. Maybe Kobe wasn’t as much to blame as we thought. Maybe Shaq was the problem. Maybe the hotel clerk lied about him. Maybe he took a ton of flak for no reason. Maybe he’s … (gulp) … a good guy and a family man who works his butt off and never seems satisfied and kills himself to get better every summer and maybe … (gulp) … was greater than we thought. Damn it all."

From Bill Simmons (yeah that Bill Simmons)

Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."

Don't Worry

He’s still an idiot.

His readership is just probably way down and desperation is setting in.

by Cool Dudes on Nov 13, 2009 2:53 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I doubt his readership is down.

He has a book to sell. There is no point in alienating the millions of Lakers, and possibly preventing them from getting his ass paid even more.

Once his book sales slow down to the point where bashing any player or team won’t be affected, then he’ll be right back at it.

John Hollinger is saying, "I told you so."

Lakers fans are thinking, “Maybe this Hollinger knows something.”

Well NBA.com efficiency is not as "advanced" as PER.

However being on top is still being on top.

And Chris Kaman is 2nd

he is not efficient in my book

I think smashing the Suns made me realize how far Kobe and the Lakers have come from five years ago, when the Suns had the world at their feet.

This is from "chibi" over at Forum Blue and Gold, regarding LeBron and changing his number.......

’I have no problem with Lebron’s reverence for MJ, even if it has taken on religious dimensions in a silly, self-important way. Wish he’d pushed the envelope a bit more, and petitioned the league to hold some kind of pre-game ritual where players have to genuflect in unison before a giant glossy photograph of MJ’s butthole."

I think that is the first time in a long time that I have acually LOL’d.

In light of the team's final trip up north for the season. I thought we go down memory lane to look back at a classic game against the Warriors in Oakland. The day was April 20, 1999, yes the day of Columbine Massacre. Also, has anyone noticed that we have had a lot of classic games against the Warriors even though we have always assembled better teams than they did.?

Heres a new mix I made.

Kobe hasnt always been known as a clutch player. In game 5 of the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals, he missed a shot to win the game in the 4th quarter and 2 three-pointers to tie the game in the last minute of overtime, all of the shots being airballs. With that the Utah Jazz ended the playoffs for the Lakers in the 2nd round. Shaquille O'Neal commented years later that "Kobe was the only guy who had the guts at the time to take shots like that."

Ever since that horrible experience in his rookie year, Kobe has worked harder and has learned how to make those shots with the game on the line. This vid features some lines from Carmelo Anthony's Become Legendary commercial as well as some of Kobe's recent gamewinners.

Enjoy!
Kobe Game Winner vs Raptors - Whoa, I watched this and then I read the comments on Youtube claiming Kobe travelled, which I had not heard of. Then, after watching a few times, I have to say, I agree, Kobe changes his pivot foot before putting the ball down on the floor. I also think there's no way a ref catches that in real time, and even if they do, they can't be sure enough to call it then, either.
