Mark Cuban Thinks the Lakers are Stupid
Okay, well, so Mark Cuban didn't really say that. I made that part up.
But what he did say to a ESPN Dallas radio station was, and I quote, "I tell you what, now that they've got Ron Artest, I couldn't think of anything better."
No, don't be silly, he's not throwing compliments.
He continues, "If you would have said, what one player—and I'll get killed over this—what one player would you like to see on the Lakers? Ron Artest."
Actually, wouldn't that be Shaq? Imagine the Kobe/Shaq feud all over again. Delicious.
So it sounds like he's saying what everyone else has been saying, except, as the Dallas Maverick's owner, he's very grateful to the Lakers for signing Ron.
"Could you imagine? Ron Artest has got the ball, and Kobe's standing there, 'Throw me the ball.' Thank you, Ron Artest."
Hmmm, sounds like a possibility, I guess. But just remember, the Mavericks' road opener is against the Lakers on Oct. 30. Who's going to be thankful then?
So, do you think Mark Cuban is right in assuming that Ron Artest will destroy the Lakers' team chemistry or should he just focus on being the owner of the Mavericks and shut up and keep his thoughts to himself?
(Btw, since there really isn't any Laker related news besides LO's marriage, Ron-Ron's acclimation onto the team, Kobe's contract extensions, the PG Situation, Fish's getting older, Laker's chances of repeating, Sasha's haircut, Jordan Farmar guest starring on Numbers again, Pau's legs after the Eurochip, Phil possibly missing the first Anaheim preseason game against the Warriors, Reggie Miller thinks the Lakers will challenge the 72 win Bulls record but will lose to Boston in the Finals, Drew's knee brace and less time with Kareem, and trying to get AMMO to shave on his stupid pornstache.
So, let's have fun making fun of Cuban or agreeing with him, because let's face it, there is legit reason for Laker fans to be worried about Ron. Or we can spend the rest of the weekend counting down until til I go to London or when preseason starts.)

It's comical to me.
Last season, Ron Artest was supposedly the reason the Rockets, led by continual playoff failures in Yao and T-Mac, were going to challenge the Lakers and win the West. He was great in the series against Houston. But now that he’s a LAKER, he’s going to be the cause of their demise? Huh? He’s good enough to beat the team that went on be become Champs, but he’s bad enough now to cause them to lose it?
Right. Cuban is just hoping because that’s all he can do. Plus, he has to give his fans hope. He is a competing owner. How’s he going to sell tickets if they think they have no shot. Let him talk all he wants. I like it.

Time for Zaig to chime in!
Analysts are morons who HAVE to say random crap to keep their shows/articles/etc
Cuban is just an owner that thinks his money entitles him to be an analyst.
Honestly… how great would it be if after a game an analyst just said. “This game means nothing, both teams player normal games with normal variance in their shooting, passing, defense, etc.”

I agree.
It’s all part of the biz. Like certain blogger’s who play yo-yo with over reactive fan bases. Like “slighting” Kobe, or saying CP3 is much better than Deron Williams (even though Deron owns him and his teams are always better).
Just look at the corny story lines ESPN/ABC rams down our throats. Just when I thought the played out Kobe vs. Shaq thing was dead. We’ll get aother f’n year of it because it’s part of Kobe vs. LBJ now.

Thank you...........hugs.
“or saying CP3 is much better than Deron Williams (even though Deron owns him and his teams are always better).”
I have been saying that for years. Unfortunately the stat guy in Utah actually does his job.

Yeah. I hate it when I hear commentslike "it's not even close."
Really? Why, because P.E.R.says so?
It’s like the Kobe vs. LBJ debate. If people think LBJ, they have valid points, but when they say it’s not close, that is just absurd. For either argument.
You’re right. Is assist totals the only thing he has over Deron? Williams has had the better career (in my eyes) so far.

I always think when they say "he makes his teammates better"
What they are really saying is “your teammates suck” and therefor your stats will be inflated. Which is why his teams always underachieve. Think Kobe circa 2006. If Deron wanted to fill up stat sheets I assure you he could, but he doesn’t need to in Utah.

Actually
Only your raw stats go up when your teammates suck. Your efficiency (important stats) tend to go down.
Points/Assists/Rebounds/Etc are all fairly useless and archaic stats that for some reason still get way too much mention. Stand alone they are silly.
24ppg = okay… cool, so what?

The assists ZOMG
Which are still better than Deron’s even if you scale them.
Paul also stays healthy a lot better than Deron.
Paul also leads the NBA in assists if you ONLY count his road games. (With the road stat keepers!)
Paul is also the first PG since Magic to average as many points on such awesome shooting and so on and so forth.
And I wasn’t trying to play stupid at all. You are simply pigeonholing ONE of the various stats out there and trying to completely discredit a player with that one stat, despite the fact that Deron would also be hurt in that category without him stat keepers.

Since when was Mavs a contender?
Other than the year when they got first seed (And lost to GSW in one of the most epic upsets in NBA history), since when was the Mavs a factor in the playoff picture?
Mavs is just one of those teams that can’t win chips. They’re always the best man, never the groom.

Yeah it's weird...
I live in a city where people can get together without asking their city for money and then starting a riot.
We also have the college feel here. In a college town people get stoked about their school because it’s what there is. In a city like L.A. there are so many sports teams that person A doesn’t care about team B and person C forgets that team H exists. No unity. Portland is basically a college town in that regard. Everyone knows what is going on with the Blazers, even non sports fans. Just like how everyone from a college town can tell you if their team won on Saturday.
I find it interesting that you repeatedly discuss this like it’s a bad thing. I mean, you’d think living in a city where the residents are united for something… anything… would be a good thing?
And I can take the MAX and be in Portland in 5 mins. No route planning there!

You two are both being ridiculous ... again
Zaig – if you can’t handle such a relatively innocent pot shot as “He thinks his team will win a championship”, I really don’t know what to tell you and I don’t understand what you get out of coming here (or to any other rival site). Whether it’s true or not doesn’t even matter because it was clearly meant to be light-hearted. You of all people know how much meaner PS can be if he’s trying to be unfriendly. This was clearly a joke, and a friendly one at that, and even when that was pointed out, you continued to take offense. I’m

Troll
“One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. ’you’re nothing but a fanboy’ is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue.”
I don’t think I ever did trolled :-)
1. Usually self mutilation was why I posted here
2. I always listen to the arguments of others, and agree with them oftentimes. Oftentimes I do disagree with them though.
3. Ad Hom attacks come from the other side too, don’t see anyone calling PS a troll :-)
4. I ALWAYS have substance to back up my arguments. You may not agree with my substance, but it’s always there.
That said, C.A. is the best SBN Mod I’ve seen since he actually allows dissenting opinion and actual discussion and doesn’t whip out the ban stick when it gets a little heated.

Which is why none of you are in danger of being banned as things stand now
If we were to stomp out all ribbing, we’d probably lose half our audience and be left with nothing but straight analysis and fluff. That’s not cool. If we cut out only anti-Laker ribbing, we’re the hypocrites that everybody always complains about.
The issue with it is when you (generic 2nd person, not specifcally you) either A) dominate the conversation with nothing but ribbing, thereby getting rid of all worthwhile conversation and deluding the quality of the site as a whole or B) rib “off-topic” which is when you leave the arena of the present conversation in order to bring in a topic that you can use to rib with. I’ve seen you (specifically this time) do both, and have also seen others do it to you. That is what I’d prefer stop.
In the case of what I quoted, you actually did bring in something sort of off-topic, although it could have been a mistake. PS said
Probably just busy planning his route to the Blazers championship parade.which was a dig at your personal belief that the Blazers will win the title this year, not a dig at your city and its fans for their playoff rally. I’m sure he has taken a run at the playoff rally subject in the past, but not this time. In this case, you were the one who brought in insults to the entire city and its fanbase.
And while I understand the sentiment behind responding to ribbing with ribbing, the problem is that the longer it goes, the less likely it will stay light and fun. The response is always trying to one up the previous comment, and eventually it will get nasty if not unchecked.

Funny how you ALWAYS use ME in your examples..............
but can never find any instance of ME doing any of those things. Why don’t you try calling out someone that actually does the “fanboy” thing?
Waiting…..

settle down...............
who said part 1 was over. I was just getting warmed up.
Besides we are getting close to the part when the reality of the Lakers kicking ass starts to over take the hypothetical reality when the Blazers matter.
Ahhhh, the delusional bliss of the off-season is almost over.

But they'll hold onto their dream until the Playoffs.
So, we have a ways to go….
On 2nd thought, Andre Miller is their PG. He’s gotta good for 5-10 more losses.

No, no, no....
He is the 6th best PG in the league!! Just ask Timbo.
But don’t ask anyone else.

Mark Cuban is a disgrace to statistics
1. Lebron James
2. Jason Kidd
Oooooookay
Poster for next year? I'm thinking My Little Pony.

I couldn't care less about what Cuban has to say
The only thing i’m interested in seeing is a repeat of this next year with the mayor saying ’NBA champs in 5 of the last 10 years"

That has a nice sound to it
“NBA Champs in 5 of the last 10 years”.

It most certainly does
especially if we get it over either the Celtics or Cavs.
I would pay money to see the look on Shaq and Lebrons’ faces when they see Kobe hoisting his 5th championship trophy along with another finals MVP to top it off.

thats a hard one between the celts and cavs...
i would love to see pp and kg when they lose to the lakers, but the look on shaq and bron would also be priceless.
i would take either one.

You wouldn't get to see their faces.......
They would be in the locker room tweeting and not shaking hands.

Good one.
PS,
Maybe you should post another “Getting to know ya” post since the season (preseason included) is about to start.

I was thinking maybe a "roll call" post, see who is here, maybe a demographic poll or something....
What do you think.

had to do a double take
on “demographic poll”. On first look I thought it was “pornographic poll”

A very much needed vacation after graduating from college!
Lakers 2009 Road to Redemption: TREVOR, DEREK, LAMAR, PAU & KOBE.
Play the game of which Lakers reminds you of: TA - TI, Shannon Brown - Chris Brown, Pau Gasol - Jesus, Machine - Luis Scola/Russell Brand, PJ with mustache and beard - Colonel Sanders.

heh heh, neat
By the way—and you may have answered this already and I missed it—who is TI in your matchup of TA = TI?
by BrianTung on Oct 22, 2009 9:34 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
TI, Rubberband man
He’s a rapper from Atlanta. He’s known for a couple songs like “Big Things Poppin,” “Whatever You Like,” “Dead and Gone,” “Live Your Life,” “Swagga like Us,” etc. He does collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Rhianna and Jay-Z a lot. I think he’s in jail right now :/
His album, Paper Trail, did pretty well in 2007-2008.
Oh yeah and he also has this alter ego called TIP. His real name is Clifford, go figure.

“If you would have said, what one player—and I’ll get killed over this—what one player would you like to see on the Lakers?”
Answer: Kwame Brown, truly dark times.
In Kobe we trust!

Reggie Miller isn't terribly smart
If a team challenges the 72 win Bulls you simply CANNOT say they will lose to a given team… unless of course matchups between the teams have been crazy one sided, but guess what. Both teams have changed significantly in the off-season so Miller has no way of knowing if the matchups will favor the Celtics.
Reggie being Reggie. (At least he’s not Barkley or… Smith? Is that the other TNT moron?)

thats what i say
i just cant really believe a tream wins 72 games and loses in the finals. im sure it can happen but the chances are very slim ( i would think)
